Fox Reporter Dispels Claims of Settlement Between Ripple and SEC Tomorrow

0

Prominent Fox reporter Eleanor Terrett has dispelled public claims made by Fox, which suggested that a settlement between Ripple and the SEC is expected tomorrow.

Eleanor Terrett, notable journalist and producer for Charlie Gasparino at Fox, has come up to publicly debunk claims made on Fox Business which implied that Ripple Labs and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) are expecting a settlement regarding the seemingly incessant litigation between the two entities.

The claim was made by Polish journalist and bitcoin maximalist Natalie Brunnel on Fox Business in the early hours of Monday. Taking to Twitter, Terrett noted that the claim was false, revealing that she had spoken with a spokesperson from Ripple on the matter.

“Per a Ripple spokesperson, this morning’s report on an expected settlement between Ripple and the SECGov tomorrow (11/15) is false,” she remarked in a tweet a few hours following the public claim.

Gasparino also shared a tweet about the false settlement news.

Recall that Brunnel, speaking on the recent FTX situation on Fox Business this morning, highlighted a few pointers from the litigation between Ripple and the SEC. Brunnel’s comments on the matter insinuated that both parties were expecting a settlement tomorrow.

“It is interesting to see what the verdict will be […] the big thing I want people to remember no matter what happens tomorrow is, right now, you can go to Twitter or Google, and you can find Ripple’s CEO. And Ripple is the largest holder of its token. Sound familiar?” Brunnel noted.

The recent comments from Terrett, which debunked the claim, have sparked several reactions amongst Ripple proponents and the community, with some individuals seizing an opportunity to jab at mainstream media.

Notably, attorney John Deaton and XRP investor mentioned that he would look to Terrett for information amongst all Fox reporters if talks for a settlement surfaced. Notwithstanding, he noted that he does not mean disrespecting the vast majority of reporters the media network has.

“No disrespect to others at FoxBusiness, in fact, much love, but if there were real talks of a settlement, I’d ask EleanorTerrett,” he commented. Deaton has been thoroughly invested in the Ripple case, contributing his quota as an amicus curiae in the lawsuit at different stages to represent XRP holders.

Meanwhile, despite noting that it is unlikely to happen, Deaton expressed his fear of an unfair ultimate judgment in favor of the SEC should judge Analisa Torres base her ruling on the claim that Ripple offered unregistered securities, even if it is not proven that the entity sold unregistered securities.

Deaton cited the recently-concluded LBRY case with the SEC, which saw a ruling in favor of the regulatory watchdog, as LBRY disclosed in a series of tweets last Monday. Notwithstanding, LBRY asserted that the ruling sets off a bad precedent for the cryptocurrency industry, as several assets can now be regarded as unregistered securities.

Deaton Says Cardano Founder Hoskinson Is Not An XRP Enemy

0

Attorney Deaton has asked XRP holders to stop harassing Charles Hoskinson.

In a tweet today, Attorney John Deaton, the founder of Crypto Law, has asked XRP holders to stop harassing Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson over the dispute that transpired a month ago.

What Happened?

Last month, Hoskinson said it is a grand conspiracy for members of the Ripple community to think Hinman had a conflict of interest with Ethereum officials. At the same time, he was the Director of the SEC’s Corporate Finance. Since Hoskinson made a comment, XRP holders have lambasted him for describing their claims as a grand conspiracy.

The Cardano founder disclosed later on that XRP holders were still harassing him despite the support he has given to Ripple over the years.

Deaton Wades In, Calls for Calm

In a bid to end the dispute that lasted for more than a month, Deaton called on XRP holders to stop harassing Hoskinson. Attorney Deaton said while the crypto community has lots of real enemies, he does not consider Hoskinson to be one despite the dispute that occurred in the past.

“As I’ve said, please don’t contact or harass any person, including Charles. Let’s all please move on,” attorney Deaton added.

It is worth mentioning that Deaton is currently the legal representative of over 75,000 XRP holders in the Ripple vs. SEC lawsuit. Attorney Deaton has earned the trust of XRP holders, who look up to him to defend their interests in the ongoing lawsuits.

