Ethereum Foundation-linked Wallet Sends $3M in ETH to Exchange, Another Sell Off?

0

A wallet associated with the Ethereum Foundation has transferred $3.03 million in ETH to Bitstamp, fueling speculation about a potential sell-off.

Recent blockchain activity linking to the Ethereum Foundation has drawn further attention after a large transfer of 1,250 ETH, worth approximately $3.03 million, was made to the Bitstamp exchange.

This transaction, which occurred just a day ago, has sparked discussions within the crypto community. According to Akharm Intelligence, this address was originally funded by the Ethereum Foundation, receiving 51,251 ETH from the organization nine years ago. At the time, the value of the funds stood at $51.2K, which has since appreciated to an estimated $124.5 million.

Akharm’s data highlighted the ongoing activity from this address, suggesting further movement of significant Ethereum funds. Just two weeks ago, the same address sent 20 ETH worth $52,330 to a Kraken deposit.

Meanwhile, in the past two months, the wallet transferred a total of 1,210 ETH, split between several transactions to Bitstamp.

This included a transfer of 1,000 ETH worth approximately $2.61 million and another 200 ETH valued at $521,380. To close the period, another 10 ETH was transferred to Bitstamp.

Significant ETH Activity Continue

The timing of these movements aligns with the recent activities of some Ethereum ICO participants who have been steadily offloading their ETH holdings.

For instance, an individual who originally received 150,000 ETH during Ethereum’s Genesis block event began selling off portions of their holdings on September 22.

Since then, they have sold 45,000 ETH for a total of $113.2 million at an average price of $2,516 per ETH. This whale continued to sell, offloading another 19,000 ETH on October 3 for approximately $47.54 million.

Speculation Surrounds Foundation’s Intentions

The Ethereum Foundation’s decision to move large quantities of ETH to centralized exchanges has led to mounting speculation about its plans. While no official announcements have been made, many observers believe these actions indicate a potential sell-off.

In response to the latest movement linked to the Ethereum Foundation’s wallet movements, one commenter expressed fascination with the significant appreciation of the holdings. They marveled at how an initial $51.2K worth of ETH has grown to an impressive $124.5 million.

Another commenter speculated that the Ethereum Foundation might have been compromised by what they described as the “anti-crypto Kamala state,” fueling further debate in the community.

Ancient Bitcoin Whales ‘Still Sleeping’ with No Massive Flows to Exchanges Yet: CryptoQuant Analysis

0

A recent analysis by CryptoQuant founder Ki Young Ju suggests that ancient Bitcoin whales—those holding BTC for over seven years—continue to hold their assets unmoved.

According to him, these long-term investors are still “sleeping.” He highlighted that these dormant holders have historically had a significant influence on market volatility when they decide to move their Bitcoin, especially depending on whether the transfers are made to exchanges or private wallets.

Ki Young Ju’s data excludes outliers like Mt. Gox. It focused on genuine long-term holders who possess substantial amounts of Bitcoin. He noted that no significant deposits have been made by these whales to exchanges recently, indicating they may be waiting for more favorable market conditions.

Historical Trend of Ancient Bitcoin Whales

The historical charts accompanying the update illustrate how the movements of these early Bitcoin adopters have coincided with the asset’s all-time rallies in the last two market cycles.

For instance, in late 2017, when Bitcoin traded around its cycle peak of $20K, the activity of ancient Bitcoin holders mirrored this trend as it was also at its zenith. A similar trend unfolded in mid-2021 and late 2021.

However, in the current cycle, the trend has remained mostly flat and incomparable. Despite Bitcoin reaching an all-time high in March, the activity of long-dormant Bitcoin whales did not fully reflect the excitement of the crypto market in the first quarter of 2024.

Image

Similarly, Bitcoin flows to exchanges from these dormant whales have not been notable since Q4 2023, when this cycle’s bull trend gained momentum. In contrast, their flows to exchanges during Bitcoin’s peak rallies of 2017/2018 and 2020/2021 are clearly evident.

Image

Is the Market Still Bullish?

Ki Young Ju has drawn attention to this data during a time of uncertainty. Market participants are divided on whether the market remains bullish or if the bear season has already begun. Bitcoin has shown unimpressive performance over the past seven months since its all-time high.

