Binance.US Launches Staking for VeChain (VET)

0

Binance.US has added support for VeChain staking.

The United States arm of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, Binance.US, has announced that it has launched staking for the VeChain token (VET). According to a recent announcement, Binance.US customers who stake their VET will earn 1% APY, which will be paid in VeThor (VTHO).

Binance.US noted that the staking rewards for VET would be paid out weekly. In addition, there is no mandatory lock-up period for VET staking, as customers can unlock their staked funds whenever they choose without incurring any fee.

“Binance.US customers can now buy, sell, convert, or stake VET, and also buy, sell, and convert VTHO” the exchange added.

Pushing Widespread Blockchain Adoption

VeChain is currently among the top cryptocurrency projects. Launched in 2018, the VeChainThor blockchain was forked from Ethereum. One of the main ideas behind the development of the network is to roll out architectural upgrades that would boost the adoption of blockchain technology with the main purpose of enhancing supply chain management and business processes.

So far, VeChain has made tremendous progress in solving real-world economic problems. Several firms have leveraged VeChain tech for different purposes. As reported by TheCryptoBasic, VeChain partnered with OrionOne, a U.S.-based logistics company, to drive the widespread adoption of blockchain technology among logistics companies.

Last month, VeChain also ventured into another partnership with UCO Network to convert used cooking oil into sustainable biofuels in Europe.

Furthermore, VeChain recently partnered with Venice Sustainable Fashion Forum in a collaboration that will drive sustainability in fashion supply chains.

Despite operating a two-token model (VET and VTHO), VeChain disclosed that it has huge stakes in other cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and stablecoins.

Cardano Founder Says ‘We Ignore The Noise And Make Our Own Path’

Cardano Founder Says ‘We Make Our Own Path’ In Response To Being Omitted From Coindesk Most Influential List Again.

Hoskinson is not surprised that CoinDesk does not recognize him among the influential voices in crypto.

In a tweet today, Cardano’s Charles Hoskinson asserted that he was not surprised that CoinDesk had snubbed him in the making of its 100 most influential in crypto this year. Instead, the Cardano founder asserted, “We make our own path.”

The sentiment came in response to a tweet from an ADA enthusiast who expressed shock at Hoskinson not being included, calling the list a “joke.”

It bears mentioning that Hoskinson has never been included in the poll in its at least 8-year-long history. Meanwhile, it is no surprise for the Cardano founder, who believes that the news outlet is biased against the Cardano community.

“I’m not sure what the criteria are but I guess those people are much more influential.”

Hoskinson, who is no stranger to trolling the news outlet as a simple search of his Twitter account will reveal, has often griped about the non-existent, negative, or misleading coverage of Cardano by CoinDesk. Interestingly, in July last year, the news outlet opted to publish an opinion piece suggesting that the efforts of Input Output Global (IOG), the development team behind Cardano, in Africa were exploitative and akin to colonialism.

To be fair to the Cardano enthusiast who expressed shock at Hoskinson’s exclusion, it is worth noting that Cardano ranked as the number 1 crypto brand in MBLM’s brand intimacy report in front of Bitcoin. Consequently, it is surprising that neither Hoskinson nor IOG got a mention.

There appear to be other shocking omissions from the list, like Binance’s Changpeng Zhao and FTX’s Sam Bankman-Fried. But, they have arguably been very influential in the current bear market cycle.

CoinDesk’s list contains nearly 100 names cutting across industry leaders, influencers, policymakers, and movie stars. Notably, there is a section where voters can write names they believe have been missed.

South Africa Set to Treat Bitcoin and Other Crypto as Financial Products

0

Bitcoin and other crypto assets will be regarded as financial products in South Africa as the country attempts to regulate cryptocurrencies.

Regulation of the nascent cryptocurrency industry remains challenging to several countries due to its infancy and intricacies. Some nations, such as China, have resorted to restricting the use of cryptocurrencies, while others put in efforts to leverage the industry for economic growth through proper regulation.

South Africa is one step ahead in its journey towards regulating the cryptocurrency scene, as a recent declaration regards Bitcoin and other crypto assets as financial products. The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) of South Africa recently published a notice in this regard.