Meanwhile, Deaton’s call to XRP holders comes after Hoskinson brought up the issue again in a lengthy Twitter thread. Deaton stressed that there is a need for clearer crypto regulations, especially now that the industry is being faced with the effect of the FTX collapse.

According to Deaton, the lack of clear crypto regulations in the U.S. has driven businesses offshore while increasing the chance for fraud and corruption.

Deaton added that Gary Gensler, the Chairman of the SEC, has no time to meet with Coinbase and Kraken CEO, but he meets with the former FTX CEO.

Deaton said, “Charles should be in there talking to regulators way before SBF.”

Deaton said we need to be respectful to each other and should move on. Cardano’s founder finally apologizes as both agree to move on.

Here’s How Much FTX Hacker Now Holds In BTC, ETH, And BNB

0

PeckShieldAlert gives a breakdown of the FTX hacker’s holdings today.

The FTX hacker’s wallet address now holds about $340 million in crypto after taking $28.6 million in “arbitrary losses,” according to PeckShieldAlert in a tweet an hour ago.

According to the exploit alert service, the address currently holds 160k ETH ($201 million), accounting for about 59% of its total holdings. Other tokens include $85.9 million in stablecoins, 148k BNB ($41.7 million), 10k PAXG ($17.8 million), 145k SOL ($2 million), and roughly 30.9 million USDT blacklisted by Tether.

FTX and FTX.US experienced an exploit last weekend, just hours after it filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy, as reported by The Crypto Basic. The hacker drained both exchange wallets of over $600 million in crypto assets.

Consequently, an administrator on the official FTX telegram channel urged users to delete FTX apps and avoid the website warning of malware, per a CoinDesk report. The exploit has also forced the exchange to move its remaining digital assets to cold storage, as FTX US General Counsel Ryne Miller disclosed in a tweet.

Several users disclosed that their balances had turned to zero during the attack.

The exchange is making the necessary effort to protect user assets while actively working with law enforcement in response to the hack, per a statement from Chief Restructuring officer and CEO of FTX, John Ray, shared by Miller on Twitter. In addition, the information revealed that the platform was working to remove withdrawal and trading functions.

Notably, Kraken has said that it has identified the owner of the Kraken address tied to the exploit. It comes as on-chain investigators traced some of the loot to the crypto exchange.

“We know the user’s identity,” said Nick Percoco, Chief Security Officer at Kraken, in a tweet on Saturday.

“We can confirm our team is aware of the identity of the account associated with the ongoing FTX hack, and we are committed to working with law enforcement to ensure they have everything they need to investigate this matter sufficiently,” a spokesperson of the exchange told Bloomberg.

Whether or not this person is directly responsible or if their account was compromised is yet to be revealed. However, it is clear that the hack significantly impacts the chances of customers getting fair compensation from the defunct crypto exchange.

Per the previous report, crypto Twitter speculates that the hack is the work of an insider.

The University of Alabama has filed six trademarks, disclosing plans to offer Metaverse and NFT-related services.

Amid a surge of crypto-focused trademark applications from several top firms, the University of Alabama (UA) becomes one of the first educational institutions to indicate interest in Web3, as it files six varying trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, with plans to use them in offering NFT-related services.

UA’s NFT-focused trademark applications reveal the university’s intentions to trademark its names and logos in the plan to offer certain services bordering on NFTs and the Metaverse, reveals Mike Kondoudis, a notable trademark attorney and member of the US Supreme Court Bar.

“The University of Alabama has filed 6 trademark applications for its names and logos claiming plans for:

  •  NFTs + Digital Tokens
  •  Online Stores for Virtual Goods
  •  NFT Marketplaces
  •  Financial Brokerage Services

…and more,” Kondoudis disclosed in a tweet Monday.

Kondoudis further shared a shot revealing more information on the trademark applications from UA. Data from the shot revealed that the trademarks with serial numbers 97669685, 97669682, 97669680, 97669678, 97669676, and 97669673 were filed on November 9 and are owned by The Board of Trustees of the University of Alabama.

