Terra (LUNA) Founder: I Have Never Been In Contact With South Korean Authorities

0

South Korea Authorities Haven’t Been In Contact With Terra’s Do Kwon.

After months of being holed up in Singapore, Terra founder now says he has never been in contact with South Korean authorities.

The events of May 2022 in crypto are still very fresh in many people’s minds. Chief among them is the collapse of the Terra ecosystem that followed the de-pegging of the UST stablecoin and the Terra Luna’s price crash. The crash led to investors losing over $40 billion within weeks. A few investment schemes like Celsius, Three Arrows Capital, and Voyager went underwater as the market collapsed after LUNA.

Following the crash, South Korean authorities are said to have launched an investigation into Terraform Labs to unearth details about the crash. Prosecutors have since raided TFL premises as well as homes belonging to some Terra employees for evidence. However, Terra founder Do Kwon now says that he hasn’t been in contact with the authorities. He intimated this during a recent interview with Coinage Media.

Will Do Kwon Return To South Korea?

Do Kwon has been living in Singapore for some time, having moved out of South Korea before the authorities banned Terra employees from traveling out of the country. Singapore has no extradition treaty with SK, meaning that it would be hard for prosecutors to get Do Kwon in custody.

Bloomberg reports during the interview with Coinage Media, Kwon was asked if he plans to return to South Korea any time soon. He said,

“It’s kind of hard to make that decision because we’ve never been in touch with the investigators. They’ve never charged us with anything.”

However, he promised to cooperate with authorities if need be. About the possibility of him serving time in jail, Kwon said, “Life is long.”

Prosecutors Are Not Talking

Interestingly, South Korean prosecutors don’t seem to be in a hurry to share details of their investigation with the media. Last month, they raided the home of Terraform Labs co-founder, Daniel Shin, citing illegal operations relating to the collapse of Terra. When asked about the ongoing investigation, they only told the media that they’re “taking necessary measures.”

Can Web3 Help Solve the 10 Trillion Dollar Cyberthreat?

0

The James Webb Space Telescope has already presented the world with amazing images, representing mind-boggling numbers.  Billions of galaxies.  Billions of lightyears away.  Trillions of stars.  These numbers are hard for the human mind to wrap around, especially without context.

Here’s a number that is much closer to home, but equally mind-boggling:  $10 Trillion.  This is how much cybercrime might cost the world by 2025.  It’s a number so large we don’t even know what to do with it.  To try and give it context, think about this.  $10 Trillion is larger than any country’s GDP except for the US and China.  This means the problem is bigger than Japan’s, UK’s, and Germany’s GDP—by a lot.  This is the amount of damage that cybercrime stands to cause the world:  Nearly 10% of global GDP.

What is causing this problem?  What is being done to fix it?  And is there any future where we don’t have a solid 10% penalty due to criminals?  Let’s dive in and take a look at the key issues, and some of the most promising solutions being developed.

A Lot of Devices, A Lot of Holes

Chief among the issues we are facing might be the unmanageable growth of devices globally.  We have added devices, whether they are computers, mobile devices, IoT devices, etc., at an exponential rate. At this point we have 50 billion connected devices, with IoT a major (and unprotected) contributor.  And if you are trying to break into a house with 50 billion windows, odds are there will be plenty that are broken or unlocked.

Making the problem worse, this massive increase in devices has been relatively recent.  This is an issue because our natural innovation cycle hasn’t had time to catch up with the entirely new strategies required to handle a massive field of IT devices, spread out far beyond the physical campuses companies are used to protecting.  We simply don’t have the mindset matured to handle these types of systems, and it shows.  In 2021, for example, hackers used a single password to infiltrate the Colonial Pipeline Company with a ransomware attack that caused fuel shortages across the U.S.

It’s not that companies aren’t trying.  In fact, companies are spending more than ever on cybersecurity, over $260 Billion annually.  Sadly, despite this the cybercriminals are gaining ground, with cybercrime increasing each year despite the growing attempts to stop it.

