Treasury Secretary Says Trump Focused “On Bringing Interest Rates Down”: What It Means for Bitcoin and Crypto

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has recently stoked excitement in the Bitcoin and crypto community.

Speaking to Fox News on Tuesday, March 4, ahead of President Donald Trump’s Congressional address, Bessent stressed that the administration is focused on bolstering the economy through various means, including “bringing interest rates down.”

The statement has sparked excitement as lower interest rates have become synonymous with rising Bitcoin and crypto asset prices. This is because lower borrowing costs typically lead to improved liquidity and appetite for risk, leading to more capital flows to crypto.

The 2021 bull market has largely been attributed to these low-interest rate conditions, while the 2022 bear market has primarily been attributed to the Federal Reserve’s hawkish shift to rein in inflation.

However, the interest rates referred to by Bessent are not the short-term borrowing costs solely controlled by the Fed. Bessent is referring to the 10-year Treasury yield, which is not just influenced by the Fed but also fiscal policy from the Treasury.

It is equivalent to the government’s borrowing rate and influences things like mortgage rates and corporate borrowing. By trying to bring this rate down, the government aims to reduce the cost of servicing its debts while stimulating economic growth through more affordable business loans and mortgages.

While a reduction in the 10-year yield does not translate to Fed interest rate cuts, it may have similar effects on crypto assets. Specifically, lower yields could make risk assets like Bitcoin and crypto more attractive.

At the time of writing, Bitcoin and the broader crypto market do not appear to have reacted to Bessent’s statements. Bitcoin, for example, is still trading near recent lows at $84,000.

Bitcoin Market Cap Will Hit $200T and Help Clear US Debt: Saylor Makes Case for Crypto Reserve

Bitcoin evangelist Michael Saylor explains how a Bitcoin reserve or crypto reserve could be in the interest of the American people.

Following President Donald Trump’s election victory, a major focus for the crypto community has been his promise to launch a strategic Bitcoin stockpile… or reserve? (Depending on who you ask, these are two different things).

Over the weekend, this promise again came to the fore as the president reiterated his intentions to launch this reserve and confirmed speculation that he intends to include other assets besides Bitcoin.

Trump’s crypto reserve plans have sparked a lot of questions within and outside the crypto community, but perhaps none as important as why it is in the interest of the American people.

A Solution to the U.S.’s Debt Problem?

Speaking with CNBC Television on Monday, March 3, Strategy Chairman and Bitcoin evangelist Michael Saylor suggested that a crypto reserve, especially a Bitcoin reserve, could serve U.S. interests in at least one significant way: clearing the U.S. national debt.

Saylor argued that this was possible if the U.S. purchased “up to 10%-20% of the Bitcoin network,” likely referring to 10%-20% of the asset supply, citing his projected trajectory of Bitcoin’s growth.

Specifically, the Strategy chairman expressed confidence that the asset will eventually hit a market cap of $200 trillion.

“Right now we’re about $2 trillion in Bitcoin. It’s going to $20 trillion, then it’s going to $200 trillion, then it’s growing 20% a year,” he asserted.

Saylor said this as he stressed that Bitcoin was not competing with the dollar but with global investments like international real estate, with capital flowing in from everywhere, including Asia, China, Russia, and Africa.

The Strategy Chair compared a direct U.S. Bitcoin investment to the country’s purchase of Manhattan and Alaska.

“We bought Manhattan for 60 guilders. It was a good trade. We bought Alaska for 6 million bucks. It was a good trade. We paid $40 million for 75% in this country. It’s a good trade. We can afford it. We should buy the future,” he surmised.

Meanwhile, beyond Bitcoin, he asserted that the broader digital asset ecosystem is worth $100 trillion to the U.S.

It is not the first time someone has floated the idea of using Bitcoin to clear the U.S. national debt. Trump flirted with the idea on the campaign trail. Still, the mechanics of how exactly this would work are unclear as the U.S. has a federal debt of $36.22 trillion at the time of writing.

While an answer to this query remains a head-scratcher, crypto industry participants and neutral observers can perhaps hope for clarity on other questions like how the crypto reserve assets will be purchased in the first-ever White House crypto summit slated for Friday, March 7.

