5 Altcoins Under $1 To Watch Out For In 2023

XRP, ADA, SHIB, XTZ, and DOGE are worth keeping an eye on in 2023.

2022 has gone against the predictions of several industry pundits who expected crypto assets to continue to create new highs.

Notably, unfavorable macroeconomic conditions have led to significant losses for crypto investors. As veteran trader Peter Brandt asserted in October, every Bitcoin purchased in 2021 is in the red.

However, current market conditions also offer an opportunity for investors to pick up crypto assets related to promising projects at low prices. The Crypto Basic believes that the 5 crypto assets under $1 discussed below are worth keeping an eye on in 2023.

XRP

As recently highlighted by Attorney John Deaton, XRP has remained among the top 10 crypto assets by market cap for about a decade. The altcoin has been around since before the days of Ethereum. However, 2023 has the potential to be a memorable one for the altcoin.

Below are some major recent developments on the XRP Ledger and in the Ripple community

All of these developments have had little impact on the XRP price in the bear market. However, this narrative can easily change under more favorable conditions.

What’s more, XRP, unlike the rest of the tokens in the list, may not need a bull run to see a major price rally. This is because James K. Filan predicts that the judge will give her ruling in the nearly 2-year-long case between Ripple and the US Securities and Exchange Commission on or before the end of March 2023.

Notably, the legal battle has greatly impacted the adoption of XRP in the US, as several US exchanges thought it best to delist the token to avoid problems with regulators. Currently, XRP is trading at the $0.3536 price point, 89.6% below its all-time high of $3.40, formed in January 2018.

ADA

ADA is Cardano’s native token. Like the XRP, ADA is among the top 10 crypto assets by market cap. Like the XRPL, Cardano has undergone significant upgrades that have potentially not been priced in due to prevailing macroeconomic conditions.

As Hoskinson put it in September, the “sea of red” does not reflect the strength of Cardano. Below are some things going for the network.

  • A strong community following (MBLM ranked Cardano as the top crypto project by brand intimacy)
  • Improved smart contract and scaling capabilities thanks to the Vasil hard fork in September
  • Over 1000 decentralized applications in development (the network led others in development activity for several months in 2022)

ADA is currently trading at the $0.26716 price point, 91.4% below its all-time high of $3.09, formed in September 2021.

SHIB

SHIB or Shiba Inu is an ER20 token on the Ethereum network. Initially seen as a DOGE spin-off, the meme coin took the crypto world by storm in 2021, printing 45,000,000% gains within the year on the back of its strong community. However, developers are now building to shake the meme coin tag, creating utility for the project.

Below are some reasons to look out for the meme coin in 2023.

SHIB is trading at the $0.00000822 price point, 90.5% below its all-time high of $0.00008616, formed in October 2021.

XTZ

XTZ is the native token of the Tezos blockchain. The Tezos project is unique for several reasons. For one, the network can undergo forkless upgrades and has never experienced an exploit in its 4-year history.

While the crypto markets have been in bad shape, the project has invested in brand sponsorship deals to attract new crypto investors. In addition, it is also quietly seeing growing adoption.

XTZ is trading at the $0.864043 price point, down 90.62% from its all-time high of $9.12.

DOGE

Dogecoin is one of the most popular cryptocurrencies in the world and has served as the first cryptocurrency for many newcomers in the crypto space.

Last year, DOGE shocked the world and ran up to $0.73, fueled by Elon Musk’s tweets alone. Notably, with Elon Musk as the new Twitter chief, many Dogecoin holders expect some form of integration with the platform. Such expectations are not far-fetched, considering Musk’s long-standing romance with the meme coin.

DOGE is trading at the $0.077280 price point, down 89.4% from its all-time high of $0.731578.

Here’s How Much LUNC Must Be Burned For Price to Hit $0.01

0

An independent validator stated that the Terra Classic community needs to burn 2T LUNC to hit $0.01.

The Terra Classic community has continued to focus on reducing the supply of LUNC via burns to bolster the token’s price. In a recent tweet, @lunctts, the Twitter handle of an independent LUNC validator “LUNC To The Sun (LUNCTTS),” revealed the number of LUNC the community needs to incinerate to boost the token’s price to $0.01.

