Messari CEO Calls SEC Ignoring Bitcoin Spot ETF A Fraud

Messari CEO bashes SEC for not approving Bitcoin Spot ETF.

Ryan Selkis, CEO and founder of crypto market intelligence provider Messari, is the latest to reprimand the SEC. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has been on the receiving end of criticisms from crypto proponents. Selkis, one of the most vocal crypto enthusiasts, recently lambasted the regulatory body for failing to approve Grayscale’s Bitcoin spot ETF application.

On Tuesday, Ryan Selkis called the SEC’s rejection of Grayscale’s BTC spot ETF application a fraudulent move. Selkis pointed out that Grayscale investors have had losses of $7B due to the SEC’s decision. “$7B has been lost to the SEC’s fraud in failing to approve a spot ETF at the expense of Grayscale investors,” he said.

Comparing it with the $1B lost to obvious scams in the space in 2021, Selkis highlighted that the SEC’s actions had done more damage to crypto investors than these scams. Speaking further, the American entrepreneur and investor asserted that SEC Chair Gary Gensler does not care about investor protection.

Selkis also argued that Gensler’s actions are not driven by a desire to promote capital formation or make the markets fair. He mentioned that Gensler instead cares for power. Selkis argues based on recent unfavorable moves from the SEC against crypto entities.

The SEC Vs. Grayscale

In June, the SEC denied Grayscale Investments’ application to convert its Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) to a BTC spot ETF. Grayscale made the application in October of last year, but the SEC has since then delayed its approval. After waiting and making required adjustments for months, Grayscale faced a rejection two months back.

According to the SEC, the rejection was due to several reasons, including insufficient answers to queries on market manipulation prevention. In response, Grayscale charged the SEC to court on the same day. The investment firm requested that the U.S. Court of Appeals consider the regulator’s decision for possible review.

The decision by the SEC to reject the Spot ETF application has denied Grayscale’s individual and institutional investors an opportunity to get easy access to direct BTC investments. The GBTC trust only gives clients a chance to make investments backed by BTC derivatives contracts. This is the foundation of Ryan Selkis’ assertion.

CryptoQuant Analyst Forecasts High Returns on DCA Accumulation of Bitcoin at These Levels

Accumulation Through Aggressive DCA in These Zones Can Bring High Potential Returns in the Next 6 Months/1 year.

Bitcoin (BTC) is currently witnessing extensive underperformance, with several metrics reaching bottom levels. Nonetheless, most of these metrics also provide a silver lining: an attractive accumulation zone for BTC. The BTC ratio of supply in profit, in particular, signals a strong point of accumulation that could lead to proper returns.

Per details by crypto data analytics platform CryptoQuant, most BTC holders are currently at a loss. The chart which indicates the percentage of supply in profit or loss has fallen to a value of 50.9. According to a CryptoQuant analyst, this indicates that most market participants are at a loss.

In addition, the analyst also highlighted that this metric provides a strong indication of market bottoms. “With high net losses, the sales force is gradually being exhausted, offering an opportunity for bulls to guide reversals,” the analyst said. However, he added that an exhaustion of the sales force could take months, indicating that investors should expect a reversal in the long term.

In conclusion, he noted that investors should grab the opportunity by accumulating BTC through dollar-cost averaging (DCA). The analyst says that gradually buying Bitcoin on every dip from $20,000 downwards could yield high returns. According to him, this technique could produce some heightened returns in the next six months to 1 year.

Dollar-cost averaging involves the periodic investments of an investor’s funds in an asset to hedge against price fluctuations. The investor systematically invests his fund’s bit by bit instead of all at once.

Additionally, the Net Unrealized Profit and Loss (NUPL) indicator shows that most BTC holders are witnessing unrealized losses. The NUPL metric has a value of -0.089 – its lowest value in August. This indicates that most BTC investors are at a loss, corroborating data from the BTC Supply in Profit chart.

Bitcoin’s recent price actions represent growing strength amidst a bearish takeover. The asset has shown strong resilience despite crashing below the major support at $20k. BTC quickly bounced back after its fall and has remained above $20k in intraday movements. BTC currently trades at 20,321 against the dollar as of press time, with a slight decline of 0.28% in the past 24 hours.

New US Federal Reserve Instant Payment System ‘FedNow’ Will Not Use XRP

0

US Federal Reserve’s upcoming FedNow is not using XRP as a bridge currency.

Despite recent tweets making the rounds, the Fed will not use XRP within FedNow, its latest payment initiative system launching in mid-2023, as it has nothing to do with cross-border payments that involve two different currencies.

Notably, XRP content creator Crypto Eri has joined the likes of Moon Lambo to express frustration at XRP influencers spreading misinformation to drive hype.

“This 2023 FedNow launch has nothing to do with cross-border flows,” Crypto Eri asserts in a tweet.

Famous XRP influencer Moon Lambo Writes:

“Many XRP influencers are misleading the XRP community. Not sure if it’s intentional. In order to believe that XRP is (or might be) used within the FedNow system, you have to have a fundamental misunderstanding of how XRP functions as a bridge currency and a liquidity tool.

XRP can be used as a bridge currency to connect different payment systems (converting from 1 fiat currency to another), including FedNow, but that has nothing to do with the idea of XRP being used within the United States FedNow payment system which is domestic only at launch.”

It bears mentioning that in recent days, some XRP influencers, in response to the news of the Fed rolling out the FedNow service, have insinuated and sometimes clearly claimed that XRP will be utilized as a bridge currency in the system. Notably, The XRP Daily, a self-acclaimed XRP news platform, published an article on Tuesday, driving speculation by forcing links between the Fed project and Ripple.

In his pinned tweet, Ripple Influencer Alex Cobb, with over 134,000 followers on Twitter, shares The XRP Daily article championing it as good news for Ripple and its native token XRP, urging users to retweet the post.

While another Ripple influencer with over 133,000 followers, JackTheRippler, shared a graphic representation of how the FedNow system is supposed to work using XRP with no verifiable source. JackTheRippler asserts, “FedNow will use CBDC powered by XRP as a bridge currency!”

It is worth noting that the FedNow system is an instant payment system that will allow individuals and businesses to carry out instant payments within the US. While FedNow uses the ISO 20022 standard like RippleNet, it is not based on the blockchain. Instead, FedNow will work with 3rd party companies and banks.

The main link between Ripple and the FedNow system remains that in February, Ripple client Volante Technologies, a cloud-based payment company, was added to the FedNow payments pilot program.

While Ripple is a company that specializes in payments and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), its focus lies in cross-border settlements, which utilize its On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) to use XRP as a bridge between two currencies. Most recently, Ripple entered into a partnership with Coins.ph and OK Remit to facilitate cross-border payments between Japan and the Philippines.

Notably, Ripple remains in a legal battle with the US SEC.
