IIA Asks Congress to Enact Proper Governance Policies For US Crypto Firms

0

The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) calls on the U.S. Congress to enact proper corporate governance policies for United States-based crypto firms following the FTX fiasco.

The leading agency in international internal audit guidelines, the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), has penned a letter to the U.S. Congress, calling for enacting appropriate policies to strengthen corporate governance within cryptocurrency firms. This request follows the recent FTX implosion, which has exposed the need for proper corporate governance policies within crypto-focused entities.

The letter was addressed to the United States House Committee on Financial Services; the United States Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; and the United States House Committee on Agriculture; according to an official press release Monday. The IIA highlighted the FTX collapse, as it sought to expose the risks to consumers when any firm lacks proper corporate governance.

Contents from the letter suggest that the IIA is making demands to Congress regarding two corporate governance policies that should help mitigate risks of a similar case to the FTX debacle, concurrently protecting consumers and stakeholders. These demands are:

  • Congress should demand all U.S.-based crypto entities and their partners have proper auditing functions that satisfy all industry-grade requirements.
  • All U.S.-based crypto firms should also be obliged to provide annual certifications of adequacy in their internal control, with an assessment carried out by an external, independent auditing entity.

IIA President and Chief Anthony Pugliese noted that FTX was not demanded by law to comply with some stipulations enshrined within the Sarbanes–Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) due to its status as a private firm. SOX was initially published on July 30, 2002, by the U.S. Congress to stipulate some requirements from corporations in terms of recording and reporting their finances. This was aimed at protecting investors from fraudulent practices.

“Unfortunately, since most cryptocurrency exchanges are not subject to SOX compliance, consumers were denied basic organizational transparency and did not possess relevant information to assess investment risk,” Pugliese remarked.

Speaking further on the matter, Pugliese noted that the FTX fiasco shows that companies that are not involved in proper auditing practices are treading on dangerous grounds and putting themselves, their clients, and their stakeholders at risk.

Notwithstanding, several market watchers argue that FTX’s case was not a result of a deficiency in proper audits but a case of pure fraud. A report from The Crypto Basic highlighted claims that 8 U.S. House members attempted to stop an inquiry by the SEC into FTX’s activities in March.

“Countless investors are now paying the price for FTX’s failures. We cannot rely on unregulated crypto exchanges to do the right thing on their own – we need to mandate stronger corporate governance standards and ensure accountability when these exchanges aren’t protecting their customers,” he added.

According to Pugliese, these proposed measures should help improve investor confidence within the crypto space which has so far declined. The implosions of Terra, 3AC, and now, FTX have precipitated a wave of FUD which has impacted the crypto markets negatively, contributing to a market-wide slump.

Ripple CTO Pokes Holes At ChatGPT Arguments Alleging XRPL Is Not Truly Decentralized

0

Schwartz called out flaws in OpenAI chatbot ChatGPT arguments, alleging that the XRPL is not truly decentralized.

Ripple CTO David Schwartz, in a tweet today, has poked holes at arguments from OpenAI chatbot alleging that, unlike Bitcoin, the XRPL is not truly decentralized.

It came as Stefan Huber, a Twitter user, and potential XRP supporter, shared screenshots of a chat with the AI chatbot, where the chatbot argues that the XRPL is not fully decentralized. According to the chatbot, despite the XRPL’s decentralized consensus mechanism, Ripple can change the network operation without a validator vote.

“The specific technical details of how Ripple Labs can push through changes to the XRP ledger without reaching 80% consensus among the participants in the network are not publicly available,” ChatGPT wrote. “However, it is likely that Ripple Labs can make changes to the network using its administrative privileges, which are granted by the unique nature of the XRP ledger.”

In response, Schwartz suggested that the AI can also argue that Ripple has a secret way to make changes to the Bitcoin network, using the premise that it agrees both use a distributed ledger technology in other screenshots.

Schwartz was not the only one to swipe at the data used to train the chatbot, as Huber asserted, it was like arguing with a Bitcoin maximalist.

It is worth noting that OpenAI silently released the chatbot last week, sparking several conversations in the tech space. Notably, it does a good job of showing users what it is like to interact with a computer. However, as amazing as it is, as highlighted by a Mashable report, it also tends to be wrong. Notably, even OpenAI warns users that it may occasionally be wrong and produce biased content.