Additionally, data indicate that the University of Alabama intends to utilize these six trademarks in proffering NFT-focused services such as:

  • Downloadable multimedia files including but not limited to pictures, videos, audio, artworks, etc., in the form of NFTs.
  • Digital collectibles featuring downloadable files in the likeness of athletes and sport-related objects.
  • An online retail store providing a platform for the purchase of virtual goods in the form of multimedia files.
  • An NFT marketplace that would allow users to buy and sell NFTs featuring downloadable multimedia files.
  • NFT issuance.
  • Provision of financial brokerage services focused on crypto collectibles, NFT, and digital tokens.

As global adoption surges regardless of the prevailing issues plaguing the space, the cryptocurrency scene has witnessed an increase in interest from top global entities, evident in the recent surge in crypto-related trademark applications filed with the USPTO.

Last Monday, The Crypto Basic reported luxury watchmaker Rolex’s intentions to dive into the crypto and NFT space, as it filed a trademark application with the USPTO on October 31, revealing plans to offer crypto-related services.

Reports of Rolex’s crypto-focused trademark applications came shortly after entities such as Visa, Nissan, and Western Union made the same moves. Several individuals have likened the crypto space to the internet, forecasting a major advantage for firms who dive into it early enough. As a result, the sudden interest is not unexpected.

Besides these recent trademark applications, the University of Alabama has shown interest in cryptocurrencies. In December 2020, the university partnered with blockchain analysis firm Chainalysis to provide students with education and training to acquire cryptocurrency skills. Acknowledging the growing interest in cryptocurrencies amongst students and alumni, UA recently opened up donations in cryptocurrencies for benefactors.

Binance Industry Recovery Fund Not For Terra Classic – Terra Rebels

0

ReXx of the Terra Rebels discloses that Recovery Fund from Binance is not meant for Terra Classic.

ReXx, a prominent Terra Rebels admin, recently revealed that neither the Terra Rebels group nor the Terra Classic (LUNC) project is eligible for the recently-introduced Industry Recovery Fund initiative from Binance.

Amidst the worrisome yet growing contagion triggered by the FTX crash, Binance Chief Changpeng “CZ” Zhao recently introduced a support program to assist reliable projects which appear to be suffering from a liquidity crunch due to direct or indirect exposure to FTX or Alameda.

CZ instructed interested applicants to contact Binance Labs to determine if they qualify for the fund through an assessment exercise. Notwithstanding, this hasn’t stopped several individuals from indicating interest in the comment section. Some LUNC proponents have also brought CZ’s attention to the once-neglected project.

In the wake of these calls, ReXx had to inform the community that the demands were unnecessary, as the Terra ecosystem does not qualify for the funds because LUNC has nothing to do with FTX’s collapse, not Terra Classic by any means is affected by FTX fall. Nevertheless, he expressed gratitude to the community for their commitment to seizing any opportunity that could potentially contribute to the project’s revival.

“Terra Rebels team is not eligible for these funds. Please do not spam cz in these regards. We appreciate the support from the community regardless,” ReXx disclosed in a tweet Monday.

ReXx’s assertion was prompted by the fact that the recently-introduced Binance Industry Recovery Fund initiative is only tailored for projects which, despite showing a track record of strength and transparency, are suffering from the negative impacts of the FTX debacle. The fund’s purpose is to impede the growth of the contagion in the crypto scene, CZ said.

Amid the panic dumped into the space, speculations of exposure to FTX have risen. Notably, crypto bank Silvergate noted that it had no exposure to FTX in the form of investments or loans. Additionally, exchange Crypto.com recently dismissed liquidity concerns, disclosing its FTX exposure is “minimal.” CoinShares, on the other hand, confirmed that it had exposures to FTX to the tune of $30M.

The Binance Chief mentioned that any industry players who wish to contribute to the already-established fund to extend its reach are free to indicate their interest in co-investing in the initiative.

Following CZ’s open invitation, Tron’s Justin Sun revealed that the entities he is affiliated with – Huobi Global, Tron, and Poloniex – are willing to contribute to the fund as a way to “help good builders and developers to recover from the crisis.”

Recall that Sun previously indicated an interest in assisting FTX with funds following reports of the exchange’s insolvency issues and its liquidity crunch predicament. Following reports of FTX’s bankruptcy filing, notable crypto influencer BitBoy asserted that Sam Bankman-Fried had extorted billions from Justin Sun and subsequently filed for bankruptcy, as The Crypto Basic recently reported.

