Vitalik Buterin Calls Out Long-Time Bitcoin Developer For His Attacks Against The PoS Consensus Mechanism

Vitalik Buterin Calls Out Long-Time Bitcoin Developer For His Attacks Against The PoS Consensus Mechanism.

Vitalik Buterin, in a tweet on Sunday, faulted arguments by Bitcoin evangelist and contributor Jimmy Song that Proof-of-Stake is a worse consensus system because of how it addresses the Byzantine Generals Problem.

“Pro-tip: if there’s a long-established tradition of people debating A vs B based on deep arguments touching on math, economics and moral philosophy, and you come along saying ‘B is dumb because of a one-line technicality involving definitions’, you’re probably wrong,” tweeted the Ethereum founder.

It is worth noting that the Byzantine Generals Problem plagues several systems that require consensus to operate, including finance. By definition, it presents itself where multiple actors must agree for a system to work, but these actors can not trust each other.

Notably, Bitcoin is touted as the first to tackle this issue using an immutable public ledger, cryptography, and the energy-intensive Proof-of-Work system disincentivizing bad actors. Consequently, people can safely conduct transactions as they trust the blockchain without needing to trust each other or a central authority susceptible to corruption in traditional finance.

Since Bitcoin’s creation, other consensus models have also been created to solve this problem, replacing miners with validators who stake their crypto to validate transactions on the network and risk losing them for trying to deceive the system. While the Proof-of-Stake and Delegated Proof-of-Stake models have proven to be less energy-intensive, Bitcoin maximalists like Song believe none offers the same level of security as Bitcoin.

It is worth noting that Ethereum, Buterin’s brainchild, is scheduled to migrate to PoS later this year in the face of rising energy and scalability concerns. The long-anticipated merge is billed to tackle issues of high transaction cost and scalability plaguing the DeFi King.

As reported by The Crypto Basic, the timeline for the merge has faced a slight delay with the announcement of the Gray Glacier upgrade, which delays the difficulty bomb (which will encourage miners to move to PoS) by 100 days.

Meanwhile, Ethereum whales and sharks have been aggressively accumulating the asset as they expect a huge price rally from the merge mainnet launch. The Ropsten testnet has already merged with the Beacon chain (Ethereum’s PoS chain).

SHIB Army Destroys 132.88 Million Shiba Inu (SHIB) in the Past 24 Hours, 1.31 Billion In A Week, and 190 BONE Tokens.

Shiba Inu (SHIB) reclaimed the burning of 1 billion SHIB tokens in a week as TheCryptoBasic reported last week Shib army burned only 565M coins, but this week Over 1.31 Billion canine-themed tokens have been eradicated, and 132.88 million in the past 24 hours.

Data from the tracking platform Shibburn shows that over 1.31 Billion Shiba Inu tokens have been taken out of circulation forever in the past week with 121 separate transactions. 1CENT, one of the tokens dedicated to burning SHIB, also destroyed 190 Bone ShibaSwap, the governance token of the Shiba Inu ecosystem, in one significant transaction.

Travis Johnson’s SHIB Super Store and 1Cent token are among the prominent SHIB Burners project. Travis Johnson’s SHIB Super Store has sent 51.12 million SHIB to the “inferno” address this week, becoming the biggest SHIB Burner of the week.

1Cent, a token dedicated to burning Shiba Inu and Bone ShibaSwap, stood second in the list of biggest SHIB Burners of the week. 1Cent token organized its Weekly Burn Event on Tuesday, June 28th. The team behind the 1Cent token sent 39,607,555 (39.60M) SHIB to a dead wallet through one transaction. At the same time, the project carried out another noticeable transaction and incinerated a total of 190 Bone.

Past 24-Hour Burn:

Besides weekly burns, a total of 132,886,347 (132.88M) SHIB tokens have been permanently removed from circulation through 17 separate transactions in the past 24 hours with the help of the SHIB Burn Portal, Shibburn.com reports.

Cardano Founder Calls for Patience Amid Growing Frustration With ADA’s Price

Charles Hoskinson says ADA will establish its worth soon as Cardano continues to bolster its utility and help more people.

Many investors are not impressed with the current price of ADA, the native cryptocurrency of Cardano, and have continued to vent their frustrations across various social media platforms.