According to LUNCTTS, the Terra Classic community has to burn a whopping 2T LUNC, representing 30% of the supply, to achieve the price target of $0.01 per token. Per LUNCTTS’ analysis, burning 30% of LUNC supply will reduce the asset’s total supply to 4.81T. Furthermore, LUNCTTS eyes a market cap of $48B to enable LUNC to hit the $0.01 price target.

“LUNC COMUNNITY we have to burn 30% of $lunc to see it at $0,01 all together we can, but we all need to work for the same target, we need to focus on burns,” LUNCTTS noted in a tweet.

While the LUNC Classic validator understands the difficulty in achieving the goal, it stressed that hitting the target would require commitment from the entire Terra Classic community.

LUNC Holders Choose Staking

“LUNC To The Sun” further called on the community to make suggestions to accelerate the ongoing burn campaign.

Many enthusiasts suggested that LUNC staking would be the community’s best shot at reducing the circulating supply. However, LUNCTTS said staking is not a long-term solution to reducing the token’s supply, as users will eventually withdraw the cryptocurrency from these staking pools after 21 days.

In October, Terra Rebels, an independent group focused on revitalizing the Terra ecosystem, stated that there is a need to create utilities via decentralized applications to accelerate burns.

Ongoing LUNC Burn Campaign

According to data from LUNC Penguins, 36,008,682,310 (36B) LUNC have been incinerated from the supply. Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by 24-hour trading volume, has contributed immensely to the ongoing LUNC burn campaign. The exchange has successfully burned 20.1B LUNC via the fees obtained from LUNC trading activities.

LUNC burn tax; an initiative implemented to deduct 1.2% tax from all Terra Classic on-chain transactions, has also helped to reduce LUNC supply. Data from LUNC Penguins shows that the tax burn is responsible for the incineration of 11.12 billion LUNC.

Aside from Binance and Burn Tax, independent projects, including LUNCDAO, Terra Casino, and Luna Station 88, have supported Terra Classic’s burn campaign.

At press time, LUNC is down 8% in the past 24 hours, following a broad selloff in the crypto market. According to Coingecko data, LUNC is changing hands at $0.00014407.

XRP Declines by 7% as Updates on Ripple v SEC Stall

0

The lack of essential updates on the Ripple v SEC lawsuit has subjected XRP to the whims of the broader markets.

XRP, Ripple’s native token, has been subjected to the oscillations of the broader cryptocurrency market due to a deficiency of significant updates on the lawsuit between Ripple and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. This has subsequently led to a massive 7% decline in 24 hours, triggered by the generally bearish atmosphere surrounding digital assets.

Yesterday was especially unfavorable for XRP, as the asset crashed below the $0.35 level, leading to a low of $0.3478, which was last witnessed on November 21. The Crypto Basic previously highlighted the asset’s risk of revisiting $0.35 when it changed hands at $0.3819 following the end of a two-day winning streak. The Friday decline was XRP’s third losing session.

The U.S. Bearish Macro Conditions and the Mazars Group Report

The legal tussle between Ripple and the U.S. SEC has contributed to XRP’s price movements for some time. As it nears an end, updates on the lawsuit have stalled, with the next court session scheduled for December 22, on which omnibus motions will be filed by all parties to seal all the materials concerning the previously-filed summary judgment motions.

The days leading to the next court date have been filled with uncertainty that has subjected XRP to a bearish trajectory featured within the market. The macro conditions within the United States have not been favorable to the markets, as risk assets, including stocks and cryptocurrencies, have been underperforming in the wake of several inauspicious reports.

The Fed toned down on its interest rate hikes, but the recent 50 bps increase did not bode well for the markets. Recently-disclosed U.S. Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) numbers signaled more bad news for the economy, with recession fears emerging. In December, the PMI for S&P Global plummeted to a 4-month low, with the manufacturing index declining to a 31-month bottom.