So with those facts, what can possibly be done?  We rely too much on technology to give up, but spending more doesn’t seem to be working.  Perhaps it’s what we are spending that money on that matters.  Many of the strategies, products, and services we are using are meant to protect a walled castle, not a distributed network of individual devices.  This core shift in thought would go a long way to protecting our more and more distributed systems.

New Tech, New Perspective

Thankfully, not all hope is lost.  Along with the trends of growing devices are key innovations that, if steered toward the field of cybersecurity, could directly address the challenge of many distributed devices vs. the walled castle approach of yesteryear.

Among these innovations is Web3.  It is the pinnacle of decentralization, and has been designed to thrive, rather than be at risk, in a decentralized environment.  Many, many different devices are spread out globally, and through the use of smart contracts, consensus algorithms, and a blockchain, the devices create more than the sum of their parts.  While not perfect on its own (we see Web3 hacks on blockchains regularly), it begins to create what is known as a “cybersecurity mesh”, built to protect distributed systems.

Along with a Web3 structure, the ideal cybersecurity mesh would be fully independent and autonomous.  No humans required for the system to run perpetually.  This is certainly a challenge, but a number of organizations are seeing amazing results in their development efforts.  With humans as the greatest risk to IT security, this alone is a major step.

The use of AI in security is a growing and promising option as well.  New AI models are able to tease out and detect anomalies, risks, and threats that humans simply can’t see, at speeds humans simply can’t match.  This will continue to see innovations at a near constant rate.

What about scalability?  It’s not enough to be able to handle a network of X devices.  We need a system that actually gets better the more devices are added.  While this seems counter-intuitive, it too is showing promise.  Actually, one of the leaders in this field, Naoris Protocol, is basing their entire platform around this premise.  To solve the problem, they have developed a unique consensus mechanism called Distributed Proof of Security (dPoSec), whereby the nodes in the network each protect and validate each other continuously, increasing the amount of coverage, security checks, and the ability to quickly identify bad actors trying to access the system.  In part, what makes their system especially interesting is the use of AI swarm methodologies, a new field being developed that allows a large group of agents to autonomously interact and make key decisions.  For Naoris, utilizing AI swarm techniques for a distributed system of nodes is a match made in heaven.  A Web3 network already acts like a swarm in many ways, so implementing the AI methodology is ideal, effective, autonomous, and scales indefinitely.

Looking Ahead

Things are certainly bleak right now, with cybercriminals winning the battle against companies spending massive amounts to protect themselves.  However, not all is lost.  With a genuine focus shifting to protecting distributed systems (catching up with the way our systems currently operating), we might just be able to prevent a 2025 that costs us $10 Trillion in damages.

Terra Founder Do Kwon Says He Had An “Entertaining Alter Ego”

Kwon Admits to Making Bad Decisions That Led To The Collapse Of Terra And UST while possessing an “entertaining alter ego.”

In a recent statement with Coinage Media, Terra’s Do Kwon was quoted saying that the collapse of Terra was partly due to his bad decision-making.

A few months ago, the crypto market went on a downward spiral, with some of the previously popular investment schemes going bankrupt. Some cryptos like Terra Luna (now Luna Classic) and its Terra native stablecoin, UST, collapsed. Now, it appears that Terra’s own CEO may have contributed to the collapse of the Terra ecosystem.

Bet Big, Lose Big

In a recent statement, Do Kwon admitted that the collapse of Terra might have had its genesis from his wrong market assumptions. According to him, he made a series of big bets that ultimately didn’t pay off in the end, thus leading to the crash of LUNA’s price from the highs of close to $120 in early May to the lows of mere pennies. The coin is currently trading at around $0.000096.

The full interview is yet to be released. In the currently available short clip, Do Kwon said,

“I made confident bets and made confident statements on behalf of UST because I believed in its resilience and its value proposition. I’ve since lost these bets, but my actions 100% match my words. There is a difference between failing and running a fraud.”

He further admitted that he had an “entertaining alter ego.”

alter ego is “When a character lives more than one life, having a secret identity or taking on more than one personality, that alternate personality is their alter ego—for instance, think of Spider-Man, who is the alter ego to Peter Parker.”