Despite this, the chatbot is in high demand. When The Crypto Basic tried to access the chatbot, OpenAI noted that it was experiencing “exceptionally high demand” and that they were working to scale its systems to meet the demand.

Ripple And XRP Are No Strangers To Controversy And Conspiracy Theories

It bears mentioning that Ripple and XRP are no strangers to controversy and conspiracy theories. As John E Deaton recently asserted, XRP remains one of the most misunderstood cryptocurrencies even after almost a decade.

At the beginning of the month, for the second time in months, Schwartz had to face claims of a private XRP Ledger trading XRP at a significantly higher price than the public ledger.

Meanwhile, at the end of November, Deaton had to debunk claims by Lark Davis that the value proposition of XRP was threatened by the fact that JP Morgan settled a cross-border payment with Polygon.

These are just a few examples of the narratives the XRP community continues to face.

EMURGO Launches Cardano Social Network to Connect ADA Enthusiasts

0

EMURGO Media’s first product is Cardano Spot, an interactive platform for investing, distributing, and monetizing Cardano-related content.

The official commercial arm of the Cardano blockchain EMURGO Group has launched a new business entity for the Cardano ecosystem.

According to a press release today, the newly-launched business entity, EMURGO Media, will create media-related services and products for Cardano. EMURGO selected Sebastian Zilliacus to lead the newly created entity, the announcement noted.

Notably, the vision of EMURGO Media is to create an opportunity for Cardano and ADA enthusiasts to link up and participate in activities that could inspire them to change the world together.

EMURGO Media’s First Product

Per the announcement, the first product of EMURGO Media is named Cardano Spot, a social and information-sharing network for the Cardano ecosystem. Cardano Spot is an interactive platform designed for the investment, consumption, distribution, and monetization of Cardano-related content.

“Cardano Spot’s platform solves the issue of fragmented content in the Cardano ecosystem by aggregating valuable, quality content from reliable sources in the Cardano ecosystem to give up-to-date developments in the Cardano ecosystem,” the press release noted.

Commenting on the development, Zilliacus said he has witnessed the passion of the ADA community and is excited to lead EMURGO Media to become an information bridge between Cardano ecosystem products and services and the growing community.

“With access to information and the ability to generate helpful content, we are putting power back into the hands of the individual user to play a meaningful role in growing Cardano to be an industry-leading decentralized blockchain platform,” Zilliacus added.

EMURGO Media could put to rest the challenges that Cardano has faced over the years regarding media coverage. Recall that Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson expressed disappointment with crypto media’s bias toward Cardano. Hoskinson noted in a tweet in May that he does not understand why the media and VCs love other altcoins and hate Cardano.

Hoskinson Slams Gemini for Not Listing ADA

Meanwhile, the development comes less than 24 hours after Hoskinson took a swipe at United States-based cryptocurrency exchange Gemini for refusing to list ADA, the native coin of Cardano. Yesterday, a Cardano Stake Pool Operator Rick McCracken asked Gemini why the exchange has refused to list ADA despite the trading platform supporting other proof-of-stake protocols.

“Why hasn’t @Gemini listed Cardano Ada yet @tyler & @cameron? Honest question. You have other proof of stake protocols,” McCracken said.

Reacting to the question, Hoskinson said Gemini not listing ADA “at this point” could be “tightly correlated” with the exchange’s bankruptcy risk.

“At this point, not listing ADA is pretty tightly correlated with bankruptcy and risky behavior,” the prominent crypto entrepreneur said.

Reuters reported over the weekend that Gemini is trying to recover its $900 million from Genesis crypto lender to avoid going bankrupt.

SaitaSwap Lists XRP, Says XRP is Its “Most Anticipated Listing”

0

Users can now trade XRP on SaitaSwap, as the DEX recently announced listing the asset.

UAE-based decentralized exchange (DEX) and non-custodial crypto wallet SaitaSwap has listed XRP, allowing users to trade the asset on the platform. The move comes when the legal tussle between Ripple and the SEC is nearing its terminus.

SaitaSwap disclosed the development through its official Twitter handle on Monday. According to the exchange, the XRP listing is one of its most anticipated listings, indicating a pattern of growing demand from clients.

“The most anticipated listing for SaitaSwap is live now.” SaitaSwap disclosed in a recent tweet.

According to the announcement, XRP trading is exclusively on the desktop version of the exchange, with support for the asset coming soon on the Android and iOS versions of the platform, dubbed Saita Pro. The development has unsurprisingly been received well by both the XRP community and SaitaSwap users.