XRP Ledger Records Massive Account and Trustline Growth Amid Surging Traction

Activity on the XRP Ledger, XRP’s native network, has surged substantially over the past few months, spurred by growing adoption and bullish macroeconomic factors.

With XRP and Ripple incessantly in the spotlight, the XRPL network has benefited from the renewed traction. This growing adoption has seen the activities on the blockchain surge extensively since the start of last year.

Recent data brought forward by senior software engineer at RippleX, Mayukha Vadari, has identified the upward trajectory in the activities on the XRPL network. The chart shows an impressive 24% growth in accounts on the blockchain and surging trustlines.

XRPL Ledger Benefits from Growing Traction

A chart accompanying Vadari’s chart further highlights the growing adoption evident in the XRPL network. It identified two metrics that have been on the rise in the Ledger since the start of last year: accounts and trustlines.

Per the chart, accounts on the XRP Ledger surged over 24% from their value in January 2024. Starting off at approximately 5 million, the number of accounts on the Ripple-affiliated blockchain has maintained a steady growth pace, nearing 6.2 million this month.

XRP Ledger Activity Over Time

This notable growth highlights the network’s spreading adoption and utility. Recall that the account reserve on the XRP Ledger dropped 90% from 10 XRP to 1 XRP in December, a factor that also contributed to the increased user deployment on the blockchain.

Meanwhile, the XRPL trustline, a feature that allows users determine which assets they are willing to hold in their accounts, has also surged alongside the number of accounts.

Catalysts for Growing Adoption

A few factors have contributed to XRP Ledger’s surging utility, including XRP’s blossoming price and institutional traction. For context, XRP surged over 500% in November following Donald Trump’s win.

The bullish momentum continued until January, when XRP recorded its highest close in history. While prices have retreated considerably, the adoption of the XRPL network has not slowed down. Also, the rise in meme coin activity has been a major contributor to the spike in XRPL accounts and trustlines.

Furthermore, institutional traction towards the XRP ecosystem has grown following increasing chances of regulatory clarity after years of litigation with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This heightening optimism has seen exchange-traded fund (ETF) applications from multiple asset managers, further boosting XRP and the XRP Ledger.

Other bullish developments, like the official launch of the Ripple USD (RLUSD) stablecoin and strategic partnerships between Ripple and major financial institutions, have contributed immensely to the growing XRP Ledger activities.

Leading Analyst Says XRP May be Heading to $1

Prominent analyst Ali Martinez has warned that XRP is at significant risk of a massive crash to $1.

Martinez shared this perspective in a post on X today, stating, “XRP is heading to $1.” For context, XRP trades for $2.37 at press time.  A drop to $1 would result in an astonishing loss of 58% from current levels.

A major factor influencing this bearish outlook is a pattern XRP’s candlesticks have formed since December 2024. Martinez pointed out that XRP’s price pattern has been shaping a head-and-shoulders pattern on the daily timeframe.

This formation has a neckline at $2, which serves as a strong support level. Meanwhile, he noted that in the last 24 hours, XRP has formed the right shoulder of this bearish formation. According to Martinez, this is not a positive sign.

Consequently, he suggested that a sustained break below $2 would elevate the risk, with a possible 58% decline to $1. Notably, Martinez is not the only one voicing concerns about an imminent major breakdown for XRP.

Other Analysts Calling for Massive XRP Dump

Financial analyst Jesse Colombo has expressed similar concerns about XRP in a post on X today. Colombo also cited the appearance of a head-and-shoulders pattern on XRP’s daily chart and highlighted the $2 mark as the decision point for XRP’s next trajectory.

Colombo stressed that if XRP closes below the $2 level, it would validate the bearish pattern and likely trigger a rapid sell-off. Meanwhile, he did not specify how low XRP could go.

Before now, there have been numerous calls for XRP to crash back to lower levels last seen in November 2024, but the asset has continued to trend higher. Those expecting the crash are mostly critics who do not believe in the token’s ability to sustain its uptrend in the bull market.

