CryptoCom CEO Dismisses Ongoing Rumors About Exchange’s Plan to Halt Withdrawals

CryptoCom CEO says we are not banning any withdrawals.

In light of rumors that Crypto.com is facing a liquidity crisis, Kris Marszalek, CEO of the leading exchange, has dismissed the report, describing these claims as false clickbait.

In a Twitter update, Marszalek said despite the exchange’s effort to scale its public unit and organization exercise, rumor mongers have continued to spread fake news about the trading platform.

“I have seen two just this week — that we are slowing down withdrawals and running special deposit promotions. This is all false clickbait,” Marszalek said.

He went further to assure its users that there is no change in exchange withdrawal policy as reported across various social media platforms, adding that no special deposit promotions are ongoing as reported.

“Our withdrawal policy is the same as it always was, we didn’t implement any new restrictions. We don’t run special deposit promotions (and we make sure all regular ones that we do run are profitable),” Marszalek added.

Marszalek: Crypto.Com Will Record Huge Profit This Year

The Crypto.Com CEO assured users that regardless of the FUDs, the cryptocurrency exchange will still finish ahead of other trading platforms in terms of revenue this year.

Crypto.Com Affected By Ongoing Crypto Winter

Meanwhile, Marszalek’s Twitter update does not rule out the possibility that Crypto.com is also affected by the ongoing crypto winter.

Crypto.Com is one of the cryptocurrency-related companies affected by the ongoing crypto winter. Like Coinbase, Crypto.com announced that it is laying off 260 employees, representing 5% of its total work strength to cope with the massive slash in digital currency prices.

Based on the development, it is not surprising to see negative reports being fabricated about the exchange.

Negative Reports Plague the Crypto Industry

The cryptocurrency market has been plagued with a series of Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubts (FUDs), following the numerous unfortunate developments that have rocked the nascent industry in recent times.

Before now, crypto investors were only faced with the issue of losing the value of their crypto asset holdings due to sell-offs. Lately, investors now risk losing access to their funds stored on different cryptocurrency platforms.

Cryptocurrency trading platforms that initially denied reports of plans to halt withdrawals later made a U-turn to deny users access to funds, a perfect example is crypto lender Vauld.

Last month, Celsius Network was among the first crypto trading firms to announce it would be halting token withdrawals, swaps, and transfers on its platform, citing unfavorable market conditions. At the time, users were left with no choice but to see the value of their assets on the platform decline amid the massive volatility in the crypto market.

Hacker offers To Sell Data Of One Billion Chinese Residents for 10 Bitcoins

An anonymous individual or organization is selling what they claim to be information on a billion Chinese residents for about $200,000.

According to NY Times, An anonymous hacker is offering to sell a database belonging to the Shanghai police department for 10 BTC, which is roughly $200,00 at today’s price. This database is said to contain information on around one billion Chinese residents, making it one of the greatest known data breaches involving personal information.

Given the magnitude of such data and the effect it might have, a lot of individuals in the crypto field were first skeptical of the hacker’s assertion that it was true. However, the hacker published some of the data in order to demonstrate how extensive the breach was.

Among the personal information released by the hacker were the names, gender, address, and ID number of more than one billion Chinese citizens. In some cases, people’s occupation, marital status, ethnicity, educational attainment, and even whether or not they’ve been designated as a “key person” by the country’s public security ministry could be found.

In addition, Binance’s Changpeng Zhao, also known as “CZ,” turned to Twitter to make the announcement that the company’s threat intelligence team had found resident data available for purchase on the dark web. Although, he did not specify which nation was involved. He concluded that a fault in the software of a government agency that made use of an “Elasticsearch” algorithm was to blame for the data breach.

News of the attack sparked a flurry of conjecture among Chinese security experts about how it may have occurred. Official statements from the Shanghai police have not yet been made. Security experts who have spoken out are alarmed by the scope of the breach and the sensitivity of the exposed data, which includes details of criminal activities. According to CZ “this exploit happened because the gov developer wrote a tech blog on CSDN and accidentally included the credentials.”

In the past few years, the government of China has made significant efforts to tighten rules over a lax sector that has contributed to the growth of online fraud. However, the emphasis of this enforcement has often been on corporations in the technology industry.

The government, which has always had difficulty successfully protecting the mountains of data it gathers on its constituents, is often spared from the stringent regulations and penalties that are intended for online companies.

Cryptocurrency Crash Affects US States Tax Payment Plans via Bitcoin

The Recent Crash of Cryptocurrencies Puts a Damper on State Attempts to Accept Taxes in Bitcoin.

According to a recent report by Bloomberg, two states in the United States were moving forward with plans that would allow taxes to be paid in cryptocurrencies, but the concept has been shelved nearly everywhere else in the aftermath of the crisis that has wiped out tens of hundreds of billions of dollars in of crypto assets.

