Asian Markets Woke Up To Run Everybody Stops

Crypto Markets Open The Week On Low Energy As Prices Pull Back.

After a hot weekend, crypto prices seem to shift downward at the start of a new week.

The last few days were great for the crypto market as coins like Bitcoin and Ethereum scored the highest values seen in over a month. Bitcoin reached the highs of close to $24k while ETH touched $1,600. A lot of other cryptos saw double-digit spikes as the market appeared to be preparing for a sharp bull run.

However, things seemed to have changed as the weekend came to a close. At the time of this writing, a lot of the coins are in red. Bitcoin is trading at around $21,919, while ETH is going for $1,523. BTC has recorded a 24-hour drop of 3.5%, while ETH has posted a 5.4% decrease. Others like Solana (SOL) see a 5.7% reduction in 24 hours and a 7-day pullback of 8%. It’s not clear what prompted the pullback or whether the market could reclaim the glory of last week.

Dead Cat Bounce?

Just before the weekend, when crypto prices seemed to be mounting a major comeback, some analysts opined that this wasn’t something to celebrate too much because it was bound to shift back to bearish sentiments. Some called it a “dead cat bound,” a term used to describe a situation where market prices surge and portray a false bullish tendency before an unexpected drawback.

At the moment, it’s hard to conclude whether the recent price upswing was a dead cat bounce or whether it was a short period of bullish preparation for a possible surge in the near future. However, it’s worth noting that the crypto market has a history of price spikes, especially before and during some weekends. Time will tell whether the bulls will prevail or whether the crypto winter will kick back in.

Report: There Are Now 84.3 Million Ethereum Addresses With A Non-Zero Balance

0

In recent weeks, there has been a growing adoption of Ethereum (ETH), the world’s second-largest cryptocurrency.

According to data published by cryptocurrency on-chain analytics company Glassnode, the number of non-zero Ethereum addresses has hit a new all-time high (ATH).

Per Glassnode, the number of Ethereum addresses with a non-zero balance surged to an ATH of 84,381,102.

Widespread Adoption of Ethereum

Interestingly, people’s confidence in the crypto asset has continued to heighten, prompting its widespread adoption. It is not surprising to see the number of Ethereum addresses with a non-zero balance surge to a new all-time high.

Ethereum is one of the crypto projects that has lots of utility and has been widely adopted by developers. Developers consider the Ethereum network the perfect choice for their projects ranging from decentralized finance (DeFi), non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and play-to-earn (P2E) games, among others.

Users of these Ethereum-based cryptocurrency projects are usually required to pay transaction fees in ETH. This will ultimately position the coin for a rally as adoption skyrockets.

Investors are aware of Ethereum’s potential, prompting the massive purchase of the asset class as they prepare for an imminent rally.

ETH Price Performance

Ethereum gave investors a snippet of what it was capable of last year after its price surged to an all-time high of $4,878.

Unfortunately, the value of ETH has so far dipped 69% from its ATH. At the time of writing this line, Ethereum was trading at $1,521.

Santiment, a crypto analytics company that tracks the market data of over 2,000 digital currencies, commented on the recent price movement of ETH, saying:

“#Ethereum had an up and down Sunday, jumping above $1,640 before dipping back down to $1,540. The trading crowd continues to not believe the hype, and is expecting prices to fall heading into the #FOMC meeting. $ETH should continue to stay volatile.”

Meanwhile, ETH adoption has been growing tremendously in recent times. As reported by TheCryptoBasic, the number of addresses holding at least one ETH surged to a new all-time high over the weekend.

Cardano’s Charles Hoskinson Mocks Tesla and Bitcoin Maximalists As Tesla Failed To Maintain Its Bitcoin Diamond Hands

Hoskinson trolls Bitcoin maximalists yet again.

In a tweet on Sunday, input Output Global (IOG) founder Charles Hoskinson trolled Tesla and Bitcoin maximalists as crypto Twitter reacted to the news that Tesla had sold 75% of its Bitcoin holdings.

“WHOOPS! LOOKS LIKE THAT DIDN’T WORK EITHER,” the caption for a GIF posted by the Cardano chief read in response to a reaction over an Elon Musk tweet last year that Tesla had no intention of selling its Bitcoin, making reference to the popular diamond hands slang with emojis.