Essentially, Ki Young Ju seeks to highlight that, as most dormant whale wallets remain inactive, the Bitcoin market still has promising prospects for a fresh all-time high.

Meanwhile, as The Crypto Basic reported earlier, a reliable market indicator has suggested that the market may have likely reached a cycle peak in March, as Bitcoin’s Sharpe Ratio at the time aligned with the peaks of 2017 and 2021.

Small Ancient Bitcoin Wallets Becoming Active

It is worth noting that some dormant Bitcoin investors have become increasingly active in recent months. In October alone, Whale Alert documented five Bitcoin addresses that were reactivated, moving out millions of dollars in assets.

According to the report, all the reactivated whales were last active at least 10.7 years ago. The most recent reawakening occurred today, with a whale moving out 121 BTC, now worth $7.53 million, originally worth $126, precisely 13.7 years ago.

Van de Poppe Compares Bitcoin Current Phase to 2015: Here’s What He Expects Next

0

Bitcoin remains steady at $62K as a veteran analyst compares the current consolidation phase to the 2015 phase.

Bitcoin’s price has shown minimal movement in the past 24 hours, staying near the $62,000 mark. Market conditions also remain neutral, with little change observed since yesterday. The ongoing consolidation phase has triggered discussions among analysts, drawing parallels to historical patterns in the crypto’s price behavior.

Current Market vs. 2015’s Breakout

Michael van de Poppe, a renowned market veteran, pointed out similarities between Bitcoin’s current market activity and the 2015 breakout. According to van de Poppe, Bitcoin has spent over 200 days consolidating within a narrow range, much like the 8-month period that preceded a breakout in 2015.

His observation is that prolonged consolidation phases tend to result in massive breakouts. During such periods, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) often hovers around neutral levels, indicating a lack of strong market momentum. His chart places Bitcoin’s RSI between 50-55, which shows the ongoing consolidation rather than a clear bullish or bearish trend.

Historical Cycles and Future Predictions

Notably, Brandt, another veteran analyst, holds similar sentiments, recently highlighting the post-halving period as an important phase for Bitcoin’s price growth. Brandt emphasized that, historically, substantial gains have followed the second half of the halving cycle. He projected that Bitcoin could reach $135,000 by August or September 2025.

However, Brandt also noted that a close below $48,000 would invalidate his analysis, signaling caution despite the otherwise optimistic outlook. This aligns with his observations that the recent pause since March 2024 might be a temporary break in an ongoing upward trend.

Whale Activity Signals Market Shift

Meanwhile, whale activity within the Bitcoin market is experiencing notable changes, according to Crypto Rover. His data, derived from CryptoQuant, shows a shift in realized market capitalization from older, established whales to newer market participants.

This change has been gaining momentum since mid-2023 and represents a significant alteration in Bitcoin’s ecosystem. The recent influx of new capital, particularly from newer whales, could indicate the start of a new phase in Bitcoin’s price cycle.

US Presidential Election Outcome Will Push Bitcoin to Either $90,000 or $30,000: Bernstein

0

Analysts at Berstein have asserted that the outcome of the November presidential election will have short-term implications on the price of Bitcoin.

Bitcoin to Surge to New Highs If Trump Wins

In a recent report, Bernstein reiterated that Bitcoin would surge to a new all-time high if the Republican nominee, Donald Trump, becomes the next US president. Researchers at the brokerage firm expect the premier asset to break its current high of $73,949 and target the range between $80,000 and $90,000.

Bernstein analysts Guatam Chhugani, Mahika Sapra, and Sanskar Chindalia based their assertions on Trump’s warmer embrace of digital assets. Notably, Trump has repeatedly reinforced his friendly disposition towards the crypto sector.

In September, Trump became the first US president to pay in Bitcoin after he used the Lightening Network to buy burgers in PubKey, New York. He noted on one occasion that Bitcoin has a great future, and he intends for the US to lead the adoption of the nascent sector.

Notably, Bernstein’s call of an impending price surge if Trump won was not alone. Standard Chartered’s Geoff Kendrick predicted that Bitcoin will surge to $150,000 if the Republican candidate wins and $200,000 by 2025, regardless of who won the election.