LUNC community remains dedicated to ensuring the asset’s revival as burns and staking remain on track, with total burns exceeding 27B with up to 850B LUNC staked, as previously The Crypto Basic reported.

Did Vitalik Buterin Just Send 20M DOGE To The Dogecoin Foundation?

0

Vitalik Buterin may have made a 20 million DOGE donation to the Dogecoin foundation.

Vitalik Buterin donated 20 million DOGE to the Dogecoin foundation on November 2, according to on-chain data shared by @CalisCihan in a tweet yesterday.

Reputable Dogecoin news sharer Mishaboar confirmed the transaction hours later, sharing a link to view the transaction on Dogecoin Explorer.

Notably, @CalisCihan speculates that the Dogecoin foundation may have sold the tokens on the same day as on-chain data shows that the foundation sent the 20 million DOGE to an exchange address hours later. @CalisCohan speculates that the Dogecoin Foundation may have sold the tokens as, at the time, DOGE was enjoying a massive rally thanks to Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover.

It is worth noting that neither the Dogecoin Foundation nor Vitalik Buterin has made any announcements regarding the donation. Meanwhile, @CalisCihan expressed disappointment that the foundation did not return 5 million DOGE collected from the DOGE tip jar last year to cover Dogecoin Foundation expenses. Notably, the tip jar was initially intended to support four Dogecoin core developers.

Both @CalisCihan and Mishaboar have different speculations as to the timing. While @CalisCihan believes there might be a link between the donation and the launch of the long-anticipated DOGE ETH bridge, which Buterin collaborated on, Mishaboar points to the Dogecoin Hackathon as a possible incentive.

The 20 million DOGE donation worth about $2.9 million on November 2 comes in addition to a donation of about 500 ETH in May by the Ethereum founder. It bears mentioning that Buterin also serves as a blockchain advisor to the foundation.

For clarity, the Dogecoin Foundation is an independent entity that supports the Dogecoin network through advocacy and non-blockchain or core development efforts.

Several users have expressed excitement at the latest development despite the donation’s purpose remaining unclear.

New NFT Market Place Set To Launch On Terra Classic

0

MIATA, an NFT marketplace, will launch on Terra Classic today.

In a tweet yesterday, popular community validator LUNC DAO disclosed that MIATA, an NFT marketplace, is set to launch on the Terra Classic network today.

The community has scheduled an ask me anything session for 9 pm UTC to discuss the launch. LUNC DAO will host it alongside community influencer and validator Classy.

MIATA’s launch will also see the minting of 2000 MetaGloria NFTs, which users can buy and sell on the marketplace.

It is worth noting that MetaGloria is a play-to-earn role-playing game set to launch on the Terra Classic Network in early 2023. A team of Ukrainian game developers and crypto enthusiasts are behind the project, with the aim of onboarding gamers to the crypto industry and burning excess Terra Luna Classic supply, per details on its website.

The MetaGloria project will mint two collections of 3000 unique NFTs. In addition, NFTs will have over 100 individual traits, according to the MetaGloria website.

The project says users will be able to burn LUNC when the game launches by swapping it for an in-game token called GLS.

MetaGloria is one of many NFT projects set to launch on the Terra Classic network and the MIATA marketplace. For example, LUNC validator HappyCattyCrypto also disclosed that the LUNCPenguins NFT collection would be launching soon on MIATA in a tweet on Saturday.

The collection of 1000 unique NFTs will have a minting price of 200k LUNC, about $34 at current rates, according to HappyCattyCrypto. Notably, users will also be able to receive rewards by staking their tokens, attracting more yields for rarity.

Unsurprisingly, members of the LUNC community have expressed excitement at the latest developments. One user notably thanked developers for building on the Terra Classic chain.

The NFT marketplace launch represents a significant step in the network’s shift towards utility to find more effective ways to burn LUNC, providing users with more exciting and valuable ways to use their tokens. Notably, the Terra Rebels launched a lottery game over two weeks ago that has so far burned over 18.5 million LUNC and rewarded winners with over 38 million LUNC in prizes.

