Bitcoin and Dogecoin were among the cryptocurrencies accepted as a donation to support funding for Mozilla Firefox, one of the largest browsers in the world.

Mozilla community ended up not liking accepting donations, with co-founder Jamie Zawinski claiming that cryptocurrency investors are scammers.

Mozilla’s cryptocurrency adventure didn’t last even seven days. On January 6, 2021, the Mozilla Foundation backed out from its plans to accept donations in cryptocurrencies.

“Last week, we tweeted a reminder that Mozilla accepts cryptocurrency donations. This led to an important discussion about cryptocurrency’s environmental impact. We’re listening and taking action.”

In its explanation, the Mozilla Foundation claims that decentralization remains an important area and one that the company is exploring. However, the discussion in the Mozilla community made the foundation to suspend the acceptance of cryptocurrencies, as the climate issue gained momentum in their debate.

“So, starting today, we are reviewing if and how our current policy on crypto donations fits with our climate goals. And as we conduct our review, we will pause the ability to donate cryptocurrency.”

One of the cryptocurrencies that Mozilla would accept as a donation would be Dogecoin, a currency that is also mined in a similar way to Bitcoin, with ASICs and proof of work.

But dogecoin creator was not happy to see Mozilla suspending acceptance of Dogecoin and other cryptocurrencies. According to him, this behavior shows the ignorance of Mozilla for not understanding how cryptocurrencies work and how they consume energy.

In addition, Shibetoshi stated that bank donations are likely to use more energy than cryptocurrencies, but that sector has not been targeted by the hater community within the Mozilla foundation.

“Thank you for succumbing to an ignorant, reactionary internet mob wait till them guys hear about the environmental cost of paper dollars and the entire banking infrastructure; I am sure they will have the same level of meltdown about their constant environmental impact.”

Recently, a Bitcoin supporter Anthony Pompliano said ‘We Shouldn’t Apologize For Bitcoin’s Energy Usage, Crucial Things In World Use Energy.”

Anyway, when Tesla stopped accepting Bitcoin as a means of payment, one of the excuses used by Elon Musk was also related to the energy consumption of the currency, but on the other hand, Elon Declared Doge a better payment method than BTC and Confirmed Tesla would accept Dogecoin for Merchandise.