Market-wide selloffs ensued yesterday, as the S&P 500 fell by 1.1% while the Nasdaq Composite index shed 1% of its value, signifying another losing session. The crypto markets followed suit, as most assets had their biggest 24-hour declines since November 9. Reports of Mazars Group deciding to stop auditing reports for crypto exchanges further exacerbated the situation. XRP was caught in this unpropitious bearing.

XRP’s Price Analysis

XRP’s third losing session of yesterday was its biggest 24-hour decline since the 17.94% fall on November 9 at the start of the FTX saga. The asset ended Friday with a 7.12% decline, resulting in a closing price of $0.3411. XRP has found some support from the bulls, gaining by 1.17% today, trading at $0.3552 as of press time.

The asset’s journey to the first crucial resistance level at $0.3728 is significantly hinged on its recapture of the pivot point at $0.3586. If the asset can reclaim $0.3650, it could be a bullish indication of enough strength to push further. In the event of sustained bullishness, XRP could gun for the second crucial resistance level at $0.3941. Should the asset successfully tower over the second resistance, $0.40 could play out, as its third significant resistance rests on $0.4296.

Notwithstanding, if the pivot point at $0.3586 is not reclaimed soon, XRP is at risk of tumbling to the first critical support at $0.3374. The market should avoid the territory below $0.33, as sustained selloffs could push the asset to the second support at $0.3232. The zone below $0.30 is not out of reach, with XRP’s third support sitting at $0.2877.

New API Feature Launches To Help Users Efficiently Track NFT Offers On XRP Ledger

0

Xrpl.Services rollout NFT offers tracking API.

Xrpl.Services (@XrplServices), a team focusing on building solutions for the XRP Ledger (XRPL), has rolled out a new API feature to help users efficiently track NFT offers.

Notably, the team disclosed this in a tweet on Tuesday. Per the tweet, users can track offers in real-time. It is a tool that will prove helpful to NFT traders and projects on the network.

The attached API documentation reveals that the Xrpl.Services NFT API is meant to complement those provided by RippeX developers and XRPL Labs. In other words, it provides additional functionality for users.

While there are paid models, the free version enables users to process ten requests per minute.

Recall that native NFT functionality went live on the XRPL Network at the end of October. While the XRPL is a late entrant in the NFT space, as explained in previous reports, it offers perks not found on other networks.

Adoption continues to rise as Bithomp data shows that users have minted over 642k NFTs since.

Terra Classic Core Developer Debunks Oracle Pool Doomsday Narrative, Proposes Solution To Concerns

0

Kim believes that the Oracle Pool will last longer than the 2-year window many predict.

In a Medium blog post released yesterday, Terra Classic core developer Edward Kim has debunked narratives that the Terra Classic network oracle pool will run out in 2 years.

The oracle pool’s largest holdings are 271 billion Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) and 930 million TerraClassicUSD (USTC), per data from Terra Finder. The predominant narrative within the Terra Classic community is that after 2 years, the network will exhaust this pool.

It raises concerns for the Terra Classic community because allocations from the oracle pool, which is no longer seeing inflows make up 99% of all staking rewards, as explained by Kim. Consequently, if nothing is done to remedy the situation, Validators will run at a loss, with no incentive to verify transactions or secure the chain, effectively breaking the network.

Kim Believes Predictions Of Terra Classic’s Death Are Greatly Exaggerated

According to the core developer, the situation “may not be as dire as we think.” While Kim says the Oracle pool will face a steep decline after the first year, he shares calculations and a chart distribution that shows that the pool will endure well beyond the set 2-year mark. But even in this instance, it would still see staking rewards drastically plummet, which could still make network validation unprofitable.

To this end, Kim proposes increasing gas fees, the other contributing component of staking rewards on the Terra Classic chain. Kim reveals that a 6000% increase in gas fees on the network will still leave fees below 1 penny. The developer posits that increased gas fees combined with a 500% increase in on-chain volume could see danger averted and validator profitability sustained.

Kim believes this increased on-chain volume can come when the network achieves parity with Luna v2. Notably, developers are hopeful that when the network achieves parity with other Cosmos chains, its budding community will be able to attract developers to build on and for the chain, creating more avenues for people to utilize their LUNC holdings on-chain.