Harris’ Win a Catalyst to $30,000

The researchers maintained that Harris’s win will push Bitcoin toward the lows last seen after the FTX implosion in 2022. Per the report, the largest crypto asset will fall over 50% from its current price of $62,342 to $30,000.

Notably, Bernstein’s assertions came despite Harris’ increased bias towards the crypto industry. SkyBridge’s managing partner, Anthony Scaramucci, stated that he is working with the Vice President’s camp and has made significant progress in their adopting digital assets.

Election Odds to Drive Bitcoin Price

Meanwhile, Berstein’s research has implied that the imminent November election odds will drive Bitcoin’s price bias. According to them, Bitcoin will appreciate if the odds largely tick in favor of Trump winning the election and resort to a range-bound movement if the chances become closely tied.

Notably, data from the decentralized marketplace Polymarket shows that Trump leads the poll prediction by 7.3%. The platform shows that the chances of the former president winning the November election stand at 53.4%, while that of Harris is 46.1%.

However, Bernstein predicted a different price pattern for altcoins. The firm noted that other crypto assets besides Bitcoin will remain range-bound until after the November election.

The analysts noted that altcoins will see decisive price action when the issue around the Securities and Exchange Commission chair and regulatory aides in the new government is settled. They argued that this is because regulatory unclarity was the major stumbling block to a thriving digital asset sector in the US.

Notably, another analyst shared a similar sentiment but with a different narrative, particularly about XRP. Charting Guy stated that the XRPL native token will continue to range between $0.43 and $0.67 until Bitcoin makes its next notable break to price discovery.

VanEck Launches New Crypto Fund to Support Early-Stage Crypto Projects

0

VanEck launches new crypto fund focused to invest in founders innovating at the intersection of crypto, fintech, and artificial intelligence (AI).

The fund, dubbed VanEck Ventures, is the company’s latest move toward expanding into the early-stage venture ecosystem.

According to the announcement, the company has allocated $30 million to the new fund to invest in early-stage founders operating at the intersection of fintech, crypto, and AI.

Former Circle Ventures Execs to Lead VanEck New Fund

Notably, the fund will be led by former Circle Ventures executives Juan Lopez and Wyatt Lonergan. These former executives spearheaded the company’s investments in more than 100 early-stage projects.

With their selection as leaders of VanEck Ventures, VanEck hopes to replicate a similar feat and invest in multiple early-stage companies through its $30 million fund.

VanEck to Invest in 35 Early-Stage Projects

Through the newly created fund, VanEck aims to invest around $1 million each in 25 to 35 early-stage projects over the next few years.

“Our investment philosophy is clear: We’re infrastructure-agnostic and investing in exceptional teams defining the application layer in their respective categories,” VanEck remarked.

Additionally, VanEck specified that its investment will cut across diverse sectors, including on-chain payment systems, stablecoin-based applications, tokenized assets, and marketplaces.

In the meantime, the asset manager has already made four investments. It promised to share more details about its latest investments soon.

VanEck to Reinvigorate Crypto Landscape By Supporting Development of Utility Projects

The newly created fund is VanEck’s effort to bolster the development of crypto-related products that deliver real value to users. In a statement today, the asset manager said the crypto industry is currently at a crossroads, with many people focused on token launches and infrastructure investments.

Per VanEck, several venture capitalists (VCs) are chasing short-term gains through token unlocks, leading to a lack of accountability, conviction, and commitment.

Despite the regulatory hurdles and shaky sentiment in the industry, VanEck remains confident about crypto’s prospects, emphasizing that the technology would transform the global financial system and beyond.

The company supported this belief by launching VanEck Ventures to fund the development of utility projects, building trusts and delivering real value to users.

Standard Chartered Exec Says Solana Will Surge Fivefold, Outperform Bitcoin and Ethereum, if This Happens

0

Geoff Kendrick, the head of digital asset research at Standard Chartered, believes Solana will surge fivefold if Donald Trump wins the November US presidential elections.

In a recent interview, Kendrick predicted the prices of major crypto assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. He particularly emphasized on Solana’s performance, stating factors that could spur a 500% uptick in its price by the end of next year.