It is worth noting that Hoskinson has not held back against Bitcoin maximalists in recent times. For example, in an ask me anything session last Saturday, the IOG founder said Bitcoin maximalists are intellectually dishonest, adding that they are “the most difficult, toxic and useless people to engage with,” in response to claims by Michael Saylor that altcoins are securities while Bitcoin is not.

Tesla’s report that it had sold nearly $1 billion in Bitcoin in Q2 2022 surprised crypto enthusiasts and was not received well by Bitcoin maximalists. Michael Saylor, popular Bitcoin evangelist, and CEO of MicroStrategy, the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, cryptically tweeted, “If you sell 75% of your bitcoin, you will only have 25% of your bitcoin left.”

This month alone, Hoskinson has slammed long-time Bitcoin developer Jimmy Song twice over his arguments on how the proof-of-work (PoW) consensus mechanism is superior to proof-of-stake (PoS). “The level of stupidity here is beyond explanation,” Hoskinson tweeted in response to Song’s arguments.

It is worth noting that Hoskinson has rarely missed a chance to clap back at perceived ADA detractors. Most recently, the IOG chief mocked competitor Solana, again comparing the network to faulty old Nintendo consoles.

Ripple CEO: We Will Win As The Law Is On Our Side, But If Otherwise World Is Already Operating As If Ripple Has Lost

I am betting that Ripple will win the lawsuit against the SEC, Garlinghouse says.

Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple, discussed a number of crypto-related topics with Axios Fintech Reporter Lucin Shen at Collision 2022.

Garlinghouse spoke about an essential topic: the ongoing lawsuit between Ripple and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Ripple CEO said he is optimistic that the blockchain company will be victorious in the lawsuit. According to Garlinghouse, his confidence stems from the fact that the law and other facts support the company’s argument that XRP is not a security.

“I am betting that [Ripple will win the lawsuit] just to be clear. I am betting on that not just because of the tone of the questions from the Judge. I am betting on that because I know the facts are on our side. I am betting on that because the law is on our side,” Garlinghouse was quoted as saying in the interview.

SEC Thinks Otherwise

However, the SEC is still pushing the case to ensure Ripple’s XRP is classed as a security, Garlinghouse said.

“The SEC has massively overstepped, and they are trying to take jurisdiction ownership over something. I think they saw this gray area [that supports its argument that XRP is security] and decided to go in,” Garlinghouse added.

Garlinghouse: Nothing Will Change If Ripple Loses the Case

Shen further asked Garlinghouse what would happen if Ripple did not win the lawsuit. Garlinghouse noted that the company has been operating as it has already lost the lawsuit.

Moments after Ripple was charged, U.S.-based trading platforms halted XRP trading as they feared that the SEC might come after them for facilitating the exchange of the asset class.

“If Ripple loses the case, does anything change? It is status quo; Ripple is still growing quickly,” he said.

Garlinghouse said the Securities and Exchange Commission only has control in the United States, which has had a toll on XRP trading in the country. U.S.-based exchanges, including Coinbase, halted support for XRP immediately after Ripple was charged, forcing the price of the coin to plummet massively.

At the moment, the “world” is operating as if Ripple has lost the lawsuit Because SEC can only operate in US. and the world believes in Ripple, whether security or not.

“The SEC only has jurisdiction in the United States. In some ways, if you think about how the “WORLD” is operating right now, it’s as if the case has been lost.”

Things Going In Ripple’s Favor

The lawsuit, which has continued to linger for more than a year, is considered the biggest legal battle involving the SEC that has ever occurred in the cryptocurrency industry.

New developments released on a weekly basis are going in Ripple’s favor. This month, Ripple recorded a major win after Judge Sarah Netburn ordered the SEC to surrender the draft of William Hinman’s 2018 speech.

The blockchain company believes the draft speech would aid its Fair Notice Defense that XRP is not a security.

However, the SEC is unwilling to surrender Hinman’s documents to Ripple as it is preparing to oppose the order issued by Magistrate Netburn.

Terraform Labs, Do Kwon, And Others Face Second Class Action Suit In The U.S. By Law Firm Bragar Eagel & Squire

0

Terraform Labs and Do Kwon have been slammed with another class action lawsuit in the U.S.

U.S. law firm Bragar Eagel & Squire, P.C., in a press release on Sunday, has revealed that it has filed a class action lawsuit against Terraform Labs, Do Kwon, and other associates in the Northern District of California on behalf of persons who invested in Terra issued tokens from May 20, 2021, to May 25, 2022.