The article added that virtual currency tax payment systems for companies and people are being developed by the revenue departments in Colorado and Utah and are expected to be implemented over the next few months. Some practical issues still need to be worked out before the two Western states’ plans can go into effect.

Because of the sell-off, the global cryptocurrency market’s worth has fallen to less than $1 trillion from a high of $3 trillion in November. In only a few days, the value of Bitcoin has fallen by over 75 percent.

At least six other states have contemplated following Colorado and Utah’s footsteps, but after the fall, the chorus of experts, watchdogs, academics, and crypto critics are now urging legislators against putting the state’s finances and taxpayers in danger.

Lee Reiners, executive director of Duke University’s Global Financial Markets Center told Bloomberg:

“Anything involving crypto is less appealing in the wake of the massive volatility we’ve seen over the last month, and frankly the last six months, I don’t know if that slows momentum at the state level for payment of taxes, but it doesn’t help. And there is no financial benefit to the states to permit it.”

However, the regular monetary system and the realm of cryptocurrencies may connect with one another via the use of payment gateways.

They provide a very important function by fixing the exact dollar value of a coin at the time of the transaction. If they did not accomplish this, the tax authorities may find themselves short of money in the blink of an eye.

However, as Crypto Winter is about to set in, momentum has been steadily decreasing. The fall of the market also raises some practical difficulties regarding the viability of the tactics used by Colorado and Utah.

Jed McCaleb Ripple Stash Falls Below 50M, Will be Empty In Nine Days

In nine days, Jed McCaleb’s Ripple stash will be completely depleted.

According to recent sources, Ripple’s former Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Jed McCaleb’s current daily sales of XRP are on course to be totally empty in nine days, and he now only owns 45 million XRP.

Jed McCaleb, the co-creator of Ripple Labs and a former CTO of Ripple, has been actively selling XRP, and the data suggests that there is a deadline by which he will be through with it.

McCaleb was a member of the core team that was responsible for the creation of Ripple in 2013. However, he eventually parted ways with the firm the following year, in 2014, and launched yet another blockchain project known as Stellar. Ripple compensated him with about 9 billion XRP coins prior to his departure from the firm.

In February of 2021, there were rumors indicating that McCaleb was selling significant amounts of XRP. According to XRPscan, McCaleb’s “Tacostand” wallet sold 38 million XRP, or $22 million, on February 14.

It was hypothesized that McCaleb’s XRP hoard would be depleted by May of 2021 if the selling pace remained the same as when it began. Meanwhile, the sales did not continue at that pace, and McCaleb’s wallet still has 45 million XRP, which is now worth a little bit more than $14 million.

At one time, McCaleb was prohibited from selling his XRP tokens owing to an agreement with Ripple Labs that required him to keep his crypto assets frozen in order to reduce the volatility of XRP. For example, when McCaleb sold $1.22 billion of XRP coins in February of last year, it was evident how much effect that had on XRP’s price

Four days after recovering from $0.28, its lowest level since January 2021, the price of XRP rose roughly 30 percent on June 24. According to recent analyses, the token’s retracement recovery might reach $0.41 next. At the time of writing, one XRP is worth $0.3197.

Ripple Backs Digital Euro Association Major Event To Develop Work in CBDC Area

Ripple continues to show support for CBDC initiatives.

The Digital Euro Association, in a tweet on Tuesday, revealed that blockchain company and payments giant Ripple is one of the sponsors of its summer event starting next week.

“Next week, we are hosting our first of many DEA summerfests, generously sponsored by @EYnews, @Ripple and Bundesdruckerei and set up in collaboration with @fsblockchain,” tweeted the group. “We express our thanks to our sponsors who are decisively contributing to the success of the summerfest!”

The DEA is an independent think-tank focused on contributing to the digital euro discourse through research and education. Notably, Ripple became a partner of the association in February and is the only one ranked as a “Supporting Gold Member.”

“We are excited to join the Digital Euro Association as a supporting partner to further develop our work in the CBDC area. The DEA is working across Europe and global markets to drive the development and growth of CBDCs and, specifically, the Digital Euro,” said VP of Central Bank Engagements at Ripple James Wallis at the time.

Ripple has been a long-time supporter of the idea of CBDCs. Aside from the DEA, the firm also boasts of a partnership with the Digital Pound Association, which it joined in 2021. Additionally, Ripple also has a history of working with different governments to come up with CBDC solutions.

Earlier this month, the payments giant launched a CBDC hackathon dubbed Ripple CBDC Innovate with an initial $47,000 prize pool and an extra $150,000 prize pool at an exclusive winners-only event. The hackathon will focus on interoperability, retail-facing, and financial inclusion.

Presently, China remains far ahead of other developed countries in CBDC development as it has already started carrying out large-scale tests. In contrast, others remain in different stages of CBDC research.

