As Terra 2.0 Approaches The Team Provides More Details About LUNA Airdrop Calculation Logic

Terra team announces more details about the LUNA airdrop.

As terra is transforming to terra 2.0, the new LUNA coins will be airdropped to LUNA (LUNC), UST (USTC), and aUST holders.

Airdrop Information

Terra team confirms that airdrop will occur on May 28th. The LUNA airdrop will occur on the first block of the new Terra chain, expected on or around May 28th, 2022, at 06:00:00 GMT.

Total Supply of LUNA: 1 Billion

Pre-Attack Snapshot Height: 7544910 (2022–05–07 14:59:37 UTC)

Post-Attack Snapshot Height: 7790000 (2022–05–26 16:38:08 UTC)

LUNA Token Distribution

There will be four groups of tokens in the Terra ecosystem when the airdrop begins:

  1. Pre-crash Luna
  2. Pre-crash UST
  3. Post-crash Luna
  4. Post-crash UST

These four groups are formed in accordance with when the said tokens were bought, with the start of the Luna and UST price crash as the reference.

Ripple Attorney Warns Elon Musk: ‘SEC Might See Dogecoin As Investment Contract Between Him And His Companies’

Ripple (XRP) Attorney Cautions Elon Musk to Avoid SEC’s Trouble Via His Promotion of Dogecoin (DOGE).

The development comes a few months after Musk announced that the popular memecoin could be used to purchase Tesla products, including electric cars and other accessories.

Attorney Deaton does not want the Tesla boss to be a victim of the SEC.

Attorney John Deaton, an outspoken attorney in the Ripple v. SEC lawsuit, has cautioned Tesla CEO and founder Elon Musk to tread carefully in order to avoid getting into trouble with the Securities and Exchange Commission, following his massive support for Dogecoin (DOGE).

In a tweet today, attorney Deaton cautioned the Tesla exec in response to an XRP holder, who cited the influence Musk has on the popular memecoin.

The Twitter user who goes by the username @JayBlessed901, complained about the double standard of the SEC, the security agency that slammed a lawsuit against Ripple for allegedly breaching U.S. securities laws.

“Elon tweets about DOGE & it jumps Ripple has a deal with just about every major financial institution & XRP still gets suppressed because Gary Gensler is holding them hostage. Thank you for your protection Gary,” @JayBlessed901 tweets.

Responding to the tweet, attorney Deaton urged Musk to tread carefully as he continues to promote the widespread adoption of Dogecoin because the SEC may one day declare the cryptocurrency an “investment contract” just like they did with Ripple’s XRP.

He suggested that if that happens, both Musk and his companies, Tesla and SpaceX, may be charged for breaching securities laws.

John’s response came after Yesterday’s Elon Musk’s announcement, where he confirmed that His SpaceX to Accept Dogecoin Soon for merchandise. Elon Musk’s statement came a few months after Musk announced that the popular memecoin could be used to purchase Tesla products, including electric cars and other accessories.

Attorney Deaton Fears a Repeat of Ripple’s Incident

Understandably, attorney Deaton’s warning comes based on the ongoing Ripple v. SEC lawsuit developments.

Recall that the SEC also charged Ripple’s execs, Brad Garlinghouse and Chris Larsen, for their roles in the promotion of XRP to investors.

Musk is also considered one of the influencers who contributed to DOGE’s widespread adoption. Aside from his companies accepting DOGE payments, he has made tweets that caused the token’s price to soar tremendously in the past.

Meanwhile, attorney Deaton, who recently filed an Amici request to represent over 67,000 XRP holders in the Ripple v. SEC lawsuit, is only expressing concern about keeping Musk away from the SEC’s charges.

Elon Musk Confirms His SpaceX Merch to Accept Dogecoin Soon

The Tesla boss is planning to bolster the utility of DOGE by accepting the cryptocurrency as payment for SpaceX merchandise.

Elon Musk, the CEO and founder of Tesla, has suggested that he would be continuing his support for the popular memecoin Dogecoin (DOGE).

According to a recent tweet by the Tesla exec, Dogecoin users will soon be allowed to use the cryptocurrency to purchase a variety of merchandise from the SpaceX online store.

“Tesla merch can be bought with Doge, soon SpaceX merch too,” the former world’s richest man disclosed in a tweet today.

While Musk did not disclose when Dogecoin users will start using the cryptocurrency to purchase SpaceX merchandise, it is expected that the service will be rolled out later this year.