For instance, an expert known as “IncomeSharks” warned that XRP could see a dramatic price drop to $0.60. The major factor influencing this outlook is their view that XRP’s trajectory has historically resembled a “pump and dump” pattern, where XRP rallies aggressively for a while and later dumps hard as much as it soared.

While they had long expected this occurrence, it has not happened. However, the recently formed head-and-shoulders pattern has reinforced the bearish outlook.

Bullish Sentiment Amid Bearish Calls

Despite the bearish sentiment, some analysts are still seeing bullish signs on XRP’s chart. One analyst, Captain Faibik, looked at the same XRP daily chart and argued that a bullish pennant is underway, with a likelihood for a rebound to $5.

Already, XRP’s price has dipped by over 10% today as Bitcoin undergoes a correction back to the $83K price level. With some analysts calling for a $70K Bitcoin price, XRP may find it challenging to sustain a position above the $2 mark.

Dogecoin Breaks Below $0.20: Will Bears Target $0.13 Next?

Dogecoin (DOGE) price decline signals a potential falling wedge breakdown, with a sharp correction potentially pushing the price to $0.13

As the crypto market slides back to pre-crypto reserve announcement levels, Dogecoin witnessed a pullback of 16%. As the declining trend continues, Dogecoin has breached the $0.20 psychological mark with an intraday pullback of 2.80%.

Currently, the biggest meme coin, with a market cap of $28.64 billion, is trading at $0.1931. Will this declining trend lead to a retest of the $0.13 support level? Let’s explore.

Dogecoin Price Crashes Under $0.20

On the daily chart, DOGE’s price trend shows a significant surge of 15.80% on Sunday after the U.S. crypto reserve announcement. However, the onset of tariff wars between the U.S. and other nations triggered a broad crypto market crash.

Dogecoin plunged by 16.78%, erasing the weekend recovery, and is now trading below the 50% Fibonacci level at $0.20. With a 24-hour low of $0.1854, Dogecoin is testing the local support trendline of a falling wedge pattern.

As the decline continues, the 50 and 200 EMA lines are converging, signaling the potential for a death cross event. Furthermore, the daily RSI is returning to the oversold territory, reflecting weakening buying pressure. These technical indicators point to a potential falling wedge breakdown rally.

Growing Bearish Positions in Futures

The futures market is witnessing a significant shift, with the long-to-short ratio now at 0.9361, indicating more short positions. Meanwhile, the funding rate is at -0.0013%, showing that sellers are paying a premium to the bulls.

Dogecoin Derivatives
Dogecoin Derivatives

Currently, the open interest in Dogecoin has dropped by 15.28% to $1.64 billion. In the past 24 hours, $16.83 million worth of Dogecoin positions have been liquidated, with long liquidations accounting for $14.33 million.

Key DOGE Price Targets

According to Fibonacci levels, a potential breakdown of the falling wedge pattern could test the 23.60% Fibonacci level at $0.1315. However, if an unlikely recovery occurs, the overhead resistance levels are at $0.20 and $0.25, near the 200-day EMA line.

Ethereum in Steep Correction: Will $2,000 Hold or Break?

Ethereum (ETH) is nearing the $2,000 psychological support level, raising concerns about a potential breakdown as ETFs continue to register outflows.

As Bitcoin witnesses a quick pullback under $83,000, Ethereum is close to testing its $2,000 psychological mark. With a pullback of nearly 12% in the past 24 hours, the Ethereum market cap is down to $252 billion.

As the declining trend in Ethereum gains momentum, is the $2,000 support level breakdown inevitable? Let’s find out.

Ethereum Price Tests $2,000 Support

In the 4-hour price chart, Ethereum showcases a steep correction with two consecutive completion-range breakdowns. After the breakdown of the $3,000 psychological support, Ethereum found crucial support near the $2,500 mark.

Ethereum Price Chart
Ethereum Price Chart

However, the market crash in late February resulted in a second-range breakdown with a pullback towards $2,100. The announcement of the U.S. Crypto Reserve led to a quick V-shaped reversal to retest the broken $2,500 level.

However, the bullish failure to hold the trend momentum led Ethereum to take a bearish exit quickly. The downfall in Ethereum has accounted for nearly a 15% pullback. Currently, ETH is trading at a market price of $2,093.