In the blog post, Kim expressed confidence that the network can achieve this by the end of next year.

Community Response

The ideas expounded by Kim have received largely positive responses. It bears mentioning, though, that some people are less optimistic.

LunaVShape (@LunaVShape), who handles marketing and strategy for the LunaPunks NFT project expressing support for the idea, noted that the community should pass a vote to increase the gas fees.

Community influencer Classy (@ClassyCrypto_) described the article as “wonderful,” calling Kim the “GOAT” (Greatest Of All Time).

However, as highlighted above, not everyone was as excited. LUNC DAO CTO 0xEars (@0x_Ears), who had posted a thread nearly two weeks ago on the network’s imminent threat with the depleting Oracle pool, expressed the opinion that Kim’s plan of staking it all on achieving parity with Luna v2 was not ideal. According to 0xEars, Terraform Labs is more efficient than all the Terra Classic developer groups combined. Consequently, he does not see the network catching up in time, especially considering that these networks will only continue to advance.

0xEars, in his thread on the threat the community faces, championed the idea of developers focusing on finding and building a protocol-owned chain that will attract mass adoption and generate revenue for the chain to support validator fees.

Interchain Station Update

Meanwhile, in the medium blog post, Kim also details how developers planned to make the network compatible with the TFL Interchain Station.

Recall that on December 6, The Crypto Basic reported that the Terra Classic network would likely lose TFL Terra Station support. This is because TFL is working to transition Terra Station to an Interchain Station that will support all chains in the Cosmos ecosystem.

However, as outlined by TFL, the Terra Classic had to perform several upgrades and carry out a blockchain address prefix change to be compatible. While TFL has found a way to provide Terra Station support for Terra Classic, the chain remains incompatible with the Interchain Station.

Kim addressing the issue listed 19 upgrades that developers had to perform first. In addition, noting the risks of changing the address prefix, Kim says that developers and TFL are taking an active approach to find a solution that does not require this change.

Main Reasons Of Market Selloff As Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP Extend Losses

The broader crypto market remains bearish as top assets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP, print consecutive losing candles.

The cryptocurrency scene has been plagued by a series of black swan events since May, making several market watchers believe this represents the worst market year. The bearish climate remains prevalent, exacerbated by the recent FTX collapse and macroeconomic conditions.

This has led to persistent losses for most top assets, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and XRP (XRP). While trade volume has increased by 51.78% in the past 24 hours to $50.69B, the global crypto market capitalization currently sits at $804.99B, marking a 5.36% decline in a day, per data from CMC. This indicates an increase in market-wide selloffs as investors resort to capitulation.

The Effects of the Mazars Group News and the U.S. Macro Atmosphere

Sentiments play a crucial role in market movements, and the cryptocurrency scene’s recent gloomy bearing is a testament to that. Following the FTX collapse that led to losses to the tune of billions, investors’ confidence declined drastically, leading to a wave of capitulation influenced by fear of massive declines. This capitulation moves further empowered the bears as assets plummeted to lower lows.

The market has not had the time to recover, as the after-effects of the FTX fall remain prevalent. Confidence in centralized exchanges has waned, leading to further scrutiny and a subsequent wave of FUD at the slightest sign of insolvency. Binance had been put in the spotlight, and despite proving that it is not insolvent, the FUD surrounding the world’s largest exchange lingers, leading some to believe it is a paid campaign.

Mazars Group, the global auditing firm that handled the Proof of Reserves audits for notable exchanges such as Binance, Crypto.com, and Huobi, has erased records of their PoR audits for the crypto exchanges and announced a decision not to be involved in the crypto scene. This has exacerbated the whole bearish atmosphere. Mazars Group revealed that the decision is influenced by how the public perceives the reports.

The macroeconomic climate within the U.S. has also not been favorable. Despite the recent ease witnessed within the economic scene of late, recession fears remain dominant. The Fed has slowed down in its interest rate hikes, increasing the interest rate by 50 bps this week, but risk assets have not responded favorably. The stock market, in particular, is experiencing its worst year since 2008, with several indexes plummeting to record lows. The crypto scene has not been spared in the onslaught.