Once the service is available, Dogecoin users will be able to buy different SpaceX merchandise like Kid’s SpaceX spacesuit, unisex starship pullover hoodie, and a variety of other items.

The development comes a few months after Musk announced that the popular memecoin could be used to purchase Tesla products, including electric cars and other accessories.

Musk’s Continuous Support for Dogecoin

The news may not shock many cryptocurrency enthusiasts because Musk has been a major supporter of Dogecoin for over a year.

Musk is considered as one of the reasons why Dogecoin had an interesting rally in the early stages of last year, with the cryptocurrency surging as high as nearly $0.8.

Although DOGE has plummeted rapidly from its previous all-time high of $0.73, that has not deterred Musk from declaring his support for the popular memecoin.

Earlier this year, Musk continued to throw his weight behind the project. Musk suggested two months ago that if famous microblogging platform Twitter does not promote free speech, he may be forced to consider developing a decentralized social media platform that will use Dogecoin.

However, Musk plans to develop a decentralized social media platform that does not look like it will happen anymore as the Tesla exec has been given the approval to acquire a 100% Twitter stake.

Widespread Dogecoin Acceptance

Aside from Musk accepting Dogecoin, the cryptocurrency has become increasingly popular among online merchants, as it continues to be adopted as a payment method.

As reported, DOGE is currently accepted as a payment method across ten publicly-listed companies in the United States.

DOGE Soars 5% In 24 Hours

The news that Dogecoin users will soon be allowed to buy SpaceX merchandise caused the cryptocurrency to record a slight gain in the hour leading to press time.

At press time, Dogecoin is up 5% in the last 24 hours, as it is currently changing hands at $0.08.

8 Different Types Of Investments

When it comes to investments, it might surprise you to learn that there are many different kinds. You can’t simply put up your money and expect it to be “invested”; instead, you’ll find lots of different ways to embed your funds in several different places, meaning that the stock market can sometimes seem like a confusing and difficult place if it’s your first time investing.

This doesn’t have to be the case, however. While there are many different investment types, the truth is that most of them are pretty simple when you take the time to learn and understand them. Don’t be afraid to use sites like InterInvestor to help you decipher stock market info, either; you should be taking advantage of all the help you can get in this area. We’re here to assist you as well, so without further ado, here are 8 different types of investments you’re likely to come across out there in the wide world of investing.

1. Cryptocurrency

One of the newest types of investments out there on the market (relatively speaking, of course) is cryptocurrency. To put it simply, this is a currency that uses the blockchain to verify ownership; you buy crypto, and your transaction is registered on a decentralized ledger that is regularly updated with new transactions. Cryptocurrency doesn’t have a regulating authority or body, unlike traditional fiat currency. Some of the most common types of crypto include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, and Litecoin, and more types are appearing every day.

2. Stocks

If you’ve ever had a conversation about investment, then there’s a good chance you’ve talked about buying stocks. In short, stocks are a way to own a share in any given company. The company must be trading publicly in order for you to buy stocks. Your stocks will increase or decrease in value depending on the fortunes of the company; if it has a massively successful product launch, you’ll see the value of your stocks increase, but if its CEO is caught doing something illegal, the stock value could plummet. Stocks are a conventional type of investment, but there is, of course, still risk involved.

3. Mutual funds

Mutual funds tend to be options for more serious investors (and not options in the investment sense, which we’ll come to later) because they involve pooling your money with other investments to invest in a wide range of companies. There are active and passive mutual funds; active funds are managed by an individual or organization, while passive funds simply track stock markets and invest according to trends. This is a good option if you don’t trust yourself to properly diversify your portfolio and want to move with a group of other savvy investors.

4. Retirement and pension plans

Technically, retirement and pension plans count as investments, since you’re putting money into a fund that will pay out for you after a certain point. In America, you may hear retirement plans referred to as “401(k)s”, which tend to be plans that your employer sponsors. In the UK, most employers will provide some kind of pension plan that you can join, and will take a portion of your wages each month to guarantee you some kind of income when you retire. It’s worth asking about your pension fund when you get a new job because employers’ policies can differ.

5. Options

In essence, when you purchase options, you’re still buying stocks, but you’re adding another layer to proceedings. Options allow you to buy “the option” of buying or selling assets with a fixed price at a given time. You may hear “call options” and “put options” referred to, but don’t worry; this is just a fancy way of saying buy options and sell options, which can have different rates. This can be a slightly more risky way to buy a stock because it depends on the value of that stock increasing after you buy the option, which isn’t always guaranteed.