Among other factors, Kendrick stated that the US presidential election will largely determine Solana’s price in the coming months. The market analyst gave different price predictions for the fifth-largest crypto asset if Donald Trump or Democrat nominee Kamala Harris wins.

Solana to Surge 500% if Trump Wins

The Standard Chartered executive asserted that Solana would outperform Bitcoin and Ethereum, surging five times by the end of 2025. A rally of this magnitude could push SOL from its current market price of $142.6 to $855.6.

Kendrick based his assertions on a more favorable environment for the Solana ecosystem under the Trump administration. He expects Trump’s apparent pro-crypto stance to facilitate the approval of the Solana spot exchange-traded fund (ETF), driving the asset’s price higher.

Furthermore, the executive stated that on-chain metrics show that Solana has more glaring potential than Ethereum. Kendrick cited that Solana has a higher market cap-to-fee proportion than Ethereum, with the former valued at 250x and the latter at 121x.

Moreover, Kendrick stated that Solana is expected to increase its throughput by 10,000% to 40,000% in the future. He said fully incorporating Firedancer into the Solana network would significantly boost transactions per second and impact its overall throughput.

Notably, Kendrick also forecasted the prices of Bitcoin and Ethereum by 2025 if Trump wins. The market expert asserted that the largest and second-largest crypto assets by market will appreciate 200% and 400%, respectively.

Bitcoin, Ethereum to Outperform Solana if Harris Wins

Conversely, Kendrick stated Solana will underperform compared to Bitcoin and Ethereum if Harris wins. Solana’s underperformance would be due to increased odds that an ETF tied to the asset may not be approved. Notably, Bloomberg’s analyst James Seyffart shares a similar view, as disclosed in an earlier report.

Nevertheless, the Standard Chartered executive expects Bitcoin to thrive, stating it would trade at $200,000 by the end of 2025, regardless of who wins in November. Also, Kendrick asserted that Bitcoin would outperform Ethereum, predicting that the king altcoin would trade at $7,000 if Harris won.

Meanwhile, Kendrick’s price speculation, which depends on the November election, coincides with analysis from other market speculators. For instance, researchers at Bernstein asserted that Bitcoin will surge to $90,000 before the end of the year if Trump wins and fall to $30,000 if Harris wins.

Brandt Shares His Bitcoin Macro Picture, Targeting $135K as Cycle Top

0

Market veteran Peter Brandt has shared his perspective on Bitcoin long-term outlook, sharing his top target for the premier crypto asset.

Brandt’s analysis comes at a time when Bitcoin is facing uncertainty, as it battles to maintain the STH cost basis, as discussed by Glassnode. The report draws attention to Bitcoin’s historical price patterns, particularly after the halving cycles.

Bitcoin’s Macro Picture

In an accompanying chart, he showed Bitcoin’s price behavior during halving cycles, which have triggered substantial price gains. As the chart revealed, Bitcoin’s price surged after each halving event. Brandt emphasized that the most significant gains usually come in the latter half of each halving cycle.

Bitcoin Macro Picture Peter Brandt
Bitcoin Macro Picture | Peter Brandt

The chart marks three previous halving events, each followed by notable upward trends in Bitcoin’s price. Brandt believes that the period after the latest halving, which occurred in April 2024, is a brief pause rather than a deviation from the overall bullish trend.

For context, in all its having cycle history, Bitcoin had not clinched a new all-time high before the halving during a bull market. This occurred in the ongoing cycle, which BTC clinching a new ATH above $73K in March.

The new trend has led to speculation that the current market cycle might be different from others, with Bitcoin unable to record more bullishness after the halving. Previously, Brandt also had the opinion that BTC might not see higher prices this cycle.

Now, with a renewed perspective, he expects Bitcoin to follow its historical pattern and resume a strong upward trajectory. His analysis sets a clear price target of $135,000 for Bitcoin, projected to be reached around August or September 2025.

Brandt’s chart suggests that this target is in line with previous post-halving cycle price gains, where Bitcoin reached new all-time highs after each halving.

However, he also called attention to an important level of support. Brandt warned that a price drop below $48,000 would invalidate his bullish outlook, signaling a potential trend reversal and negating his target of $135,000. BTC currently trades for $61,747, down 2% this month.