Interview To Include Terra Employees

Apparently, the full interview hosted by Zack Guzman of Coinage Media included some of Terraform Labs’ employees. Hopefully, their inclusion will shed more light on what exactly happened to Terra Luna and UST. TFL and Do Kwon are currently involved in serious legal trouble with the authorities in South Korea, whereby they are accused of tax evasion. Authorities are also investigating to find out whether Terra executives may have intentionally caused the Luna and UST crash.

All 5000+ of My Instagram Accounts Are Fake, Ethereum Founder Vitalik Buterin Gives A Reminder

Ethereum Founder Gives a Regular Reminder.

Vitalik Butrin, the Ethereum co-founder and Canadian writer, has once again warned the public about the various Instagram accounts impersonating him on Instagram to defraud people.

In a Twitter post on Monday, the software developer noted that the more than 500 profiles on Instagram with the name “Vitalik Buterin, Bütеirn, or whatever” posting on Instagram are fake and have nothing to do with him.

“Regular reminder: all 5000+ of my Instagram accounts are fake profiles and have nothing to do with me. Anything you see “Vitalik Buterin” (or “Bütеirn” or whatever) posting on Instagram is a scam,” the tweet read.

Meanwhile, earlier this year, an Instagram imposter account decorated with photos of Vitalik Buterin, which is very similar to the one the Ethereum co-founder uses on his profile, deceived the audience with sponsored posts and advertisements.

The attack was described as a sinister scam by Yoloswagmonster, a content creator on TikTok. He also explained that the fake account was based in Israel, and some of the usernames in the account were all trying to be Butrin.

Shiba Inu Surges Over 30% As Whale Activities Tap 4-Month High

0

Shiba Inu whales get busy during the weekend, driving the price over 30% higher.

In a tweet on Monday, Santiment Feed attributes Shiba Inu’s massive price moves over the weekend to increased whale activity on the network, noting over 433 transactions exceeding $100k, the highest since April.

“Shiba Inu has been on the move this weekend, and is up +34% in the past 24 hours while crypto has been fairly flat. Not so coincidentally, whales have been very active on $SHIB. There have been 433 transactions valued at $100k+, the most in 4 months,” Santiment wrote.

Notably, it was a good weekend for meme coins as Dogecoin also rallied by over 15%. CoinDesk reports that short liquidations for both tokens surpassed $25 million. While the reason for the recent surge in Shiba Inu whale activity is not specified, it is worth noting that there is excitement in the ecosystem as the Shiba Inu game Shiba Eternity begins to roll out.

The community has anticipated Shiba Eternity for months since developers first revealed they were working on a card collection game with PlaySide Studios in December. Notably, the game has been released for testing for iOS users in Vietnam, with speculation that Indonesia is next. Meanwhile, leaked chats have revealed that lead Shiba Inu developer Shytoshi Kusama is very excited about the possibilities the game will unlock, calling it “SUPER strategic.”

Notably, the Shiba Inu token was trending in Asia, the US, and Canada in the past week due to recent developments. The ecosystem’s Layer 2 Blockchain solution, Shibarium, is also expected to have a beta launch soon. It is worth noting that Shiba Inu was ranked as the most popular crypto last year, surpassing even Bitcoin.

Consequently, whales have started adding to their bags. Last Tuesday, an Ethereum whale added 312 billion SHIB to its bag, bringing its holdings to 516 billion SHIB.

Shiba Inu is trading at the $0.00001577 price point, up 2.11% in the last 24 hours and 26.78% in the last seven days.

Dormant Whale With Over 145k ETH Balance Is On The Move

0

Ethereum whale empties its wallet, driving speculation that holders are selling the news.

In a tweet on Monday, WuBlockchain reports that an Ethereum whale from the time of Ethereum’s Genesis ICO after three years of dormancy has become active again, transferring all its holdings to multiple addresses.

“Ethereum Genesis ICO giant whale 0x4bAf012726CB5EC7Dda57Bc2770798A38100C44d is active again after nearly 3 years of dormancy. Since yesterday, a total of 145,000 ETHs have been transferred out and distributed to multiple wallets,” WuBlockchain wrote.