6. Commodities

Unlike a stock, a commodity is a physical entity. There are, in essence, four main categories for commodities: metals, agriculture, energy, and livestock. The value of these commodities can rise or fall sharply depending on current events. Let’s say, for example, that there is a major oil spill disaster. This can mean that the value of crude oil, which is an energy commodity, plummets. As such, you should be sure that you’ve accrued a lot of knowledge about the commodity you’re investing in because the last thing you want is to be blindsided by a sudden drop in value.

7. Bonds

Bonds are one of the most common types of investments, alongside stocks. When you buy a bond, you’re essentially providing a loan to the entity from which you purchased it. The loan will come with a repayment date and an interest rate, and the interest rate on the bond is how you make money on your investment. Just like loans, you will find that bonds can either be secured or unsecured, with the company potentially putting up an asset against the guarantee that it will repay its loan. Bonds are, by nature, a little volatile, but they can be solid investments if you pick the right ones.

8. Property

Most investors don’t consider investing in property until they’ve accumulated serious funds. However, if you do have a high capital level and you’re looking for equally high returns, then property can be a great investment for you. In essence, you’re on the hunt for properties that you can buy below market value and then resell at a higher price. To do so, you might need to “flip” the property (depending on the condition it’s in when you buy it) or simply wait for a more advantageous moment when the market is stronger in order to sell.

Number of Ethereum Addresses In Losses Surges to a Two-Year High of 34M

0

Ethereum plunges many investors into losses as its selling pressure increases.

Ethereum (ETH), the world’s second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, is currently undergoing serious selling pressure as its price drops below $1,800.

Over the last 24 hours, Ethereum has dipped as low as $1,728, thus plunging many addresses holding the cryptocurrency into huge losses.

Fresh data shared by cryptocurrency on-chain data provider Glassnode shows that the number of ETH addresses in losses using the seven-day moving average metric has reached a two-year low.

According to data provided by Glassnode, the number of addresses holding the second-largest cryptocurrency in loss peaked at a two-year high of more than 34 million earlier today.

“#Ethereum $ETH Number of Addresses in Loss (7d MA) just reached a 2-year high of 34,112,307.018,” Glassnode noted today on popular microblogging platform Twitter.

Terra’s Incident Forces ETH to Plunge

The massive increase in the number of ETH addresses in losses is understandable given that the cryptocurrency has been on a massive decline in recent times.

It is worth noting that in the past two weeks, Ethereum was changing hands above $2,600, as the cryptocurrency looked set to surge above $3,000 at the time.

However, things did not go according to what many people envisaged following the crash of Terra ecosystem tokens, which is considered the main catalyst for the ongoing bear market.

Since the market crash commenced, Ethereum has dipped as low as $1,728, which is a shadow of the coin’s all-time high (ATH) of $4,878 recorded on November 10, 2021.

At press time, Ethereum is changing hands at $1,812, representing a 62.9% dip from its all-time high.

Bitcoin Dominance Mounts Further Pressure on ETH

Meanwhile, the Terra incident is not the only cause of Ethereum’s dip. Since the Terra incident, Bitcoin (BTC) has grown in dominance over other digital currencies in the market, which continues to pile more pressure on ETH.

Bitcoin, which currently has a market cap of $557.2 billion, accounts for 44% of the total cryptocurrency market value, while Ethereum’s dominance is currently at 17.2%.

Commenting on the effect of Bitcoin’s dominance on other cryptocurrencies, Julio Moreno, a senior analyst at CryptoQuant, said in a Bloomberg report:

“Typically, when there’s a correction in crypto markets, altcoins underperform Bitcoin, as they are perceived as higher risk coins than Bitcoin.”

India Economic Times noted that ETH is expected to be under more pressure as a whopping $1 billion option is due to expire this week. Based on the development, investors will be forced to avoid risky investments until things settle.

Blockchain News: Crypto-Based Firms Dominate Annual World Economic Forum, Mark Bitcoin Pizza Day In Style

0

In the latest blockchain news, this year’s World Economic Forum WEF has been dominated by crypto-based companies, albeit unexpectedly. The 5-day annual event, which is currently held in Davos, Switzerland, has seen a huge turnout from members of the crypto industry, despite the recent market crash that saw over $500 billion wiped out from the industry in 30 days.

Virtually A Blockchain Event As Crypto Firms Register Huge Presence At 2022 WEF

Usually, the WEF is a global event attended by some 3,000 paying members and other selected participants. The participants may include investors, government officials, economists, journalists, political figures, and economists, who meet to discuss pressing issues around the globe.