The South African FSCA regulates the financial markets in South Africa. The General Notice published Wednesday informed the public of the FSCA’s declaration of crypto assets as financial products under the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act of 2002.

This move from South Africa indicates that the country will start regulating all crypto assets, including Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH), as every other financial product, subjecting them to provisions of the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act of 2002.

For clarification, the FSCA revealed three different criteria that would qualify an instrument as a crypto asset. The agency described crypto assets as:

“a digital representation of value that –

(a) is not issued by a central bank, but is capable of being traded, transferred or stored electronically by natural and legal persons for the purpose of payment, investment and other forms of utility;

(b) applies cryptographic techniques; and

(c) uses distributed ledger technology.”

According to the FSCA, the declaration’s provisions are to take effect on the date of the notice’s publication, October 19. The decision brings South Africa closer to achieving regulatory clarity on cryptocurrencies.

Whether this declaration will foster the growth of cryptocurrencies in the country or not remains to be seen. Notwithstanding, it should aid the authorities by providing a more concrete framework for proper consumer protection, as the country is in dire need of that, considering the surging adoption rate.

A Finder’s report on crypto ownership by country in September ranked South Africa 18th out of 26 surveyed countries on crypto adoption rate, with individuals aged 18 to 34 years representing 43% of South African cryptocurrency owners.

The report notes that the crypto ownership rate in the country sits at 10%. Nevertheless, in 2020 when cryptocurrencies saw one of the highest influx of users, the Global Web Index highlighted that an estimated 15% of South Africa’s population invested in BTC.

Top Latin America Fintech Bank to Launch Its Cryptocurrency

0

Nubank will launch the cryptocurrency in the first half of next year.

Nubank, a top fintech bank in Latin America, has announced that it will soon launch its cryptocurrency in Brazil by next year. The financial institution stated that the cryptocurrency dubbed Nucoin will roll out in the first half of 2023.

According to a press release published by CNBC, Nubank described Nucoin as an instrument it intends to use to recognize customers’ loyalty, thus, increasing their engagement with the bank’s products and services, the announcement adds.

Commenting on the development, Fernando Czapski, General Manager for Nucoin at Nubank, said:

“The project is another step ahead in our belief in the transformative potential of blockchain technology and to democratize it, even more, going beyond the purchase, sale, and maintenance of cryptocurrencies in the Nu app.”

Nubank’s cryptocurrency is being developed by multiple parties, including some customers from the bank. Per the announcement, 2,000 customers from the bank will be invited to participate in a forum that is essentially created for the development of Nucoin.

Nubank noted that its upcoming cryptocurrency would comply with existing anti-money laundering practices.

Nucoin is built on Polygon, a layer-2 scaling Ethereum scaling solution. The cryptocurrency’s value will be determined by the forces of demand and supply, just like other top crypto assets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Matic.

Banks Foray Into the Crypto Space

The announcement marks the latest entrance of traditional financial institutions into the cryptocurrency industry. The development is not the first time a bank will launch a digital currency. In 2020, American multinational bank JPMorgan Chase launched its stablecoin dubbed JPMCoin.

Aside from launching cryptocurrencies, several traditional financial institutions are heavily linked to the world of cryptos.

While banks are trooping into the crypto sector, global regulators are still skeptical about the emerging assets as they continue establishing policies that will safeguard the existing financial system.

Based on regulators’ scrutiny of crypto offerings, CNBC asked a spokesperson for Nubank whether the bank had received regulatory clearance before developing Nucoin.

“… we constantly evaluate the regulatory framework as an important part of our product development process,” a spokesperson for Nubank told CNBC.

Nubank’s Dominance in Latin America

Launched in 2013, Nubank is a fintech bank headquartered in São Paulo, Brazil. As of last year, Nubank has a total of 6,068 employees hired to serve over 70 million customers in Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia.

Some of Nubank’s investors include Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, which invested $500 million in the bank. Nubank is currently valued at $20.4 billion in the stock market.