Bitcoin vs. Gold

In a subsequent chart, Brandt compared Bitcoin to gold, measuring their relative value through the BTC/Gold (XAU) ratio. According to the analyst, Bitcoin has outperformed gold in recent years.

Brandt noted that Bitcoin has encountered resistance at 32 ounces (oz). This occurred in March amid Bitcoin’s rally to the $73K all-time high. Since then, BTC has dropped against gold, with the price sitting at 23.69 XAU.

According to Brandt, Bitcoin now relies on support in the high teens. Interestingly, the analyst suggests that Bitcoin could see a new all-time high target of over 100 oz in the foreseeable future. This outlook aligns with his macro picture for BTC, which sees greater gains.

However, Brandt is cautious, applying Bayesian analysis to suggest a 30% probability that Bitcoin’s recent performance against gold might indicate a market top. This suggests Bitcoin is still capable of losing some ground to gold if the market begins to roll over.

Dormant Bitcoin Re-enters Market, Triggers On-Chain Volume to Hit 7-Month High of $37.4 Billion

0

Bitcoin’s network saw a notable surge in activity, driven by increased on-chain transaction volume and dormant Bitcoin re-entering circulation.

This development, highlighted by recent data from Santiment, suggests a shift in the behavior of long-term holders. According to the market intelligence platform, the movement of stagnant Bitcoin has historically signaled future price growth.

As more dormant BTC moves back into circulation, the market anticipates potential upward momentum for the crypto.

Bitcoin On-Chain Volume Hits 7-Month

The chart shared by Santiment focuses on two primary metrics: on-chain transaction volume and the “Age Consumed” metric, which measures how much dormant Bitcoin is being moved. On Tuesday, Bitcoin’s on-chain transaction volume saw a significant spike, totaling $37.4 billion, marking the highest daily volume since March 12, 2024.

Image

Age Consumed Metric

A key element in the network’s recent activity is the “Age Consumed” metric. This metric tracks older Bitcoin that has remained inactive for an extended period but is now being moved. On Tuesday, this metric showed a dramatic increase, indicating that a substantial portion of the $37.4 billion in transaction volume came from previously inactive BTC being transferred.

Santiment’s data points to a whale transaction involving the withdrawal of 250 BTC, valued at $15.7 million, from Binance. This transaction contributes to the overall surge in on-chain volume, as the whale had previously stashed 10,158 BTC tokens at an average cost of $67K in March and April 2024.

Growing Adoption Reflected in New Addresses

Alongside the surge in on-chain volume, data from IntoTheBlock shows a notable increase in new Bitcoin addresses. Over the past week, new addresses have grown by 11.54%, with 325.87k new addresses recorded for the week ending October 7, 2024.

This uptick reflects growing interest in Bitcoin and suggests a potential expansion of the user base. Historically, spikes in new addresses have been correlated with rising Bitcoin prices, as seen during the major bull runs of 2017 and 2020-2021.

XRP Final Shakeout: Analyst Forecasts Likely 57,155% Surge to $305

While XRP continues to hover around the $0.50 price region, market observers speculate that this current position may be the final shakeout before XRP stages a historic comeback reminiscent of events from seven years ago.

Analyst Helkin Ashi, known as “LUDXRPFLR” on X, highlighted this likely scenario in a recent examination of XRP’s historical patterns. He emphasized that XRP has a history of recurring patterns.

He shared a chart illustrating that the historical price movements of XRP over the last decade have consistently mirrored previous candlestick formations, guiding price forecasts for the asset.

XRP Historical Rhyming Patterns

For instance, after XRP registered a peak in December 2013, it experienced a prolonged bearish phase that erased all previous gains until mid-2014, when it hit bottom. Following that, XRP rallied significantly by early 2015, although the trajectory was below the peak in 2013.

A downtrend occurred again after 2015, but this time, it was more prolonged, lasting until the first quarter of 2017. Given the longer consolidation phase, XRP’s breakout during this period was more intense, rising from around $0.0055 in early 2017 to $3.84 in early 2018. This marks an approximate 70,000% increase within a year.

