Swift Payments, Stocks, Oil, And Bitcoin: How Will They All React To Russia Ukraine War

0

Russia Ukraine war can have some destructive impacts on the entire world.

Possible Sanctions against Russia negotiated by the US and its European allies might take effect. It is not known exactly what they would be, but it is believed that Russian banks will be harmed. This could increase the selling of Russian stocks, especially harming its banks, as foreign investors flee.

As countries across the world ask their citizens to leave Ukraine, there are considerations on the table that Russia might be kicked out of the Swift payments system.

Breaking live reports: “French presidency official: possible sanctions targeting Russia’s access to the swift payments system are under consideration, but we must be careful not to hasten Russia’s rupture with Europe.”

Swift: The Swift development came after Emmanuel Macron, the French president, made a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and notified him of possible sanctions. Putin is clearly not pleased to hear that a Swift usage sanction is under consideration.

If Russia is cut off, it could exclude them from global trade. In 2018, Russia announced plans to create its own Swift system with blockchain technology, but Putin has been busy for the past two decades with programmers like Pavel Durov, the creator of telegram.

Therefore, it is doubtful that they have the necessary skills to really carry out a self-made Swift payment system to a satisfactory standard that can satisfy the requirements of such an enormous Russian population.

A Russian Swift system would therefore likely be an insufficient outcome if they are banned from Swift, but Russia can probably still trade globally as it is hoarding gold and can always buy bitcoin – although its central bank does not like the cryptocurrency. This trade, however, would obviously be much more limited than with Swift.

Oil and Gas: The price of oil can rise as it briefly did in 2014 when Russia invaded Crimea, but then it could fall if Saudi Arabia floods the market.

Venezuela ended up paying for this invasion of Crimea as it plunged into hyperinflation after the oil price crash in 2014. Who would pay this time for an invasion of Ukraine is unclear.

Gas could also drop as Arabs flood the market, with the US and Qatar recently in talks as this resource-rich small nation shows some intelligence.

Bonds would be barred, you would think, with the question of whether just government bonds or corporate bonds as well.

Russia’s debt to GDP ratio is only 20%, but that’s still a lot of money that could become more expensive with the ruble likely to drop perhaps beyond 100% to the dollar and beyond, exacerbating already high inflation at 8.7%.

Bitcoin: Bitcoin can go up because unlike Putin’s $100 million yachts that recently left Germany for Kaliningrad, you can easily hedge bitcoin.

How much the price could rise is anyone’s guess, as Russia’s GDP is less than $1.5 trillion, while Ukraine’s GDP is as large as Greece’s at around $200 billion.

But some in Russia have more money than others, with some likely betting on cryptocurrencies, which would be a decent asset under such circumstances.

Global trade is unlikely to be affected, although tensions in the Black Sea could potentially spillover.

There are unconfirmed reports that the movement of ships in both directions on the Bosphorus was temporarily suspended earlier today due to the tumble of the Liberian-flagged dry cargo ship Cheng May.

Three Russian warships passed the Bosphorus earlier this week, with three more on the way. In Kiev, documents are being burned at the US embassy as it is being evacuated, according to Bild.

Russian Invasion: Monday, therefore, could be a little volatile for markets, but we won’t have a good idea until Tuesday when German Chancellor Olaf Scholz meets with Putin.

As far as is known, he is the latest to go to Moscow at this time. The Americans say they have information, or perhaps it is disinformation from the Russians, that they will invade Ukraine the next day, Wednesday.

A rally was held in Ukraine to show a united front with the Russians in 2014 holding protests against the war in Ukraine, but they are being told there will not be an invasion, although they are worried about the consequences.

If there is an invasion, the Americans are saying there will be aerial bombings, with Boris Johnson, the British prime minister, previously calling it a blitzkrieg.

The Ukrainian army will fight, says its defense minister, as the world watches and wonders how will happen.