Co-founder and Chief Finance Officer at Saitama, Manpreet Kohli echoed the disclosure as a means to bring the disclosure to a broader audience. In a recent tweet, Kohli highlighted the need to support large communities such as the XRPArmy, and to give them a safe platform.

Being a non-custodial platform, tokens on SaitaSwap are held with utmost confidence. Kohli further asserted that XRP’s value and utility would soon attract mass adoption from major financial institutions.

Launched in August, SaitaSwap has been on a relentless growing path. Barely a week following its launch, the platform saw $10M in staked assets by users, indicating a sharply-increasing adoption rate. As a means to expand its asset support, the exchange listed Bone ShibaSwap (BONE) in September, as previously reported.

The recent XRP listing is another move aimed at expanding its token support, and it comes at a time when the broader crypto markets are staging a comeback against the bears. XRP, in particular, has gained by 3.52% in the past week to trade at $0.3924 as of press time. All attempts to reclaim the $0.40 zone since December 1 have been met with a sharp rejection.

Standard Chartered Forecasts Further 70% Bitcoin Dip To $5K

0

Standard Chartered predicts a further 70% plunge for Bitcoin (BTC) to $5K in 2023 and a comeback from Gold.

London-headquartered multinational bank Standard Chartered has made some projections for 2023 regarding risk assets, including a further 70% downward price movement for the firstborn crypto Bitcoin and an imminent comeback from gold. According to Standard Chartered representatives, the prevalent Crypto Winter could further batter bitcoin to $5K in 2023.

Due to the unpropitious conditions surrounding the broader crypto markets due to the recent FTX collapse and the persistent macro atmosphere, Global Head of Research at Standard Chartered, Eric Robertson, is predicting a switch of attention and subsequent investor demand from BTC to gold, as recently reported by Bloomberg.

It bears mentioning that, despite the damaging effects of unfavorable macroeconomic conditions on gold, the age-old asset has shown more resilience than the firstborn crypto; this has led to a dip in the ratio of BTC to gold, plunging to its lowest point since 2020. Robertson’s assertions are partly hinged on this growing pattern.

Bitcoin has already sunk by over 65% against gold in the past year, dipping from 27.6 Gold Ounce (XAU) for one bitcoin in December of 2021 to the current value of 9.6 XAU as of press time. Furthermore, with a current value of $17,250, BTC is nearly 75% down from its ATH of $68K.

The Terra Collapse of May and the Three Arrows Capital fiasco dealt a huge blow to the asset’s price movements as investor confidence waned drastically. Bitcoin had since then been hanging on the support at $20k as it looked to make a comeback. Notwithstanding, the bears found strength in the most recent FTX collapse, battering the asset to lows below $16K. Several market watchers, however, have reason to believe that the bottom is already priced in, but uncertainties abound nonetheless.

“Our base case is that most forced selling is over, but investors might not be compensated for the market risk incurred in the immediate term,” Fundstart’s Head of Digital Asset Strategy Sean Farrell remarked last Friday as he spoke on the Winter. Farrell also highlighted the growing concerns surrounding Genesis and the Digital Currency Group.

Gold Could Leverage The Troubles in the Crypto Scene

On the other hand, Robertson asserted that a switch in investor interest from BTC could be leveraged by gold to stage a rally to $2,250 an ounce, marking a 25% increase from the current value of $1,795 as of press time.

“Gold will benefit going forward from the problems in crypto, with the sudden decline in confidence in the crypto ecosystem,” Sydney-based ABC Refinery’s Global Head of Institutional Markets Nicholas Frappell remarked. These assertions are prompted by concerns of further selloffs due to the FUD precipitating into the crypto scene of late.

Top Terra Classic Influencer Says LUNC More Likely To Reach $0.001

Top Terra Classic Influencer Gives Favorable LUNC Price Prediction.

A top LUNC influencer has high expectations for Terra Classic. Classy Crypto, a top LUNC influencer, has predicted that the token’s price will surge to $0.001. Classy Crypto did not specify the time and date he expects LUNC to surge to that price level.

He also told his followers that the tweet should not be taken as financial advice, as the prediction is his personal opinion.

“My own personal opinion on LUNC is… LUNC to $0.001. NFA [Not Financial Advice],” Classy Crypto tweeted.