According to WuBlockchain, the whale that obtained 150,000 ETH in Ethereum’s Genesis ICO was last active in July 2019. At the time, the whale transferred about 5000 ETH to Bitfinex when Ethereum was trading around the $219 price point.

Notably, the report is driving speculation that holders plan to sell the news as the Ethereum Merge approaches. One user with the pseudonym Trader WhiteBeard noted, “Sell the news mega dump coming.”

Meanwhile, on Friday, The Crypto Basic reported that Options traders expect Ethereum to see a significant price decline following the Merge. Notably, Glassnode analysts reported that “traders are paying a premium for ‘sell-the-news’ put-option protection post-Merge.”

Earlier in the month, a CryptoQuant analyst had also called for users to exercise caution in the Ethereum markets following the surge in active addresses. According to the analyst, active addresses tend to peak at the top of price rallies when retail traders become scared of missing out.

However, not every analyst shares these pessimistic views. For example, in a recent blog post, BitMex founder Arthur Hayes revealed that he is betting it all on the Ethereum Merge. According to Hayes, Ethereum is still underpriced. Additionally, he doesn’t believe holders would want to sell for a profit post Merge as the asset will become deflationary.

Notably, Lark Davis highlighting the impacts of the reduced Ethereum supply following the Merge, reveals that a whopping $600 million of selling pressure at current prices is taken off the market monthly. Additionally, he notes that shifting to proof-of-stake (PoS) means shifting to a staking economy that sees validators stake their holdings to earn more rewards instead of dumping them for profit. Davis says all of these, coupled with the Ethereum burning mechanism, would make the asset deflationary and potentially create more value for holders.

It is worth noting that the long-anticipated upgrade that would see Ethereum merge with the Beacon chain and migrate to the PoS consensus mechanism is slated for September 15.

Judge Sarah Netburn Approves Ripple’s Request to Obtain Seven Video Recordings of SEC’s Officials Public Remarks

Ripple has been given the green light to serve subpoenas to two non-parties in the ongoing lawsuit.

Judge Sarah Netburn has granted Ripple’s request to serve subpoenas to two video sharing platforms to authenticate seven videos of SEC officials’ public remarks.

According to James K. Filan, the blockchain company got the approval in a text-only order, which reads:

“Order granting 583 letter motion for leave to serve two non-party subpoenas. (Hereby ordered by magistrate Judge Sarah Netburn),” the order reads.

Ripple and SEC at Loggerhead Over the Issue

The order came less than two weeks after Ripple requested to serve subpoenas to two non-party in a bid to authenticate seven videos of SEC officials’ remarks.

Ripple has sought to obtain the video recordings from the video-sharing platforms. However, the platforms requested that Ripple should serve the subpoenas first before it would be allowed to download the media content.

At the time, the SEC refused to consent to the move. The Securities and Exchange Commission noted that it would consent to Ripple’s request only if the blockchain company agrees to reopen fact discovery.

Per Ripple, the commission planned on serving: “its own set of subpoenas to obtain copies of unspecified video recordings in support of its claims and only if defendants further agree to waive any authenticity and procedural objections to the unknown SEC videos.”

However, Ripple noted that the subpoenas it intends to serve on the video sharing platform were not a plot to reopen fact discovery. Ripple said the subpoenas relate to the Requests for Admission (RFA) it served before the end of fact discovery on August 31, 2021.

Responding to Ripple, the SEC noted in a one-line statement that it does not take any position “on Defendants’ motion to reopen fact discovery to serve non-party subpoenas for the purpose of obtaining video recordings for authentication.”

The SEC still maintained that Ripple’s request to serve subpoenas to both parties is a move to reopen fact discovery.

0

Already known for her unique, melancholic and eye-catching monochrome illustration and gothic designs, Glam Beckett’s art has gained a wider audience and made an impressive contribution to the NFT sphere with her groundbreaking digital art projects, Sad Girls Bar. It’s one of the very first women centered NFT collections of all time on Ethereum blockchain and one of the top collections on OpenSea.

Sad Girls Bar is a collection of 10,000 hand-drawn and randomly generated NFTs that showcase sad yet strong girls with rebellious style and attitude. Skeletongues —  the second collection of the stylish skeletons created to support Sad Girls and always be their undead accomplices in exciting bar adventures. The Sad Cats —  the third collection, dedicated to the most loving and affectionate animals. There’s a whole world surrounding Sad Girls Bar, based on Glam Beckett’s art and story.