Aptos (APT) Sees Soaring Social Dominance Despite Rocky Start

Aptos (APT) dominates social trend tables despite its bumpy start.

FTX-backed project Aptos saw a not-so-welcoming atmosphere following the launch of its token APT. Due to growing security concerns surrounding its airdrop and a subsequent price dip, the community has not favorably received the advent of the asset.

Notwithstanding, it appears there is a silver lining to the rising inauspicious sentiments, as Aptos is currently experiencing a massive rise in social dominance, highlighted by Lunar Crush – a crypto social intelligence provider.

“Aptos came out of nowhere and is trending hard.” Lunar Crush remarked in a tweet on Wednesday.

Details show a tremendous increase in Apto’s social activity in less than 24 hours. Data from the Lunar Crush dashboard reveals over 9K contributors in Aptos’ social activity, indicating a 30,503% increase in the past 24 hours.

Additionally, social mentions of Aptos within the crypto community have surged by a whopping 121,650% in the past 24 hours to a value of 131.49K as of press time. Furthermore, Aptos social engagements have hit a massive value of 271.45M. Aptos’ Galaxy Score on the Lunar Crush platform has also increased by 7% in the past 24 hours, as the asset rises to a score of 43/100.

Aptos is trending on Twitter in the business and finance category with 219K tweets.

Since Aptos’ surging social dominance is not an automatic indication of a positive outlook on the asset, it will likely bring the token more mainstream attention and increase investor interest.

Amidst the growing concerns within the Aptos ecosystem, The Crypto Basic recently reported shocking data involving the asset. A new mysterious batch of Aptos tokens was recently minted across multiple chains, including Binance Smart Chain and Ethereum.

In addition to previous reports of selloffs prompted by the sudden release of huge Airdrop to early adopters, this has likely contributed to Aptos’ current trend.

VeChain Announces Partnership With Venice Sustainable Fashion Forum

0

VeChain has bagged yet another partnership in Europe, this time in fashion.

Leading enterprise Layer 1 blockchain, VeChain, has announced in a tweet today a partnership with Venice Sustainable Fashion Forum to drive sustainability in fashion supply chains, starting with an event in Venice.

“We’re excited to partner with the Venice Sustainable Fashion Forum to help drive sustainability in fashion supply chains alongside major global brands & our key channel partner @DNV_Group,” tweeted VeChain.

The event’s focus in Venice will be the future of sustainability in the fashion supply chain and, with VeChain’s partnership, how blockchain can accelerate that development. It is worth noting that VeChain has been using its blockchain to support clients looking to move towards more sustainable practices.

“We aim to support clients moving towards more sustainable and measurable practices,” said Sunny Lu, CEO of VeChain, in a shared video by The European House Ambrosetti.

Notably, the latest announcement has been well received by the VeChain community. Moreover, VeChain executive Sarah Nabaa asserted that fashion houses needed to be more transparent and conscious about their missions. According to the executive, VeChain and its partners had the required tools to help the industry do just that.

It bears mentioning that the blockchain continues expanding its physical presence in Europe. The foundation had announced its expansion into Europe by establishing two new facilities in the region, citing this as the reason for the uptick in legal fees as it increased legal consultation to finalize its new European headquarters.

Notably, in its unrelenting bid to bring a sustainability revolution to Europe, the enterprise blockchain partnered with UCO to transform cooking oil into biofuel last month – great use for a common waste product, as reported by The Crypto Basic.

Someone Paid 121 Ethereum As Fee For a Single Transaction

0

An unidentified entity has just paid a gas fee of 121 ETH ($157K) for a single transaction on the Ethereum chain.

One of the major selling points of cryptocurrencies is the promise of low transaction costs compared to what is obtainable with traditional finance. Notwithstanding, certain entities transacting in cryptocurrencies are willing to pay above-normal rates for priority treatment. This pattern is usually involved with certain whale transactions.

Recently, the crypto community witnessed one of the largest gas fees paid for in a single transaction on the Ethereum blockchain. A fee of 121.56 ETH, worth $157,764 against prevailing rates, was just paid for a single transaction, as revealed by Whale Alert Wednesday.