Terra classic community is always pushing for a $1 LUNC price, But Classy says it is more likely that LUNC can revisit $0.001 rather than $1.

However, in our in-depth analysis, The Crypto Basic highlighted two factors that could contribute to LUNC’s journey to $1, which include real-world utility, and increased burns. The community is torn between which is of greater importance.

Efforts to Revive LUNC

Formerly referred to as LUNA, LUNC is currently a shadow of itself after the Terra ecosystem collapsed. LUNA surged to an all-time high of nearly $120 on April 5, 2022, before the fall of the Terra ecosystem. After the Terra network’s rebirth, the Do Kwon team made it clear that its focus is on the newly launched Terra tokens – LUNA and UST, abandoning Terra classic.

After it became clear that the Terra team had deserted the old tokens, Terra classic community members took it upon themselves to revive the values of LUNC and USTC via several initiatives.

Some of the efforts launched by the community include implementing a tax burn proposal for all Terra Classic on-chain transactions and other individual efforts to burn and reduce LUNC supply.

As of December 1, over 35 billion tokens have been incinerated from LUNC supply, with Binance responsible for most of the token’s burns. Earlier this month, Binance sent 6.3 billion LUNC worth $1 million to a dead wallet, bringing the exchange’s total LUNC burns to 20.1 billion.

As part of efforts to reduce LUNC total supply, the community has also staked 884.75 billion LUNC. It is worth noting that other projects are being used to accelerate LUNC burns.

TheCryptoBasic reported last month the launch of a casino capable of burning 26 billion LUNC tokens. Shortly after its launch, the casino burned its first 1 million LUNC.

Despite the number of LUNC incinerated, the cryptocurrency still has a circulating supply of 5.97 trillion, according to Coingecko data. In a report published recently, Tobias Andersen (Zaradar), a member of Terra Rebels, an independent development group, opined that the fastest way to reduce LUNC supply is to implement lower burn fees, re-enable swaps, and incentivize economic activities.

If the community can reduce LUNC supply, it is expected that more people will adopt cryptocurrency. It won’t be long before the asset’s price is boosted to $0.001, as predicted by Classy Crypto.

Meanwhile, LUNC is trading at $0.00017733, up 0.6% in the past 24 hours. The coin is also up 8.7% in the past week and 11.2% in the last two weeks.

XRP Price Outlook Following Final Submissions From Ripple And SEC

0

After experiencing a decline over the weekend, the leading altcoin (XRP) could experience a consolidation just below $0.40 this week.

At press time, XRP is trading at the $0.3938 price point, up 0.84% in the last 24 hours and 2.88% in the last seven days, according to data from CoinMarketCap.

It bears mentioning that the crypto experienced a drop over the weekend after seeing its bullish price moves stall last week. The altcoin dropped as low as $0.3876 after printing an over 2% loss.

Like many other altcoins, including ETH, it is worth noting that XRP is currently testing the previous support-turned-resistance following the market-wide price plunge in the wake of the FTX collapse. IncomeSharks predicts that altcoins could experience a significant rally if they break the level.

Eager Crypto informs that if XRP Flips Fib 0.786 (0.40$ to 0.39$) into support, it will shoot up to Fib 1, present at 0.75$.

For XRP, the significant resistance is around the $0.42 price point. Notably, a break past these levels could see the altcoin run up to pre-FTX collapse highs of $0.5.

However, per an analysis from Duo Nine, a seasoned price action analyst on Friday, this may be unlikely for XRP. The analyst instead predicts that the altcoin could continue to consolidate just below the $0.40 price point as volumes decrease and daily time frame indicators curve lower. Meanwhile, if the price continues to trend lower, the analyst says XRP risks a 21% drop to $0.31.

The altcoin continues to move in tandem with the overall crypto market constrained by macroeconomic conditions and rate hikes. However, it could decouple depending on perceived outcomes from the US Securities and Exchange Commission case against Ripple.

Notably, both parties submitted redacted versions of reply briefs from both parties last Friday. Consequently, the weekend slide may be interpreted as a sign of continued uncertainty. However, it is worth noting that several Ripple supporters expect the price of the token to experience a massive surge in the case of a Ripple win.

Unlike other major crypto assets that formed all-time highs in 2021, XRP’s all-time high was in January 2018 at $3.40. Several XRP holders believe this is because of the legal battle with the SEC that forced several US exchanges to delist the token in December 2020.