About Glam Beckett

Glam Beckett — independent female artist, her style is distinctive, confident and inclusive, with a bold, monochrome color palette and gothic aesthetics. The highlights of Glam’s art career are the one of the top NFT talent awards for ‘Draw The Undead’ contest by the prominent project DeadFellaz, and the showcase of her artwork in Time Square during the largest NFT event, NFT.NYC 2022. Her talent is highly valued in the NFT space; she was already granted membership in HUG, founded by Randi Zuckerberg, — a company committed to embracing Web3 creators and taking teams from the top artistic project to the creative accelerator. Glam was also recognized and granted artist membership for her creative achievements in UnicornDAO — the leading Web3 organization, creating equality for women-identified and LGBTQ+ artists, with Grimes, Sia and Beeple as early members.

Who are Sad Girls?

Glam Beckett is a notable artist and has significantly contributed to the NFT art field by creating an original collection, which helps to attract more women to Web3, and make them feel well represented and welcomed here. In the NFT space it doesn’t matter much what your everyday real life looks like. You can show a more authentic, raw self here, and still feel safe. Sad Girls might look vulnerable and sensitive, yet they’re confident enough to express themselves, explore emotions and entertain ideas that might otherwise be described as too dark, melancholic or mysterious.

As Glam Beckett describes this collection: ‘Sad girls have always been a popular topic in the media, from the meditative figures in the Middle Age paintings to the pop culture images today. Sadness as a central theme is fundamental to the aesthetic experience. Sad Girls represent a full spectrum of emotions and styles, from yearning to loneliness, blues to anger, boredom to disappointment to the realization that their personal growth is something to celebrate. They are here to fight toxic positivity that keeps flooding NFT space.’

In the NFT space heavily dominated by men, there are more and more women who are starting to get interested in crypto and NFTs, and they need a project where they might be represented and seen. Sad Girls don’t follow any beauty standards, and are an alternative to typical femininity and find personal ways to express their uniqueness. Glam’s influence on Web3 is undeniable — many women have already found their own Sad Girls PFPs that resonate perfectly with them, and let them portray themselves online exactly how they want. This monochrome, impactful art project has an extremely important mission which matters for representation and inclusion in the NFT community.

Sad Girls Bar is one of the top women-led projects in the NFT ecosystem. With Glam Beckett creative vision and talent supported by her teammates, and strong mission, Sad Girls Bar has been an undeniable achievement. All of the project’s collections — Sad Girls Bar, Skeletongues, The Sad Cats — have been sold, but continue to make the rounds on the secondary market. Many of Sad Girls Bar NFTs were included in portfolios of notable influencers, celebrities and women’s advocates. Among them Guy Oseary, the talent manager who represents Madonna, U2; Reese Witherspoon and her production company, Hello Sunshine; Nadya Tolokonnikova and UnicornDAO; and many other big names.

What’s next for Sad Girls Bar?

Sad Girls Bar creates a safe space to express feelings without judgment and their thriving community offers support, virtual and IRL events, Metaverse experiences and much, much more. The art, the lore, the storytelling, the style and the vision, the shared sense of identity — all this matters and gives the NFT community a sense of purpose and belonging. Glam Beckett and her Sad Girls Bar collection will continue to be an inspiration for women around the world to create, express themselves, build and use all the opportunities within Web3.

Every collection created by Glam is a storytelling vehicle. Soon holders will have an opportunity to create their own story about Sad Girls and their bar adventures in the immersive Web3 experiment of Super NFT. Every Super NFT will include characters, settings and objects from the previous collections as well as new rare traits such as background, music, animation, and even full-body images of Sad Trios.

Glam Beckett says: ‘Super NFT launch lets Sad Girls Bar’s holders actively participate in the creation of an art piece and story behind it, and it can bring their NFTs to a whole new level.’

With a strong foundation and swiftly growing audience of Sad Girls Bar, Super NFT is poised for undoubted success.