” A fee of 121 ETH (157,764 USD) has just been paid for a single transaction!” Whale Alert disclosed in a recent tweet, sharing a link to the transaction details.

Since the transaction fee with the Txn Hash 0x4a84d0872887f91546cd5400cf99763b654975efb3376ee55e4463bcfbca4e97 can be tracked on Etherscan, the very nature of the transaction itself and the entity behind it remains a mystery. For transferring 183 Ethereum, a fee of 121 ETH was deducted.

121 ETH fees paid
121 ETH fees paid

Details, however, confirm that the transaction occurred on October 19, 1:29:59 PM (UTC+1). The sheer magnitude of the fee paid has raised concerns amongst proponents. Several individuals wondered who was willing to pay or was any kind of blockchain error resulted in paying up to $157K as a fee for a single transaction.

Despite the shocking nature of the cost of such a seemingly inconsequential transaction, there had in the past been certain occasions where investors transacting on a chain inadvertently paid high gas fees for small transactions.

These occurrences had either been attributed to mistakes on the individuals’ part or a blockchain error. Notwithstanding, following Ethereum’s full-blown transition to PoS, this is the first time the community is witnessing this occurrence.

However, critics will use the opportunity to highlight Ethereum’s transaction cost, making known their advocacy for other chains such as Solana and Cardano, which promise lowered fees compared to Ethereum’s and are often touted as Ethereum Killers.

Mysterious Batch of Aptos (APT) Tokens Minted on Ethereum And Binance Chain

0

A fresh mysterious batch of Aptos (APT) tokens have been recently minted across multiple chains, including ETH and BSC.

The team behind the Aptos project has not witnessed the envisioned reception from the crypto community following the launch of the Aptos (APT) token. The advent of the token has been riddled with a massive epidemic of FUD influenced by worrisome factors surrounding the launch and the airdrop.

These concerns have led to selloffs that have negatively impacted the price of the asset. Nevertheless, it appears the FUD is far from reaching its terminus, as a recent occurrence has precipitated new concerns relating to the project.

It appears an unidentified entity has created a batch of numerous APT tokens across several chains, as detected and reported by blockchain security firm Peck Shield. The chains that have so far welcomed this new batch of APT include Binance Smart Chain (BSC), Ethereum (ETH), Arbitrum (ARB) and Fantom (FTM); with BSC and ETH seeing the majority of tokens.

“#PeckShieldAlert PeckShield has detected a batch of #APTOS #APT are newly created on multichains e.g. Ethereum and BSC,” Peck Shield disclosed in a tweet Wednesday, reporting the development.

Furthermore, it was also revealed that the majority of the newly-created APT tokens do not have trading pairs yet at the time of reporting. Additionally, one of the tokens’ contract 0xa4ceacd24ac61cc9bd434710cdb7a9cb078e9eed appears to be a honeypot. This should intensify the sense of vigilance already felt among proponents.

Considering the recent storm of scams ravaging the crypto community, and the lack of security awareness from the Aptos team, these newly-created tokens have been summarily tagged by many as part of a broader scam stratagem from unscrupulous individuals.

The existence of a honeypot amongst the contracts further confirms this assertion. A honeypot is a smart contract with more than one vulnerability used by bad actors to lure victims into losing their funds.

The originator exposes one vulnerability which lures the arbitrary user (victim) into putting their funds to exploit the exposed vulnerability. The funds are subsequently locked and milked through other vulnerabilities the victim remained oblivious of.

The information from Peck Shield’s recent report has contributed to another wave of uncertainty amongst APT holders. Several proponents, replying to the Peck Shield tweet, have advised the community to short the asset as they envision a likely crash.

Notwithstanding, all these are indeed speculations at this time, and the fate of APT remains unknown amidst these unpropitious conditions. Peck Shield highlighted that the asset had already shed 33% of its value at the time of the report.

Recall that the asset came off to a challenging start following its launch. The Crypto Basic recently shared insight on the possible causes of the project’s woes which include a lack of proper security awareness regarding its airdrop, as the team launched an airdrop without provisions of a Sybil attack protection.