5.4M Terra Classic Burnt By a Single Wallet

0

5.6M Terra Classic (LUNC) tokens were burnt in the past 24 hours, with a single wallet incinerating up to 5.4M in one transaction.

Terra Classic (LUNC) remains on the path to absolute rejuvenation, as the community witnessed cumulative burns to the tune of 5,619,272 LUNC tokens on Sunday. Among these 5.6M tokens, a single wallet accounted for up to 5.4M incineration, representing over 96% of all the tokens burned for the day.

The first burn transaction for Sunday occurred at 3:04 (UTC), according to Terra Finder, and it involved the incineration of 80,000 LUNC tokens. Coming without a memo, little is known of the entity behind the burn transaction.

LUNC DAO Burns up to 5.4M LUNC

Notwithstanding, the largest transaction in the past 24 hours occurred on December 4, 20:38 (UTC), as the network witnessed the incineration of 5,431,032 LUNC tokens at once. Data from Terra Finder indicates that the transaction comes with the memo LUNC-DAO-BURN-38, suggesting a connection to the independent Terra validator LUNCDAO.

LUNCDAO remains one of the most active LUNC-burning entities, as it persistently incinerates as many tokens as possible to uphold its commitment to supporting the Terra Classic revival campaign. The latest burn represents its 38th batch of burns, with the 37th batch occurring on November 28, as previously reported.

LUNCDAO secures the fifth position on the list of entities with the highest burns, with total burns almost double the value of fellow validator Allnodes. The most recent burn brings LUNCDAO’s total burns to 415M+ tokens. Last month, LUNCDAO burned up to 22M tokens in a single transaction, marking one of its largest burns to date.

The Broader Campaign for Terra Classic’s Rejuvenation Remains on Track

Meanwhile, the broader campaign for the resurrection of the Terra Classic token remains on track, with the community showing no signs of relenting. The independent group committed to the revival of the token, Terra Rebels, also continued to make its mark.

On November 30, Terra Rebels unveiled a new Terra Classic Wallet to reduce dependence on Terra Station, a few days after it debunked rumors of abandoning the chain, assuring the community of its continued support as it switches to a budgeted work model.

The Terra Classic community may get Osmosis support in burning LUNC. Terra Classic Network is also set to re-open IBC channels tomorrow.

Last week, The Crypto Basic highlighted two factors that could contribute to LUNC’s journey to $1, which include real-world utility, and increased burns. The community is torn between which is of greater importance.

Terra Classic All Set To Re-Open IBC Channels Tomorrow

0

There are a few things to note as the Terra Classic Network is set to re-open IBC channels tomorrow.

The Terra Classic network is set to re-enable Inter Blockchain Communication tomorrow, as confirmed by @reXxTerraRebels, AKA reXx, a member of the Terra Rebels, an independent Terra Classic development group, in a tweet hours ago.

According to the developer, the community would still have to pass some additional governance proposals to upgrade tendermint clients, as indicated in the proposal excerpt shared.

Per the excerpt, the code has successfully gone through preliminary tests, and developers are carrying out additional tests to seek more external reviews. Notably, there will be no downtime as a result of the upgrade.

It bears mentioning that developers initially scheduled the IBC re-opening to launch with the v23 upgrade. However, Terra Classic core developer Edward Kim noted in November that they had deemed it necessary to move up the timeline to keep up with the changes in the Cosmos ecosystem. Consequently, as previously reported, the developer launched a proposal to get the IBC channels re-opened by December 5.

It is a significant milestone for the network with the potential to incentivize utility for Terra Luna Classic (LUNC). Notably, with the ability to once again transfer value across other Cosmos chains, developers could build and update their projects to accept LUNC and attract the budding Terra Classic community. In addition to the v23 upgrade, the Terra Classic network will become fully Cosmos interoperable, allowing projects building on LUNAv2 to deploy on Terra Classic.

Kim first revealed in September that developers were working to re-open the lines of communication that Terraform Labs had cut off during the ecosystem collapse. Then, in October, senior Cosmos developer Jacob Gadikian revealed to the excitement of the community that the code was ready.

Notably, the prospect of re-opening IBC channels has sparked several proposals hoping to maximize burns from the event. For example, while one user has called for an increase in the tax burn parameter, another has suggested that the network signal to Osmosis that it wants the decentralized exchange to carry out LUNC burns off-chain.