Again, XRP’s price regressed after these historic gains. Interestingly, the consolidation pattern that followed in 2018 mirrored the trajectories it experienced after the post-2013 peak. Accordingly, XRP broke out after hitting a bottom in 2020 and rallied significantly again into 2021.

The 2021 run, however, was below that of 2018 before a downtrend commenced, similar to how the 2015 uptrend was below its earlier peak. The ongoing consolidation post-2021 is also more extensive, akin to the post-2015 peak. Currently, XRP is at a breaking point from this pattern.

XRP historical Chart by Helkin Ashi

XRP Price Outlooks if History Holds

Given XRP’s consistent adherence to historical trends, analysts like Helkin Ashi believe that the breakout from this longer consolidation will be similarly intense to what was observed in 2017/2018.

Ashi theorized a scenario in which XRP follows a similar uptrend to that last cycle, projecting a rally that could drive XRP far beyond $16 at its mid-term peak. However, in a previous analysis, he noted that the full-scale uptrend for XRP this time could see the asset reaching as high as $305.

As a result, the analyst considers XRP’s current low as potentially the last shakeout before it embarks on this astronomical surge.

Notably, from XRP’s present value of $0.5327, reaching $305 would represent a growth of approximately 57,155%.

Peter Todd Denies Being Bitcoin Creator Satoshi Nakamoto

0

Canadian programmer Peter Todd denies being Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin (BTC).

“I’m not Satoshi,” Todd tweeted yesterday, hours after a documentary from HBO alleged that he created the world’s largest cryptocurrency.

While debates about Nakamoto’s real identity have cooled off, HBO recently triggered discussion around the subject yesterday following the release of its highly anticipated documentary titled “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery.”

HBO Identifies Todd as Nakamoto

The documentary, which has a runtime of 1 hour and 40 minutes, was directed by popular filmmaker Cullen Hoback. In it, Hoback identified Todd as the creator of the premier crypto asset.

The filmmaker’s assertion was unexpected. Todd’s name was not even on the list of individuals Polymarket bettors expected to be named Nakamoto. Notably, Todd was only 23 years old when the Bitcoin whitepaper was published in 2008.

Although Todd contributed immensely to the early development of Bitcoin, no one expected he would be identified as Nakamoto in the HBO documentary.

Nonetheless, Hoback asserted that Todd was Nakamoto. The filmmaker reached the conclusion following a three-year investigation that involved interviewing early Bitcoin contributors and analyzing some ancient BTC-related messages.

Alleged Evidence

Interestingly, Hoback provided several pieces of evidence in the documentary to corroborate his claim that Todd was Satoshi Nakamoto. One piece of evidence featured a discussion between Todd and Nakamoto in a Bitcoin forum, Bitcointalk, in 2010.

According to Hoback, the message seemed like Todd was completing the Bitcoin creator’s line of reasoning, suggesting that the former may have accidentally completed the post using his main account.

Following this “mistake,” both Nakamoto and Todd’s accounts stopped posting on the forum. The filmmaker noted that both Nakamoto and Todd used British/Canadian spellings while writing.

Interestingly, Todd implemented the “replace by fee” feature on the Bitcoin network. This feature was discussed during their conversation on Bitcointalk.

Notably, HBO claims that Todd implemented the replace-by-fee feature using the pseudonym “John Dillion,” making it seem like a different person implemented it.

Another piece of evidence Hoback cited was Nakamoto’s posting schedule on Bitcointalk, which shows he was more active on weekends. This schedule aligns with a student’s timeline, where weekends are usually considered to be free days.

Despite these claims, Todd publicly denied he was Nakamoto. He made the comment after an X user asked him to stop making sarcastic comments about the claim.

Mystery Behind Bitcoin’s Creator

Launched in 2009, Bitcoin remains one of the greatest tech innovations in the world. Since its introduction, it has grown to a market cap of $1.22 trillion, with one BTC currently priced at $62,027.

Given Bitcoin’s remarkable success over the years, crypto enthusiasts have been eager to know the real identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of BTC.

Some crypto stakeholders, like Australian computer scientist Craig Wright, have claimed to be among the team that created Bitcoin. On the other hand, others, like Ripple CTO David Schwartz, have been alleged to be Nakamoto.