Earlier this year, the US Fed released a paper on the subject but refrained from taking an official stance, urging the public to submit opinions. Meanwhile, in his famous crypto executive order in March, Biden urged related government agencies to consider the idea seriously.

It is worth noting that the public, especially the crypto faithful, remains split on the idea of CBDCs. While many agree that it will offer a cheap and more efficient transfer of value, some argue that stablecoins are already filling this role, raising concerns over increased government oversight and privacy risks.

MATIC Leads Market Recovery, Soars 15% After HTC Launches Metaverse Phone Supporting Polygon

MATIC records over 15% gains following the launch of HTC Desire 22 Pro, which supports Polygon-based assets.

The price of Polygon (MATIC) has surged more than 15% in the last 24 hours amid a recovery in the broader cryptocurrency market. Polygon saw the value of its native cryptocurrency soar to a high of $0.53 in the last 24 hours after falling below $0.46.

MATIC Becomes Biggest Gainer Among Top 50 Cryptocurrencies

However, at press time, MATIC’s value has dropped to $0.51, representing a 12% increase in the past day. MATIC’s tremendous growth makes it rank among the biggest gainers over the past 24 hours, moving more than Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), etc.

It is interesting to see MATIC rank as the top gainer among the top 50 largest cryptocurrencies by market capitalization.

Polygon boasts of a market capitalization of $4.1 billion and currently sits as the 18-largest cryptocurrency, according to data on Coingecko.

What’s Fueling MATIC’s Price

MATIC is becoming increasingly popular among crypto investors by the day, as Polygon continues to proffer solutions to the usability and scalability problems inherent in the Ethereum blockchain.

Although Polygon is currently changing hands at a lower price compared to its all-high of $2.9 recorded on December 27, 2021, the digital currency’s recent growth is commendable especially as cryptocurrencies continue to fight for their survival in the ongoing crypto winter.

It is not surprising to see MATIC record good gains as crypto investors’ interest in Web3 applications spike, with Polygon positioning itself as one of the biggest beneficiaries of Web3 applications.

HTC Launches Metaverse Phones for Polygon Assets

Popular mobile phone manufacturer HTC announced the launch of its metaverse phone, Desire 22 Pro, which features Polygon and Ethereum support.

The 8GB RAM and 128 GB storage device comes with the Viverse app and Vive wallet and allows users to manage their Ethereum and Polygon assets, including non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

Mihailo Bjelic, the co-founder of Polygon, took to Twitter to announce the development.

“Mass adoption of Web3 will happen on mobile and @0xPolygon is preparing for it. Our strategy is not to make our own devices. Instead, we will integrate with existing manufacturers. Today, we are proud to announce the first major integration.”  Bjelic said.

Cardano Founder Teases ADA Community About An Important Feature of Vasil Hard Fork

0

Cardano’s founder describes Vasil’s upgrade as Cardano’s next wave.

There is so much hype around the upcoming Vasil upgrade and it has continued to make the Cardano community anticipate its full rollout.

In a recent Twitter post, Charles Hoskinson, Cardano’s Input Output Global (IOG) CEO describes the upcoming Vasil upgrade as “Cardano’s next wave.”

Hoskinson’s comment is in response to a post made by Sebastien Guillemot, the co-founder of blockchain company dcSpark, who shared insights about an important feature of the upcoming Vasil upgrade – the migration of new tokens from Ethereum to Cardano.

“Did you know that until now, a lot of ERC20 tokens just technically weren’t able to be ported to Cardano because of missing functionality? The Vasil update will allow a new class of tokens to be ported over — notably non-custodial token, stablecoins & stateful tokens,” Guillemot said.

Guillemot said moving new tokens from ETH or ERC20 tokens to Cardano would only be supported at the protocol level during Vasil’s initial deployment. However, it would require more time before developers could build tooling for the movement of new types of tokens from the Ethereum blockchain to Cardano.

Responding to the post, Cardano’s founder said: “coming this month, Cardano’s next wave!”

ADA Investors Anticipate Vasil Rollout Amid Massive Hype

Vasil is considered one of the most important upgrades of the ADA ecosystem as it is expected to enhance Cardano’s performance.

The upgrade is tipped to boost Cardano’s speed, security, scalability, and smart contract functionality, among others.

With these mouthwatering features, Cardano enthusiasts had anticipated its official rollout last month. However, they were disappointed after the development team announced that it has postponed Vasil’s mainnet launch to the end of this month.

The IOG noted that the move is imperative to identify all issues associated with the upgrade before it is officially launched.

Although Vasil is yet to go live, the Cardano founder recently chose the upgrade as his most defining moment of the year.

“It’s always difficult to define one key moment but the Vasil Hard Fork is pretty significant,” Hoskinson said in an interview with London-based media outlet City A.M.