As a consequence, several users resorted to selloffs the minute they could trade off their holdings. A user previously sold over 189K APT, causing a massive negative impact on the asset. In addition to this, the chain appears to be delivering less than promised, as the community witnesses a discouraging average of 4 TPS, as opposed to the expected 100K TPS.

48,000 Bitcoin Moved From Coinbase – Is Tesla On The Receiving End?

0

Is Tesla Behind The $48,000 Bitcoin (BTC) Moved From Coinbase Yesterday? This CryptoQuant Analyst Thinks So.

Bitcoin purchased from Coinbase Pro is eerily similar in value to the amount of Bitcoin sold by Tesla in Q2 2022.

The Crypto Basic reported yesterday that 48k BTC worth about  $940 million had been moved from Coinbase Pro. In a tweet today, Maartun, the CryptoQuant analyst who first reported the move, expressed optimism that Tesla may be the company behind the move.

As highlighted by Maartun, Tesla in July had reported selling $936 million worth of Bitcoin in Q2 2022. Notably, the value closely resembles the value of Bitcoin reported to have moved from Coinbase Pro yesterday. Whatever the case, we will likely find out as Tesla is set to publish its earnings report today.

Notably, following the disclosure that the firm had sold about 75% of its Bitcoin holdings in July, Tesla chief Elon Musk asserted that the company would still buy more in the future.

It is worth noting that the latest huge Bitcoin purchase has occurred at a significant price level for institutional investors, as highlighted by CryptoQuant CEO Ki Young Ju. Young Ju, earlier in October, noted that it was a level historically favored by institutional customers of Coinbase.

While this price level is not necessarily significant to Tesla, who initially made their $1.5 billion purchase in early 2021 when the asset traded above the $30k price point, it is worth noting that Coinbase’s institutional arm serviced the purchase, as per a report from The Block.

If the latest speculation by Maartun is proven true, it could lead to a huge bullish momentum for the leading crypto asset. Remarkably, the revelation of Tesla’s Bitcoin purchase last year sent Bitcoin to new highs above $44k.

It is worth noting that there is still no certainty that it was not an internal movement of assets by Coinbase. Still, analysts believe the data is pointing more toward an institutional purchase.

Ripple Moves 75 Million XRP, as Big Investors Shuffle 120 Million XRP

Ripple makes a hefty XRP transfer.

Leading blockchain company Ripple made a hefty transfer of XRP to an unknown wallet less than 10 hours ago. According to Whale Alert, a popular cryptocurrency data platform that monitors these huge transactions, Ripple transferred a whopping 75 million XRP to an unknown wallet. The fund was worth $35 million at the time of the transaction.

Details of the Ripple Wallet

Per data from Bithomp Explorer, one of the leading explorers on the XRP Ledger, the Ripple address that sent the fund has been used to shift huge volumes of XRP in recent times. Before yesterday’s transaction, the address had shifted a total of 123 million XRP, valued at around $60 million at the current exchange rate of $0.45. These large XRP transfers made by Ripple are mainly used to meet the demands of On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) solution clients.

As stated by Ripple in its Q2 financial report, there has been a surging demand for the company’s ODL solution, as traditional financial institutions use the service for instant cross-border settlements. Ripple’s ODL uses XRP as a bridge currency for cross-border settlements.

With a growth in demand for the solution, Ripple disclosed that it sometimes purchases XRP from secondary markets to serve its clients effectively.

Other Large XRP Movements

Aside from Ripple’s transfer of 75 million XRP to an unknown user, Whale Alert noted that whale investors shifted a total of 158.7 million XRP over the past 24 hours.

An anonymous whale withdrew a total of 32,303,676 XRP, worth $14.87 million, from the leading cryptocurrency exchange FTX.

Similarly, an anonymous whale transferred a hefty 66.4 million XRP ($30.88 million) from Bitso, Ripple’s ODL solution partner.

Sixty million XRP coins were also deposited on Bitso by an unknown whale, the cryptocurrency tracking service reported.

As reported by The Crypto Basic about 14 hours ago, anonymous Whales moved 170M Ripple (XRP).