Meanwhile, during the 5-day program there usually is what is known as “The Promenade.” This is where big international firms such as Facebook-owned Meta and governments get to display their finery during the week. But quite unlike never before, the 2022 Davos promenade has been crawling with crypto companies since the forum began on Sunday.

On the same day the forum began, the company behind the popular USDT stablecoin, Tether, set up shop and gave away free pizzas. Tether did this, to celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day — usually celebrated every 22nd of May in remembrance of the very first transaction carried out with Bitcoin. A programmer had bought two pizzas on May 22, 2010, with Bitcoin.

Joining Tether on The Promenade, however, is RollApp — a non-fungible token (NFT) store, USDC’s Circle, and a host of other crypto-based firms. In fact, according to one of the present delegates who spoke to CNBC, about 60% of the street has been taken over by crypto-related companies.

Unflinching Belief In Crypto

Notably, the crypto community having such a great representation at Davos, is a sign of the industry’s strength. Especially considering how a recent market crash saw the crypto market losing well over $500 billion within a month.

But there’s also a possibility that the companies represented at the event had made plans long before the market collapse incident.

Either way, it’s been an undoubtedly hard few weeks in the crypto space. But major players in the business are holding on strongly to their beliefs in the blockchain technology and the industry at large.

Speaking about the current outlook of the crypto space, the Chief Operating Officer COO of Casper Labs, Clifford Sarkin said in part:

“We are in a position that we are going to withstand the bear market and there will be a bull run again.”

Additionally, Sarkin claims that some good may have come out of the recent crash that happened. He explained further that the crash may have come with some positives, especially for his kind of company whose ideal clients are businesses rather than consumers.

But Sarkin’s thoughts might be understandable to an extent. While individuals who started investing in crypto may be making a run for it in these difficult times, businesses and institutions have been waxing stronger in the space.

Cardano (ADA) Founder Charles Hoskinson Visits Washington D.C. to Seek Favorable Crypto Regulations

The Cardano boss has taken cryptocurrency regulatory matters upon himself as he lobbies regulators in Washington.

While many cryptocurrency experts have only expressed concerns about the lack of regulatory clarity via different social media channels, Charles Hoskinson, the CEO of Input Output Global (IOG), the firm responsible for Cardano’s research and development, has taken cryptocurrency regulatory matters personally.

The Cardano founder noted in a video today that he has been in Washington D.C. for over a week lobbying regulators and various blockchain associations to determine the best approach to regulating the nascent industry.

According to Hoskinson, his trip to Washington D.C. is part of efforts to aid the wider acceptance of cryptocurrencies among policymakers, which would also go a long way to changing misconceptions about digital currencies.

Cardano Focused on Conducting Regulated Businesses

Despite the lack of regulatory clarity for the cryptocurrency sector, Hoskinson noted that Cardano would continue to liaise with relevant regulatory agencies and organizations to conduct regulated businesses.

“The Cardano ecosystem is going to be engaging and has a desire to do regulated business whether it be a security token offering, whether it be regulated, or whether it be legacy financial institutions like banks adopting the protocol,” Hoskinson was quoted as saying in the video.

Increased Calls to Provide Clear Crypto Regulations

In recent times, the United States’ cryptocurrency community has called for regulatory clarity for the industry in order for projects and investors to know how best to conduct themselves in the market.

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission is seeking to seize total control of the cryptocurrency market, as expressed by its Chairman Gary Gensler in a recent video.

Once the SEC’s request is granted, it will completely eliminate the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) from getting involved with cryptocurrency regulatory matters.

The SEC has blatantly refused to provide clear regulations that will determine what cryptocurrency should be considered a security.

Hoskinson noted that he is optimistic that the cryptocurrency industry will get the relevant regulation it has demanded for years, adding:

“We will continue as a community to ever get more decentralized and resilient and diverse.”

Hoskinson did not fail to talk about the ongoing work at Cardano, which is focused on making the blockchain more scalable, faster, and more resilient.

As the launch of the Vasil Hard Fork edges closer, the Cardano community is eager to see the blockchain become the favorite network for decentralized application (dApp) developers.

Scammers Airdrop Millions of Fake Terra (LUNA) Tokens to Vitalik Buterin, Justin Sun, To Make It Look Real

0

Malefactors are still making efforts to scam unsuspecting victims of their devalued LUNA tokens.

With Terra investors expecting the airdrop of the new LUNA tokens in exchange for the old ones, scammers have attempted to take advantage of the situation to defraud unsuspecting victims of their funds.