Heightened Investors’ Frustration

ADA, which spiked to a high of $3.1 in November 2021, has dipped more than 85% till date, plunging many investors into significant losses.

The cryptocurrency is trading at $0.44 across major crypto exchanges, including Binance, and KuCoin, among others.

While many investors are still optimistic that ADA prices will soon rally again in the near future, others do not seem to have much patience as they want the cryptocurrency to give them nice gains as soon as possible.

Hoskinson: Boosting Cardano’s Utility Will Boost ADA Price

Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, has sent a message to investors who are eager to make fast gains on ADA.

Hoskinson noted in an interview with the London media outlet City AM that the best way Cardano can bolster the value of ADA is by solving real-world problems and increasing the blockchain’s utility.

He highlighted Cardano’s main focus, which he believes is capable of boosting the value of ADA to higher levels.

“We’re focused on the growth of our on-chain metrics such as transaction volume, which is still increasing month on month, so it’s looking incredibly positive.”

Cardano Suffers Major Criticism

The Cardano project has come under heavy scrutiny since its inception, with many derogatory names such as “Ghost Chain” used to describe the project.

The major frustration stems from the pace the blockchain’s development team has taken to roll out significant upgrades, which are considered relatively slow.

However, Hoskinson and other Cardano developers are not bothered by these criticisms as they continue to follow a measured and careful approach in a bid to protect investors.

Hoskinson said Cardano usually writes code slowly in order to avoid making similar mistakes made by other blockchain projects in the past, which ended in disaster.

Regardless of the shades aimed at Cardano, the team is not prepared to change its mode of operation, which has the possibility of ruining everything that has been built in years.

“We have always pursued a defined, clearly-staged roadmap to deliver on Cardano’s capability and fulfill its long-term potential,” Hoskinson said.

Recall that Cardano postponed the launch of Vasil Hard Fork from its initial deployment date of late last month to the end of July.

Hoskinson said the postponement was necessary as it would help its development team and other projects to check for bugs and provide relevant fixes before it could be rolled out.

Charles Hoskinson Picks His 2021 and 2022 Most Defining Cardano (ADA) Moment

0

The Cardano founder had no issue choosing his stand-out moments for 2021 and this year.

Cardano has continued to introduce significant upgrades and features since it was launched in 2017 that it would be difficult for users to select their favorite stand-out moment.

While members of the Cardano community will have a tough time choosing what their last year’s stand-out moment was, Charles Hoskinson, the founder of the blockchain project, does not seem to be facing that challenge.

For Hoskinson, the Alonzo Hard Fork remains his stand-out moment from last year. “The Alonzo hard fork for sure,” Hoskinson was quoted as saying in his interview with City AM.

Alonzo Feature

The Alonzo upgrade introduced significant features to Cardano, which ushered the network into the realm of smart contract compatibility. Alonzo fused two most important features of the two largest cryptocurrencies – Bitcoin’s UTXO model and Ethereum’s smart contract functionality.

Following the fusion of the two important features, Cardano was able to offer increased scalability while also maintaining maximum security.

Vasil Upcoming Features

Interestingly, despite the fact that the second phase of the year just started, Hoskinson has already weighed up his most defining moment for the whole of 2022 and it is no other but the Vasil Hard Fork.

“It’s always difficult to define one key moment but the Vasil hard fork is pretty significant,” Hoskinson said.

Hoskinson considers Vasil the most complex Hard Fork the blockchain Cardano team has made since its inception.

While the upgrade was originally scheduled to launch by June 2022, it was later rescheduled to go live later this month. Vasil Hard Fork is already live on Cardano testnet and the mainnet deployment is set for later this month.

Vasil is tipped to improve on key features including smart contract functionality, speed, and scalability, among others.

Cardano Is Always Focused on the Future

Cardano has always tried to be different from what is considered the norm in the cryptocurrency and blockchain community. For instance, while most cryptocurrency projects are overwhelmed with their present status, Cardano’s lead developer, Input Output Global (IOG), is always focused on the next big moves that would usher in significant improvements to the network.

Hoskinson has already highlighted what the blockchain will focus on by next year. In an interview with London’s most-read newspaper City AM, Hoskinson said while the development arm of Cardano is generally focused on boosting Cardano’s performance to increase its adoption in 2022, the project will focus more on governance by next year.