According to the complaint filed by the stockholder rights law firm, TerraForm Labs Jump Crypto, Jump Trading LLC, Republic Capital, Republic Maximal LLC, Tribe Capital, DFinance Capital, DFinance Technologies, GSR/GSR Markets Limited, Three Arrows Capital, Do Kwon, and Nicholas Platias are accused of misleading investors about the value of Terra ecosystem tokens.

Additionally, the claim alleges that all parties involved participated in the sale of unregistered securities. Furthermore, all parties are accused of defrauding investors for their gain.

The suit is the second class action lawsuit to be filed in the U.S. against the above parties following the infamous Terra ecosystem collapse in May. Notably, in June, Scott+Scott Attorneys at Law LLP revealed that it had launched a class action lawsuit against Terraform Labs, making broadly identical claims.

It is worth noting that investigations into the events leading up to the Terra USD (UST) de-pegging event and the subsequent LUNA collapse have recently heated up. As reported by The Crypto Basic on Friday, South Korean investigators raided the home of Terraform Labs co-founder Daniel Shin and the offices of several exchanges.

During the raids, investigators reportedly seized records hoping to find evidence that Do Kwon and his associates may have defrauded Terra investors.

The once-promising Terra ecosystem came to its knees in early May when what appeared to be an investor run on the bank occurred on Terra’s Anchor protocol. Consequently, Terra’s UST stablecoin de-pegged rapidly, tanking the value of the LUNA token despite claims of the stability of the token by Terraform Labs founder Do Kwon.

As a result, in just a few days, over $40 billion of investors’ funds was wiped off the market, with UST now trading at pennies on the dollar. Notably, the Terra ecosystem collapse led to a liquidity crisis for several crypto firms with undue exposure exacerbating panic in the crypto markets.

Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin Makes New Scalability Proposals To Adjust Gas Costs

Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin Makes New Scalability Proposals To Adjust Gas Costs As The Network Searches For Short-Term Solutions To Scalability Concerns

Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin has made new suggestions to solve efficiency concerns with how memory consumption is limited on the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).

“Currently, we limit the memory consumption of the EVM in two ways: a quadratic memory expansion cost and a de-facto call stack depth limit enforced with the EIP-150 ’63/64 rule’,” the Ethereum founder writes in his post. “These mechanisms are reasonably effective at their desired goal, but are both needlessly complicated and inefficient, punishing regular users too much and DoS attackers too little.”

In the post, Buterin notes that the current methods employed are inconsistent in how they price memory usage, unduly charge gas fees to expand memory usage when it takes up no additional resources, and lack a clear formula to estimate the max memory usage.

To this end, the programmer makes three proposals; cap memory by gas, cap total memory to 30m separately from gas, or cap memory by the square root of gas.

It is worth noting that with the increased adoption of the network, it has been plagued with high gas fees and scalability concerns. These issues have caused several DeFi projects to consider launching on competing Layer 1 blockchains. For example, earlier this year, following the issues faced in the Yuga Labs Otherside Otherdeed mint on the network, Yuga Labs proposed that the ApeCoin DAO consider a migration to another Layer 1 blockchain.

The proposal was narrowly voted against. Else, we could have seen the project migrate to Avalanche.

Notably, Ethereum’s scalability issues are one of the major drivers for its migration to proof-of-stake. At the moment, developers tentatively view September 19th as the date for the merge launch on the mainnet.

XRPL Labs Lead Developer Says The XUMM Wallet Has No Native Tokens

Wietse Wind says there is no XUMM-issued token.

Leading XRPL Labs developer Wietse Wind on Friday, in response to a query on Twitter about a XUMM token, has clarified that the XUMM wallet has no token, and the team has no plans to create one.

“XUMM has NOT made its own token, nor are there any plans to create one. There are currently two tokens issued on the XRPL with our name, XUMM and xumm, neither of which we issued,” Wind tweeted, clarifying the XRPL Labs’ stance.

Notably, it is the second time the developer has had to refute falsehoods about the XRP Ledger in as many days. Wind on Thursday, as reported by The Crypto Basic, refuted rumors that XRPL Labs was working on a credit card payment system for its XUMM wallet.