Hoskinson Slams Critic, Says His Predictions for Cardano “Came True”

0

Hoskinson knocks a troll by highlighting Cardano’s achievements.

Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, is a cryptocurrency entrepreneur who is not afraid to address critics while giving them a dose of their medicine. Hoskinson recently slammed a critic who mocked him for not keeping to his words and not living up to the expectations of Cardano users.

The critic, who goes by the pseudonym Mr. Charles, shared a screenshot of a 2020 tweet made by Hoskinson. In the tweet, Hoskinson assured Cardano enthusiasts that the leading blockchain projects will achieve significant milestones the following year, including having thousands of decentralized applications and hundreds of assets with lots of utilities.

“Blah blah blah more under promises, Under deliver Brother,” the critic captioned Hoskinson’s prediction for 2021.

Hoskinson Blasts the Troll With Facts

After the post got nine retweets and 20 likes, Hoskinson gave a resounding reply to silence the critic. Responding to the tweet, Hoskinson noted that the great irony of the “babbling i*iots” happily retweeting the post is that his predictions for Cardano came to pass.

According to Hoskinson, the Cardano network boasts 6 million native assets and 3.6 million wallets, and more than 100 decentralized applications, with over 1,000 dAps currently being developed.

“So yeah it actually came true. Please tell the world that you’re stu**d,” Hoskinson said.

Hoskinson is known for always responding to criticism regardless of who the critic is. His response is mainly focused on criticisms that undermine the Cardano project’s progress and achievements.

In the past few months, Hoskinson has engaged in a war of words with Terra founder Do Kwon and Mike Novogratz, the CEO of Galaxy Digital.

During the period when Solana was faced with a network outage, Hoskinson recommended an old Nintendo game fix to Solana developers as a possible way to fix the problem.

Cardano Records Significant Milestones

Cardano has recorded significant milestones over its more than five years of existence. It is noteworthy that Cardano has not experienced any downtime since going live in 2017. This feat is a result of the unending developments being conducted by the professionals at Input Output Global (IOG), the company responsible for Cardano’s research and development.

Interestingly, the IOG has continued to make important additions to the team. Earlier this month, TheCryptoBasic reported that Dr. Vanishree Rao, the lead developer of Mina Protocol, joined the Cardano team as Head of Cryptography. Cardano has frequently led other top cryptocurrency projects like Ethereum and Solana in development activities.

Furthermore, Cardano’s unending growth has also helped the project to rank ahead of thousands of cryptocurrencies in terms of social and market activities.

FTX Japan Holds Over 65M XRP In Cold Wallet Reserves

0

FTX Japan released a breakdown of user assets on the exchange, asserting that its reserves are larger than user deposits.

FTX Japan shared a breakdown of user assets and reserves in a tweet yesterday, showing that its cold wallet reserves are greater than customer deposits.

For example, its customer XRP balance per the table sits at 64.1 million XRP, while its cold wallet reserve sits at 65.9 million XRP. Consequently, users are left wondering why they can not withdraw their holdings as the Japanese arm of the embattled crypto exchange says withdrawals in Yen remain suspended.

Unsurprisingly, users are worried about their deposits in light of FTX bankruptcy proceedings in the US. FTX Japan was among the over 130 affiliate companies in the FTX Group chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. As a result, customers have raised concerns over the possibility of the exchange using their funds to settle other debtors.

FTX Japan, on its part, continues to assert that its customers’ funds are kept separate following Japanese law. Notably, Japanese regulators have also stated that they are working to ensure the preservation of the funds of Japanese customers, per a Reuters Japan report.

It bears mentioning that Japan’s Financial Service Agency placed a business suspension on the exchange last Thursday, citing a suspension of withdrawals with no prior notice to customers while still onboarding new users and taking deposits. The moratorium prevents the crypto exchange from onboarding new users till December 10. Notably, authorities have also requested the company to submit a “business improvement plan” by November 16.

FTX announced on November 11 that, along with over 130 affiliates, it was filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy in the US. It came after a bank run on its global exchange FTX.com confirmed reports about shady financials at the company. The firm and its former CEO, Sam Bankman-Fried, are currently under investigation in the US and the Bahamas, where it incorporated its headquarters.