Hoskinson added that the fact Cardano will concentrate more on governance next year does not mean it will also not improve the overall blockchain’s performance.

Tether Short Selling Continues, What Happens If The Largest Stablecoin De-pegs?

Tether Short Selling Continues, What Happens If The Largest Stablecoin De-pegs?

Data on Curve’s 3pool, where users can swap between stablecoins USDT, USDC, and DAI, showed that Tether makes up 65% of the supply, according to a Bloomberg report on Monday, an indication that Tether holders are more willing to sell their holdings.

“USDT is the most widely held and accessible stablecoin in the world, so it is not a surprise that more people hold USDT and have it available to swap for other assets they want to use for other purposes,” said a Tether spokesperson reached for comment.

While Tether attributes its dominance of the 3pool supply to its massive adoption, it is worth noting that its supply in the pool only surged to such volume following the de-pegging of Terra USD. Notably, Tether’s share of the supply only constituted 29.9% as of May 6 before the Terra crisis. Moreover, its supply in the liquidity pool surged to 82% on May 12 as the UST decline continued.

As the Wall Street Journal reported last week, hedge funds have made large bets against USDT following the Terra ecosystem collapse. It is worth noting that since the UST de-pegging, scrutiny of stablecoin backing has increased, and Tether’s reserves have been brought into question once again.

While Tether continues to release third-party attestations of its crypto holdings, detractors of the stablecoin have called for a full audit instead. Meanwhile, Tether has continued to report that it is making its reserve as liquid as possible, increasing its US treasury bills holdings while steadily reducing its commercial paper exposure with a plan to bring it down to zero in the coming months.

Several pundits have said that a major USDT de-pegging event could be catastrophic for the crypto markets. Moreover, it is not just the largest stablecoin but also the 3rd largest crypto asset by market cap, serving as the most used on and off-ramp for other assets.

While Tether appears to be losing popularity with hedge funds, it still maintains significant retail demand. Consequently, recent reports show that Argentines are purchasing the stablecoin en masse as inflation concerns grow. The same trend can also be seen in several developing economies witnessing worsening inflation.

Tether has seen $16 billion wiped from its market cap in just over a month as it fielded a rise in redemptions.

Cardano Lead Developer Finally Launches Vasil Hard Fork on Testnet

0

The Vasil upgrade has taken a significant step toward its mainnet launch scheduled for later this month.

Cardano’s research and development team has announced the launch of Vasil Hard Fork on the network’s testnet. According to an announcement made by Input Output Global (IOG), the project’s lead developer, Vasil Hard Fork, was deployed on the blockchain’s testnet yesterday at around 20:20 UTC, in a move considered an important step toward the launch of the upgrade on mainnet.

The testnet launch of Vasil Hard Fork, according to the IOG, will allow cryptocurrency exchanges, stake pool operators (SPOs), and developers to conduct rigorous testing for the upgrade in order to ensure everything is working as expected.

The testing of Vasil will be done within the next four weeks, and after the relevant parties are sure that the upgrade is working flawlessly, Vasil will finally go live on mainnet by the end of this month, the announcement adds.

Requirements to Test Vasil

All projects are requested to check backward compatibility and SPOs will also be required to make some adjustments to their scripts. The process is expected to be seamless. However, the IOG and Cardano Foundation team will be available to guide projects during the testing period.

“The teams at [Cardano Foundation] & IOG will be working closely with exchanges and DApp/tool developers throughout this process. As soon as we are confident that ecosystem partners are comfortable & ready, we’ll submit an updated proposal to upgrade the #Cardano mainnet to #Vasil,” IOG adds.

Expected Features of Vasil

Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, described Vasil as the most complicated Hard Fork the network’s development team has embarked on. In a bid to avoid mistakes, the IOG postponed the launch of Vasil from last month to the end of this month.

Vasil is tipped to enhance different aspects of Cardano, including the network’s scalability, high throughput diffusion pipelining, script performance and the blockchain’s efficiency among others.

“The Vasil upgrade will also include Cardano cryptographic primitive improvements (enabling greater interoperability options for other blockchains), a tuned Plutus interpreter, and a new cost model, which are all part of Plutus V2 scripts,” the IOG said.