The price of bread could rise worldwide if war breaks out in Ukraine, known as the “breadbasket of Europe” and the US and Australia. And much of the wheat leaves the country via the Crimean peninsula. They account for about 30% of global corn production, with their vast fields.

Whale Alert: BNB Whale Purchase Bought 139,929,254,883 Shiba Inu Tokens (SHIB).

Whale investors are not slowing down in their accumulation of Shiba Inu (SHIB) tokens, as the cryptocurrency continues to prove that it is not a memecoin.

In the late hours of yesterday, a large amount of Binance Coin (BNB) was exchanged for SHIBs on Binance Smart Chain-based PancakeSwap.

Whale Stats reports that the trader bought a total of 139,929,254,883 SHIBs (139B), worth around $4,232,859 (4.2M) when the purchase was made.

At the time of the purchase, each unit of SHIB was acquired at an average price of $0.00003026, however, following the correction of Bitcoin (BTC), the value of SHIB alongside others have fallen a bit.

Shib Whales Increase Amid Price Dip

The number of whales holding the dog-themed cryptocurrency has been on the increase since its price has fallen 66.3% from its all-time high value of $0.00008616.

Whales sees the drop in price as an opportunity to increase their position in SHIB as the token has proven to be a utility cryptocurrency for holders.

Like other digital currencies in the market, the price of Shiba Inu has been affected by the incessant correction that has rocked the market since the beginning of the year.

On January 22, 2022, the price of a unit of Shiba Inu fell as low as $0.00001900, representing its lowest for the year.

Whale Accumulation Pumps SHIB Price

However, the constant accumulation of Shiba Inu by whale traders has continued to push its price to higher heights.

Last month, TheCryptoBasic reported that the third-largest Shiba Inu whale trader purchased another massive 58,900,000,000 SHIBs to increase his holdings.

Several whale investors have been accumulating SHIB throughout the year, as these high networth traders prepare themselves for a massive surge of the token in the coming months.

As Shiba Inu continues to prove that it is not a memecoin, a title given to crypto projects created out of an internet joke, it is expected that more whale traders will accumulate the cryptocurrency, pushing its price to a greater heights.

The CIP-35 Proposal

Tim Harrison, director of IOHK Communications, disclosed that the core developers’ team had made a new proposal dubbed CIP-35 for the Plutus smart contract platform.

The proposed upgrade will usher in improving Plutus core and interface pages.

According to the CIP-35 proposal, a more explicit structure will enable smart contract developers building on Cardano to change and upgrade their codes in time.

With CIP-35, shortcuts will be added to the system to enable developers to make changes and upgrade their codes by taking shorter routes.

Furthermore, the CIP-35 proposal will also bolster speed for new updates in the Plutus smart contract, further enhancing transaction processing time for all protocols connected to the network.

Ethereum Founder Vitalik Buterin Writes In Russian,  Plea Russia Not To Go For War

0

Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin wrote in Russian about the possibility of a war between Russia and Ukraine, expressing hope for a “wise” decision by the Kremlin.

He wrote:

“An attack on Ukraine can only harm Russia, Ukraine, and humanity. Whether the situation can return to a peaceful path or a war can now be decided not by Zelensky, not by NATO, but by the Kremlin. I hope they choose wisely.”

Former NSA and CIA officer Edward Snowden said the media supports the war.

“There is nothing more grotesque than the media advocating war,” he wrote.

According to Reuters, the United States, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, Latvia, Norway, Netherlands, Montenegro, and South Korea called on their citizens to leave Ukraine.

According to various reports, Russia has allegedly amassed more than 100,000 troops on the border with Ukraine, but Moscow denies plans for an invasion.