Bitcoin

Following a promising performance on Wednesday that led to a high of $18,318, BTC faced a fierce resistance triggered at the zone above $18K, causing a correction that brought the asset to a two-week low of $16,600 today. The crash on Wednesday resulted in two consecutive losing sessions, as BTC declined by 2.51% on Thursday and 4.17% on Friday. The Friday dip marked BTC’s most significant 24-hour decline in over a month since the 14% crash on November 9 at the early stage of the FTX collapse.

Despite gaining by a meager 0.47% today, the asset remains below the $17K zone, currently trading at $16,731 as of press time. To push through to the first crucial resistance at $17,274, the asset needs to reclaim and hold above the $16,912 pivot point. BTC’s second crucial resistance sits at $17,906 if the bulls receive support from good reports within the space.

Notwithstanding, sustained bearishness could see the asset fall to the first significant support level at $16,280. If BTC doesn’t recapture and hold above the pivot point, this will become a reality. The asset currently trades at $16,750 as of press time, down 4.22% in the past 24 hours. The BTC Fear and Greed Index is currently 28, indicating Fear.

Ethereum

Ethereum (ETH) has not shown as much resistance to the bears as BTC, printing its third consecutive losing candle yesterday. The asset declined by 1% on Wednesday and shed its gains by 3.13% and 7.87% on Thursday and Friday, respectively. The Friday loss also represents ETH’s largest 24-hour decline since the 17.39% fall on November 9.

Following a decline to $1,161, ETH relied on some newly-found support to stage a 1.35% recovery today. Currently trading at $1,183, ETH’s hopes to reach the first resistance level at $1,246 are hinged on the reclamation of the $1,201 pivot point. Recapturing the $1,200 zone is likely to stir excitement in the bulls. If the momentum is sustained, the asset could reach its second resistance point at $1,325.

However, if ETH fails to reclaim the pivot point, it could be battered to the first support level at $1,122. Avoiding the territory below $1,100 is crucial for Ethereum’s price movement, as failure would see the second crucial support at $1,077 play out. ETH’s third support is at $953.

XRP

Unlike most other top assets, XRP’s price movements are not solely tied to the broader crypto climate and macroeconomic conditions. Updates on the litigation between Ripple and the U.S. SEC are crucial to the asset’s price actions. Notwithstanding, when the XRP camp is subjected to a dearth of updates on the lawsuit, the asset has been left to the swings of the broader market. The next court session is slated for December 22.

XRP, like ETH and most assets, saw its third consecutive losing session on Friday after ending the day with a massive decline of 7.12%. This loss followed a 1.89% fall on Thursday and a 2.51% decline on Wednesday. The asset began today on promising grounds, having gained by 1.14%.

At a current value of $0.3556, XRP has to push through to the pivot price point at $0.3586 to soar to its first resistance level of $0.3728. If the asset can conquer the first resistance zone, the $0.38 level could come into play if momentum is sustained, which would be a bullish level to catapult XRP to the second crucial resistance at $0.3941. Should this materialize, $0.40 could be reclaimed, as the third resistance remains at $0.4296.

If the pivot price point is not recaptured, the bears could take XRP down to the first support zone at $0.3374. If the bulls don’t act quickly, a decline below the $0.33 level would be ultra bearish, as the asset’s next support level comes in at $0.3232. If this is broken, XRP could go below $0.30, leaving its third support at $0.2877.

It bears mentioning that Guarda’s Prepaid Visa card was launched on August 14, 2022. Guarda noted that its crypto cards could be used to make payments in any store that accepts Visa.

“Guarda Wallet is thrilled to announce the release of its own prepaid Visa card. You can use this card anywhere Visa is accepted, which means you can use it for online shopping, in-store purchases, and much more,” the company noted.

The Guarda crypto card comes in two forms – physical and virtual. While users can generate the virtual card through the Guarda app, the physical card will be sent to the user’s residence.

Shiba Inu Use in Payments

Meanwhile, the development further increases SHIB’s use in payment. Recall that several crypto companies, including BitPay and Binance, have also rolled out support for Shiba Inu to enable crypto community members to make payments for goods and services using SHIB.