If the Vasil test is successful, the upgrade will go live on Cardano Mainnet by the end of this month.

ADA Soars Only 0.1%

Meanwhile, news of Vasil Hard Fork’s launch on Cardano Testnet had no impact on the price of ADA, the native cryptocurrency of Cardano. ADA is still trading around $0.45, the price level it changed hands for most part of the weekend.

The cryptocurrency is up 0.1% at the time of writing this line.

British Army Loses Control Of Twitter And YouTube Accounts To Crypto Scammers

British Army Loses Control Of Twitter And YouTube Accounts To Scammers.

The Twitter and YouTube accounts of the British Army were hacked briefly on Sunday, as confirmed by statements from the Army and the Ministry of Defence Press Office.

The hackers reportedly used both platforms to promote fraudulent cryptocurrency and NFT projects. Additionally, the hackers renamed the YouTube account after American investment managers Ark Invest. The fraudsters reportedly posted videos of discussions held by the company in 2021 around Bitcoin on the channel.

The Army has since regained control of both platforms. “Apologies for the temporary interruption to our feed. We will conduct a full investigation and learn from this incident,” read a tweet from the Army’s Twitter handle.

“The breach of the Army’s Twitter and YouTube accounts that occurred earlier today has been resolved and an investigation is underway,” added the Ministry of Defence Press office.” The Army takes information security extremely seriously and until their investigation is complete it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

Meanwhile, no reports indicate if followers lost digital assets to the scammers at the time of writing. The Army has 363,000 followers on Twitter and 177,000 subscribers on YouTube.

It is worth noting that these types of hacks are quite popular among crypto scammers as they leverage recognized authorities and influential brands.

In January of this year, a user lost 26 BTC to the creators of a fake Michael Saylor YouTube Channel in what is seen as the largest single crypto payment to fraudsters. In the exploit, the scammers offered to double the digital assets sent to their wallet; a ploy formerly used when the Twitter profiles of popular figures Bill Gates and Elon Musk were hijacked.

Additionally, in December last year, the Twitter account of the Indian Prime Minister was hacked for the second time, as reported by The Crypto Basic. The hackers caused a frenzy as they declared Bitcoin legal tender in India, offering a 500 BTC giveaway.

Charles Hoskinson, Cardano Founder Features On London’s Most Read Finance And Business Newspaper

Charles appears on City Am London.

Cardano’s Charles Hoskinson has been featured in Crypto AM Magazine, a subsidiary of City AM, London’s most-read business newspaper, as revealed in a tweet by IOHK on Saturday.

The Cardano founder is featured on the cover of the online magazine alongside Binance co-founder Yi He and vocal crypto supporter and British MP Matt Hancock. In the magazine, Hoskinson sums up his plans for the Cardano network for 2022.

“2022 is the year of governance,” says Hoskinson, as he clarified, “This doesn’t mean we’ll stop working on building a better, faster and cheaper blockchain, but each year has a theme.”

The developer names the long-anticipated Vasil hard fork as the key moment to watch out for this year. Hoskinson asserts that the upgrade expected at the end of July will boost the network’s capacity and improve Plutus, its smart contract programming language.

“So on the one hand you’re going to have a big throughput increase. On the other hand, you are going to have new ways of developing Cardano contracts that don’t require high throughput,” says Hoskinson.

The Vasil hard fork has been long-awaited by members of the Cardano community as it promises to usher in about 1000 DApps in development. Notably, the IOG team reached an important milestone on June 25 by completing Cardano node 1.35.0, the final node for the Vasil hard fork.

The Crypto Basic has since reported that the upgrade is set to launch on the Cardano testnet on July 3, as revealed by Hoskinson, with a mainnet launch expected at the end of the month.

Notably, in 2022, crypto creators have seen increased recognition by mainstream publications. For example, in April, Ethereum’s Vitalik Buterin covered TIME magazine as he discussed his dreams for the crypto space.

At the time of writing, ADA, Cardano’s native token, is trading at the $0.4468 price point. It is down 2.71% in the last 24 hours and 11.12% in the last seven days. It is the 7th largest crypto asset by market cap.