In the thread on Thursday, Wind noted that XRPL Labs is taking the more difficult route to avoid reinventing the old financial system by pushing payments using the XRP Ledger. According to Wind, the team is currently working on an on-ramp & off-ramp that would allow instant swaps from fiat to XRP on the XRP Ledger.

Wind concedes that these processes may take a considerable amount of time. However, he notes that he expects the bridge to go live later this year, first in the Netherlands.

It is worth noting that the XRP Ledger has not been void of developments. For example, on July 9, The Crypto Basic reported that XRPL Labs had rolled out Hooks Builder, allowing for the deployment of Layer 1 smart contracts on the XRP Ledger. Notably, the feat took two years of steady work by the team.

It is worth noting that in June, Ripple chief Brad Garlinghouse attributed the resilience of the XRP Ledger to its long-term developmental outlook. According to Garlinghouse, Ripple remains focused on solving problems and creating utility.

1.5M Addresses Now Hold 1 Plus Ethereum As 47.1M ETH Addresses Are In Profit At Current Prices

Number of Addresses Holding At Least One Ethereum (ETH) Hits New All-Time High.

Addresses holding at least one ETH have set a new record.

There has been a growing adoption of Ethereum (ETH), the world’s second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization.

Glassnode, a popular cryptocurrency data analytics platform, noted that the number of addresses holding at least one ETH has recently hit a new all-time high.

Per Glassnode data, the number of addresses holding a minimum of one ETH reached an ATH of 1,560,775 (1.56M) earlier today. The feat represents a 0.0046% surge from the previous all-time of 1,560,703 recorded yesterday.

“Ethereum Number of Addresses Holding 1+ Coins just reached an ATH of 1,560,775. The previous ATH of 1,560,703 was observed on 22 July 2022,” Glassnode stated in a tweet today.

Ethereum Investors Capitalize on Recent Price Crash

The rapid surge in addresses holding ETH suggests that Ethereum investors took advantage of the massive price decline in the coin’s price.

Recall that the price of Ethereum fell below $1,000 following a series of unfortunate events that rocked the cryptocurrency space.

Investors saw the price decline of Ethereum as an opportunity to increase their positions in the crypto asset.

Many Ethereum Investors in Profit

Fortunately, those who purchased ETH when its price was low have started reaping the benefits after its value spiked.

In the last seven days, Ethereum has gone up nearly 30%, according to Coigecko data, currently trading at $1582. 47.1M ETH addresses are enjoying profits at current prices.

“Ethereum Number of Addresses in Profit (7d MA) just reached a 1-month high of 47,115,905.863,” Glassnode tweeted.

SEC Requests to Seal Its Witness’ Identifying Information Regarding Motions to Exclude Expert Testimony in Ripple Lawsuit

0

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has requested to seal certain portions of the parties’ July 12, 2022, filings in connection with the motions to exclude expert testimony.

The SEC reiterated that its proposed redactions are part of efforts to protect the identities of its five expert witnesses. According to the SEC’s letter, one of its experts was subjected to heavy threats and harassment following the disclosure of his name by attorney John Deaton. He is requesting to represent XRP investors in the upcoming Daubert challenge.

Based on this, the SEC is not prepared to see other experts suffer a similar fate as the first witness.

SEC Makes Further Sealing Requests

“To protect the identities of the SEC Experts, the SEC proposes redacting the name of each expert as well as identifying information, including contact information, educational and employment history,” the SEC noted.

The Securities and Exchange Commission believes that the general public could use some of the details to “decipher the witness’ identities,” mostly through online search engines or social media platforms.

The SEC also seeks to seal the identities of consulting firms and their employees that aided the experts in their reports.

“These proposed redactions are narrowly tailored to serve the interests of witness safety, and the SEC’s application should therefore be granted,” the SEC added.

Furthermore, the SEC is proposing to redact four documents to prevent the disclosure of the financial information of Experts 1, 3, and 4. According to the agency, the proposed redactions are necessary because disclosing the financial information of the experts is not relevant to the Daubert motions, and it could jeopardize the experts’ privacy interests.

Notably, Ripple has also redacted the names of third parties from their reports in support of the Daubert motions.

“The SEC does not object to Defendant’s Application. If the Court orders that the names of third parties be sealed, the SEC will redact all such names in accordance with the redactions proposed by Defendants,” the Securities and Exchange Commission’s letter reads.

In conclusion, the SEC stated that other third parties whose information was cited in the parties’ reports might request to seal that information believed to be sensitive.