The declining trend has resulted in a pullback in the Chaikin Money Flow Index from 0.32 to near the zero level. This hints at a significant reduction in buying pressure.

However, the daily RSI line hints at a potential bullish divergence. This suggests a possible consolidation near the $2,000 psychological mark.

Ethereum ETF Outflows Continue

As Ethereum warns of a potential breakdown of the $2,000 crucial support, U.S. Ethereum Spot ETFs record another day of outflow.

On March 3, the net outflow stood at $12.10 million. This marked the 8th consecutive outflow day since February 20.

Ethereum ETF
Ethereum ETF

Most Ethereum ETFs maintained a net-zero outflow on Monday, while BlackRock offloaded $16.06 million worth of Ethereum into the market. On the other hand, Bitwise registered an inflow of $3.96 million.

Will ETH Price Break Below $2,000?

Given the Ethereum price trend, the downtrend follows a pattern of consolidation ranges followed by breakdowns. As a result, Ethereum could experience consolidation near the $2,000 psychological support level.

However, broader market conditions—such as the potential for tariff wars from the United States—could trigger a significant crash in both global and crypto markets. In this case, Ethereum could break below $2,000 and test the crucial $1,800 support level.

On the bullish side, if Ethereum manages to consolidate, it could eventually test the overhead resistance near $2,400 or $2,530.

Bitcoin Revisits $82K: Will It Drop to $70K with Triangle Fallout?

The bullish failure in BTC price to surpass local resistance trendline leads to $82k retest. Will this crash Bitcoin to $70k?

With a sudden cooldown in the crypto market recovery, Bitcoin is now back at $84,000. After an overnight pullback of 8.61%, the bearish trend follows with an intraday downfall of 2.32%.

Hence, with a 10% pullback within 36 hours, Bitcoin undermined the quick recovery amid the announcement of a U.S. crypto reserve. Will this pullback result in a breakdown rally in BTC prices?

Bitcoin Price Trend Forms Symmetrical Triangle

With a 24-hour low at $82,450, Bitcoin shows lower price rejection from the 61.80% Fibonacci level near $82,000. Furthermore, the lower price rejection comes from a long-coming support trendline that forms a symmetrical triangle with the local resistance trendline.

Bitcoin Price Chart
Bitcoin Price Chart

As the triangle pattern holds the fate of Bitcoin, the lower price rejection ends at a potential comeback if the market stabilizes. The sudden comeback of bearish momentum has dissolved the chances of a bullish crossover in the MACD and signal lines.

Furthermore, the daily RSI line has taken a reversal from the halfway level. Hence, the technical indicators reflect a rise in volatility, leading to increased uncertainty.

A New Wave of ETFs Outflow Days?

On March 3, the pullback in Bitcoin saw a $74.19 million outflow in the U.S. Bitcoin spot ETFs. The increased outflow highlights institutional weakness despite the announcement of the U.S. Crypto Reserve.

Driving the outflows, BlackRock dumped $77.97 million worth of Bitcoin, followed by Grayscale offloading $54.39 million. While the rest of the Bitcoin ETFs maintain a net-zero flow. ARK Invest was the only ETF to experience inflows, totaling $58.18 million.

Declining Net Flow Over Exchanges

Amid a lack of institutional support, Bitcoin’s net flow across exchanges remains negative. Net flow refers to the difference between Bitcoin entering and exiting exchanges.

Bitcoin Netflow
Bitcoin Netflow

Currently, the aggregated exchange net flow stands at -4.32K BTC, indicating that more Bitcoin is being withdrawn than deposited. This suggests a declining supply on exchanges, which could potentially create a supply squeeze and drive prices higher.

Over the past 7 days, the net flow has totaled -6.23K BTC, while the 30-day figure is at -3.75K BTC.

Will Bitcoin Price Crash to $70k?

Bitcoin’s price trend is currently trapped within a symmetrical triangle. The lower price rejection has helped keep Bitcoin above the 61.8% Fibonacci level, but the sudden bearish shift raises concerns about a potential breakdown.