Shiba Inu’s Welly To Launch “WellyDogDAO”

Shiba Inu’s Welly To Launch “WellyDogDAO” in Coming Two Months With an Exclusive Right to Vote on Business and Web3 Related Decisions.

In a recent tweet, Welly, the first NFT project with rewards from fast-food stores powered by Shiba Inu reveals that the team is working on the WellyDogDAO. The launch is expected in the coming two months.

Through WellyDogDAO, the Welly NFT holders will be able to vote on different decisions related to business and web3. The Italy-based fast-food company confirmed that one NFT would equal one vote.

However, no further details about the WellyDogDAO have been revealed yet officially.

This comes after the successful completion of the Welly NFTs Mint Event held on June 9th. Welly NFT mint event comprised of three phases: Exclusive Sale, Private Sale, and Public Sale. Each and every phase of the event was scheduled to end in 24 hours. The base mint price was set from 0.12 ETH to 0.15 ETH. Following the event, Welly’s team burned all the remaining NFTs.

The developers of the Shiba Inu ecosystem jump into the IRL industry by joining hands with Welly on February 2, 2022. Following the partnership, Welly has rebranded its entire business to reflect Shiba Inu and opened its first official fast food restaurant in Naples, Italy. Welly is accepting Shiba Inu as payment in its store and contributing towards Shiba burn via NOWPayments.

Welly plans to expand across the globe. For this reason, the fast-food company has given an invitation to interested applicants all around the world to apply for opening up a franchise in their country.

According to reports, Welly has received over 300 franchise requests till now, and the team has started interviewing some applicants. The team in a recent Discord event discloses that they’re very near to closing the deal with one of the most suitable franchisees. However, the team refused to reveal the name of the applicant and also the country in which they were going to open up their first franchise.

Terra Investors Not Giving Up On Luna Classic (LUNC), But LUNC Opportunists Keep Hampering Their Efforts

Terra Investors Not Giving Up On Luna Classic (LUNC).

Despite the massive collapse of the Terra ecosystem tokens UST and LUNA, many investors are still not prepared to give up as they launch significant moves to help the assets rally again.

The moves made by these diehard investors have been helpful in the past few days, with both crypto assets boasting significant gains so far.

Over the last seven days, Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) has been up 113%, while TerraClassicUSD (USTC) has surged by 527%.

The tremendous growth in these tokens comes on the heels of concerted campaign efforts by the community to burn a huge portion of the LUNC 6.5 trillion circulating supply.

Terra’s Flawed Design

The massive difference in the surge of both cryptocurrency assets within the past seven days stems from the design of the Terra project, which was heavily criticized by Changpeng Zhao, the founder, and CEO of the world’s largest crypto exchange Binance.

Terra 1.0 blockchain is designed in a way whereby the supply of LUNC and USTC tokens are automatically adjusted based on the value of each cryptocurrency.

For instance, when the value of the old algorithmic stablecoin plunges below $1, UST supply will be burnt by minting $1 unit of the LUNC token, and also entails a swap fee that will be paid in Luna Classic.

The initiative helped maintain the UST peg to the dollar via the reduction of the stablecoin supply. Meanwhile, the opposite will occur if the stablecoin value exceeds its $1 peg.

With both tokens connected to each other, any action carried out by investors on one directly affects the other positively or negatively.

USTC Opportunists Frustrate LUNC Investors

LUNC investors are trying to boost the value of their Luna Classic holdings by burning a huge chunk of the cryptocurrency. Also as a major development the StarShip Universe project accepted LUNC as Payment, with1.2% of All LUNC Payments To Be Burnt.

While these actions have gone smoothly, their actions are being hampered by opportunists invested in USTC, who continue to get more gains as LUNC holders burn more of their tokens.

“If you just buy USTC you force LUNC holders to burn the supply to increase the price of their holdings….which is how it’s designed. Then you can just capitulate to your USTC holdings (which will likely lead to more de-pegging, but again…how it’s designed),” a Twitter user shed more light on the development.

Terra’s Collapse

Recall that after the collapse of Terra tokens, the team behind the project created a new chain of tokens to compensate investors for their losses. The old tokens were renamed Luna Classic (LUNC) and TerraClassicUSD (USTC), respectively.

Despite the fact that new Terra tokens have been airdropped to investors, popular exchanges have continued to support the old Terra tokens on their platform.