As reported by TheCryptoBasic, SHIB holders can use the cryptocurrency to pay for web services from top merchants, including Namecheap, HOSTKEY, and Vultr. Furthermore, businesses can pay their employees with Shiba Inu, thanks to BitPay.

“We’re excited to carry on your passion and bring your vision into the next collections to build a great community and grow together,” Richmond said.

Shiba Inu Enthusiasts Suggestions

John Richmond’s appreciative tweet to members of the Shiba Inu community comes days after the prominent fashion designer requested ideas from crypto and fashion enthusiasts to improve the quality of its brand.

Members of the SHIBArmy took advantage of the opportunity to suggest ideas that would further promote global interest in Shiba Inu. A Twitter user asked John Richmond to design a basic Shiba Inu-themed T-shirt with the JR logo. The user further requested that John Richmond make four designs, each focusing on Shiba Inu-related assets, including Shiboshi, LEASH, BONE, and Metaverse Land.

Responding to the request, the fashion brand said it likes the idea of designing a SHIB-themed T-shirt with the JR logo, adding that the fashion brand has commenced work on the design.

Another Shiba Inu enthusiast suggested that John Richmond design Shiboshi-themed accessories, including umbrellas, socks, ties, etc. The fashion brand said it liked the idea and would consider the suggestion in future designs.

It bears mentioning that John Richmond is the official partner of the Shiba Inu clothing line. The duo inked a partnership deal earlier this year to design SHIB-themed apparel. Some Shiba Inu-themed clothes designed by John Richmond were showcased during Milan Fashion Week in September.

Although these SHIB-themed designs are not yet available for public purchase, John Richmond is still seeking inspiration to improve the Shiba Inu clothing line.

According to Wikipedia John Richmond brand is used by “Stewart, Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Kim Kardashian, Dita Von Teese, Kate Moss, Kaya Jones, Lukas Menzel, Nico Züchner, and also Lady Gaga.”

Cardano Founder Says He’ll No Longer Comment On XRP

0

Hoskinson said he would no longer talk about XRP following the constant criticism from community members.

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has asserted that he will no longer answer XRP-related questions after the XRP community harassed him over a rumor about a December 15 settlement.

During a December 10 AMA session, Hoskinson said he learned from a reliable source that the SEC and Ripple would reach a possible settlement on December 15. Hoskinson’s comment brought smiles to the faces of many XRP investors, who were anticipating the end of the lawsuit. Unfortunately, the lawsuit was not resolved as rumored, with aggrieved XRP enthusiasts trolling Hoskinson.

Hoskinson’s Response to XRP Critics

Commenting on the criticism, Cardano’s founder said he does not know how to interact with the XRP community because his comments about the project always get misinterpreted.

Hoskinson said he spoke about a possible settlement between Ripple and the SEC after a participant in the AMA session asked what he would do if the regulators tag ADA as a security. While answering the question, Hoskinson referred to the Ripple lawsuit, which he believes is an industry-wide concern and will play a role in determining the legal classification of cryptos. Based on the importance of the Ripple case to the industry, he revealed the December 15 settlement rumor he learned from a reliable source.

He added that the XRP community and the media twisted the comment to make it seem like it is something he believes.

“[…] Many people in both the XRP community and in the media decided to take that comment as Charles Hoskinson believes the case is going to get settled on December 15th. After it didn’t get resolved, I was accused of lying, and I was accused of yet again creating a FUD and trolling,” he said.

No Comments On XRP

Hoskinson said he had supported Ripple and XRP even before the lawsuit. The Cardano founder said he does not believe XRP is security despite the SEC allegations. Despite supporting Ripple in the lawsuit, Hoskinson said the XRP community has continued to mock and brutalize him over his comments about Ripple.

“At this juncture, given what’s happened, I’m not going to answer any questions about XRP in any circumstances. I’m not going to mention the project. I’m not going to talk about anything going on after there is a resolution of the XRP case. I’m not even going to discuss that if asked in the future. I’m just going to say no comments,” Hoskinson said.