If Bitcoin falls below the 61.8% Fibonacci level, a trendline breakout could push the price towards the 38.2% Fibonacci level, which is near $70,000.

On the bullish side, Bitcoin would need to break through the local resistance trendline near the 78.75% Fibonacci level around $92,000 to make a strong comeback.

A successful breakout could drive Bitcoin above the $106,000 supply zone, potentially creating a new all-time high. According to the Fibonacci levels, the 1.272 extension at $127,800 could represent Bitcoin’s next all-time high.

Hackers Complete Movement of Bybit Hack Loot, but All Hope Is Not Lost

0

North Korean hackers completely transfer the Bybit hack loot but recovery is not yet totally out of the question.

North Korean hackers sent shockwaves through the crypto and finance world on February 21 after stealing $1.5 billion worth of Ethereum from leading crypto exchange Bybit.

What’s more? In the fallout, these hackers have made quick work of laundering the loot—yet it may not be all doom and gloom.

Not all “Dark”?

As of Tuesday, March 4, the North Korean hackers have completely transferred out or swapped the 499,000 ETH stolen from the Bybit hack.

This is according to prominent on-chain sleuth Yujin, popularly known as “EmberCN.” In a Tuesday X post, the analyst noted that the process only took ten days. This is less than the “half a month” timeline the analyst initially predicted.

While this report paints a dire picture, all hope may not be lost. Notably, on Tuesday, Bybit CEO Ben Zhou disclosed that only 20% of the loot, roughly $300 million, “has gone dark.”

According to the Bybit chief, 77% of the loot is still traceable. This includes over 361,000 ETH worth about $900 million swapped for Bitcoin on THORChain and nearly 17,000 ETH worth over $35 million transferred through OKX’s Web3 wallet.

At the same time, Zhou noted that 3% of the total loot, roughly $45 million or 15,000 ETH, has been frozen.

Still, there is a sense of urgency around recovery efforts.

Critical Week

According to Zhou, this week and the next will be critical to recovering the loot from the Bybit hack. He disclosed this, stressing that hackers will likely ramp up efforts to clear the loot on exchanges, peer-to-peer platforms, and through over-the-counter services.

The exchange had launched a bounty program to aid recovery efforts, offering community members rewards for tips leading to freezing parts of the loot.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation also appears to be involved in the investigation. Last week, the agency released a statement confirming the involvement of North Korean state-sponsored actors in the hack while urging all crypto industry participants to collaborate in recovery efforts.

But recovery of the Bybit loot is unlikely to be a cakewalk. For one, the North Korean hackers are leveraging thousands of wallets to frustrate the investigation. At the same time, they are no strangers to mixing services and non-KYC exchange platforms.

$7B in XRP Linked to Ripple Chairman Larsen After U.S. Reserve Announcement: Sleuth ZachXBT Highlights

0

On-chain sleuth ZachXBT recently spotlighted billions worth of XRP linked to Ripple Chairman Chris Larsen following President Trump’s reserve announcement.

This disclosure, which the investigator shared with the community on Telegram, coincides with the U.S. government’s announcement of a national crypto reserve featuring XRP alongside Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and Cardano.

His commentary has expectedly triggered new discussions about what most Bitcoin proponents perceive as centralized control around crypto assets with known issuers, especially as XRP’s inclusion in the reserve stirs controversy among Bitcoin maximalists.

Ripple Chairman’s Holdings

In his report, ZachXBT identified multiple XRP addresses, each activated by Larsen in 2013, that collectively hold over 2.7 billion XRP worth more than $7 billion. Most of these wallets have remained dormant for years, with Zach speculating whether Larsen still controls them or if he lost access as far back as February 2013.

Notably, wallet “rhR…tjna” sprang to life in September 2024, moving 50 million tokens on Sept. 16 and a subsequent 20 million XRP five days later. The Crypto Basic confirmed on Jan. 29 that this wallet continued to offload millions of XRP, moving out 40 million XRP in January 2025 and 60 million tokens since September 2024.

At the time of the report in January, this wallet had a balance of 410 million XRP tokens. However, its balance currently sits at 400 million tokens after it moved 10 million XRP hours after the report on Jan. 29. Notably, ZachXBT also called attention to the January sales in his recent disclosure.