According to an unfortunate development discovered by PeckShieldAlert, an outlet that investigates crypto fraud, scammers have developed millions of malicious LUNA tokens and sent them to addresses belonging to popular cryptocurrency players to make their bogus airdrops look real.

As noted on Twitter, some of the cryptocurrency experts and firms that received the malicious LUNA airdrop include Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, Tron CEO and founder Justin Sun, and Andreessen Horowitz (a16z).

“PeckShieldAlert PeckShield has detected Scammers sending Wrapped LUNA 2.0 to Terra Deployer Etherscan.io/token and airdropping to @VitalikButerin @a16z ThreeArrowsCapital, justinsuntron, terra_money. It tricks folks, it is the official Terra Deployer airdrop. Be Alert!” PeckShieldAlert tweeted earlier today.

The Intention Behind the Fake Airdrop

Apparently, the fake LUNA airdrop by these scammers is just a plot to get the cryptocurrency community, especially Terra investors into believing that the token’s contract page is real and can be trusted.

Once the objective has been achieved, Terra investors may be tempted to swap their devalued LUNA tokens for the new ones created by the scammers, thus making them lose out completely on the official airdrop.

Efforts to Compensate Terra Investors

Recall that TerraForm Labs has already made significant efforts to compensate $LUNA and UST investors for their losses in the past weeks.

While the company proposed a plan to airdrop new $LUNA tokens to existing holders, Terra will also burn its excess $UST reserve in order to bolster the tokens’ value.

As reported, the airdrop is already scheduled to take place tomorrow, with the entire cryptocurrency eager to know how Terra plans to boost the value of UST and LUNA back to the levels they were trading before the crash.

Meanwhile, Buterin recently joined other cryptocurrency experts in slamming Terra for causing its ecosystem tokens to plunge.

According to Buterin, Terra’s 20% ROI is one of the causes of the token’s crash, adding that:

“There is no genuine investment that can get anywhere close to 20% returns per year.”

Ethereum Founder Vitalik Blasts Terra, Says No Genuine Investment Can Provide 20% Yearly Returns

Buterin joins the list of Terra’s critics, saying that no genuine investment will reward investors with 20% ROI yearly.

Apparently, TerraForm Labs is not yet free from public scrutiny as Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin joins the list of critics who have slammed the project’s business model.

The Ethereum boss noted in a recent Bloomberg report that no genuine investment will give investors a guaranteed 20% return yearly.

“There is no genuine investment that can get anywhere close to 20% returns per year.”

According to Buterin, the recent criticism of the decentralized finance (DeFi) financial mechanism is a welcome development, most especially for those cryptocurrency projects that are working relentlessly to optimize for “capital efficiency.”

“The greater level of scrutiny on defi financial mechanisms, especially those that try very hard to optimize for ‘capital efficiency’, is highly welcome. The greater acknowledgment that present performance is no guarantee of future returns (or even future lack-of-total-collapse) is even more welcome,” Buterin added in a statement published yesterday.

Other Cryptocurrency Experts Slam Terra

Recall that TerraForm Labs, the company behind the popular blockchain Terra, has come under heavy backlash from various cryptocurrency experts.

These crypto experts attributed the failure of the company’s ecosystem tokens to the project’s design as well as its huge staking rewards of 20% on the Anchor protocol.

Industry experts like Binance founder and Circle CEO, among others, have slammed Terra in recent times following the collapse of the project.

Changpeng “CZ” Zhao not only expressed disappointment at the way Terra handled the situation, but he also went a step further to halt trading for Terra ecosystem tokens UST and LUNA to keep its investors safe from incurring more losses.

Terra’s Move to Compensate Investors

Binance later resumed trading for both cryptocurrencies when Terra proposed its so-called perfect plan to make investors whole.

It is no longer news that Terra ecosystem tokens LUNA and UST shredded significant percentages of their values, with many investors incurring huge losses along the way.

Many investors were lured into adopting Terra tokens due to the mouth-watering rewards associated with staking the cryptocurrencies on the Anchor protocol.

Terra’s proposals would see the company create a new chain with new LUNA tokens and also burn the excess UST reserve passed.

At the moment, investors are waiting for the official launch of Terra 2.0, which is scheduled to happen later today. As reported, several cryptocurrency exchanges have disclosed that they will be supporting the upcoming rebirth of the Terra network, and have taken significant steps yesterday to get things ready.

After Terra 2.0 launches, TerraForm Labs will commence the airdrop of new LUNA tokens to existing holders in a bid to fully compensate them for their losses in the past weeks.