Meanwhile, another wallet belonging to Larsen, “rPo…K2k,” shifted large funds in 2018, bringing its balance to 300 million XRP at the time. Since then, the address has continued to hold onto these 300 million tokens, remaining dormant for seven years.

Further, four wallets have clinged to their original 500 million XRP each, untouched since activation. The on-chain sleuth also called attention to the early 2024 hack where Larsen lost $112 million in XRP. The Crypto Basic highlighted this event at the time, which Larsen confirmed.

Discussions around US Strategic Reserve

The timing of ZachXBT’s disclosure reflects the frustration by Bitcoin proponents regarding XRP’s inclusion in the proposed U.S. strategic reserve. President Donald Trump’s March 3, 2025, announcement of the U.S. Crypto Reserve triggered a 28% XRP price surge within hours.

Bitcoiners like Will Baxter, vice president at Bitcoin mining resource Braiinsmining, stand against XRP’s inclusion in the reserve, pointing to Larsen’s and Ripple’s whale-like holdings.

In contrast, some individuals on X contend that relying solely on Bitcoin—created by the mysterious Satoshi Nakamoto, potentially a Chinese entity—poses its risks. Meanwhile, others like Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse believe diversifying the reserve strengthens U.S. financial security.

Shiba Inu Team Encourages Investors, Says ‘SHIB Will Succeed’

The team behind the Shiba Inu ecosystem encourages investors to keep an open mind regarding the success of SHIB.

Lucie, Shiba Inu’s Marketing Lead, encouraged the community following the devastating collapse of crypto prices.

Notably, SHIB was not spared in the latest market downturn, with its price collapsing to a multi-month low of $0.00001228. Although Shiba Inu has experienced a slight increase to $0.00001270, the token is still down 61.51% from its December 5 peak value of around $0.000033.

Also, SHIB is currently down 85.65% from its previous all-time high of $0.00008845. At the current price of $0.00001270, 85.23% of all blockchain addresses holding SHIB are currently in losses. These addresses hold a combined 839.23 trillion SHIB tokens, currently worth $10.66 billion.

On the contrary, 12.42% of all Shiba Inu addresses, with holdings of 122.34 trillion SHIB ($1.55 billion), are still in gains despite the latest decline. Additionally, the remaining 2.34% addresses, holding 23.09 trillion SHIB tokens, are neither making profits nor losing money at the current price.

Lucie Encourages Investors

With most SHIB investors in losses, Lucie sends some words of encouragement, noting that SHIB will succeed. The message conveys unwavering optimism that despite the recent market fluctuations leading to SHIB’s price decline, the token is destined for success.

Despite not revealing the factors fueling her optimism, Lucie has remained a firm believer in Shiba Inu. She believes that the numerous projects within the ecosystem will drive SHIB’s adoption, potentially pushing the price to lofty targets like $0.01 in the long term.

Her confidence stems from the team’s unending effort to transition the cryptocurrency from a meme coin to a utility token through projects such as Shibarium, ShibaSwap, SHIB: The Metaverse, Shiba Inu games, and Shib Marketplace, among others.

The team is pushing for a Shiba Inu ETF launch in the United States, potentially exposing institutional investors to SHIB’s price action. Also, Lucie expects the United States government to include SHIB in the country’s strategic crypto reserve.

This move would expand Shiba Inu’s credibility globally. Hence, other countries might follow suit and adopt SHIB as a reserve asset.

Shiba Inu Could See Double-Digit Gains By Month-End

In the meantime, SHIB is down 10.42% over the past 24 hours and 6.38% in the past week. Despite the plunge, data from CryptoRank suggests that Shiba Inu could finish this month with a double-digit gain.

At the moment, Shiba Inu boasts an average growth rate of 31.7% for the month of March. This comes after SHIB ended March 2022 with a slight surge of 0.43%.

It suffered a decline of 9.65% in March 2023 but later made up for it with an outstanding surge of 145.2% the following year. However, just four days into March 2025, SHIB’s price is already down 8.56%.