The United States CIA will brief NATO on fears of an invasion on February 16th. According to Politico, the exact date was announced by President Joe Biden for a conversation with NATO partners and the EU. The spark came as Jake Sullivan, the White House national security adviser, warned Friday afternoon that Russia could attack Ukraine “any day now,” with Russia’s military prepared to begin an invasion if ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Geopolitical instability is one of the key market drivers. Cryptocurrencies, in this case, are also no exception and, most likely, will repeat the dynamics of other risky assets, reacting to the fear of investors. Stock And Crypto Markets Feeling The Heat As Russia Prepares To Invade Ukraine.

5 Factors That Proves Shiba Inu (SHIB) Is Not A Memecoin

0

The cryptocurrency community quickly class different digital currencies based on their use cases. Coins and tokens initially designed with a clear use case are classified as digital assets of real value, while others are categorized as shitcoins or meme coins.

What is a Memecoin?

For clarity, a meme coin is a cryptocurrency created as a mere joke or based on memes. Usually, cryptocurrency investors are not supposed to be heavily invested in these types of crypto projects since they do not have any use case.

However, the massive surge in value recorded in the first-ever meme coin Dogecoin in 2020 has prompted several traders to throw large amounts of capital into digital currencies inspired by internet jokes.

The launch of Dogecoin in 2013 and its massive growth in popularity gave rise to the development of new sets of cryptocurrencies referred to as meme coins.

Shiba Inu (SHIB) is one of the cryptocurrencies launched as a experiment but labeled meme.

Shiba Inu History

The dog-themed cryptocurrency is a direct replica of Dogecoin and was immediately classed as a meme coin when it launched.

Launched in August 2020 by Shytoshi Kusama, Shiba Inu was referred to as the Dogecoin killer by the SHIBArmy, a title given to the cryptocurrency supporters.

Since there was no clear use case for the coin, the crypto community quickly added it to the memecoin list, with many believing that the asset class would eventually die a natural death soon.

Shiba Inu Community Rejects Memecoin Title

In contrast to the description of Shiba Inu as a memecoin, the cryptocurrency has transitioned from being a coin with no real use case into one of the most disruptive asset classes in the crypto market.

Interestingly, Shiba Inu (SHIB), the cryptocurrency initially started as a joke, has grown into a digital currency with real utility.

Following several developments for the crypto project, its community of vibrant enthusiasts has, on several occasions, rejected the meme coin title as the token is widely used in payments among several initiatives that have been unveiled for the project.

Five Reasons Why Shiba Inu Is Not a Memecoin

This section will take a deep dive into some of the factors that have seen Shiba Inu become more than just a meme coin into a cryptocurrency with stronger use cases.

  1. Shiba Inu Use as a Payment Method

With a solid community behind Shiba Inu, online merchants and physical stores have deemed it fit to add cryptocurrency as a payment method in a bid to boost sales. Following the support of Shiba Inu on popular cryptocurrency payment provider BitPay, SHIBArmy can now pay for goods in different online stores using SHIB on their BitPay app.

With the addition of SHIB as a payment method on BitPay, the Shiba Inu community can now use the cryptocurrency to purchase goods and services on Jeff Bezos’ Amazon, Shopify, Google Play, Uber, Hotels.com, AMC Theater, Newegg, as well as Travala.

BitPay’s support for Shiba Inu comes after the cryptocurrency’s growing supporters, and AMC Theater convinced the crypto payment provider to add the dog-themed token to its list of supported coins.

In an exciting development, Italian-based sandwich restaurant Welly’s announced that it would be accepting SHIB. Still, it took cryptocurrency adoption to a whole new level by rebranding its logo. The move prompted the SHIBArmy to refer to the restaurant as a SHIB Branded Food Chain.

2. Shiba Inu Decentralized Exchange

Like other popular crypto projects, Shiba Inu also has its decentralized exchange named ShibaSwap. The decentralized exchange was launched in July 2021 and allowed users to carry out similar activities permitted on other decentralized trading platforms like Uniswap, dYdX, PancakeSwap, etc. The exchange utilizes three primary tokens: SHIB, bone ShibaSwap (BONE), and Doge Killer (LEASH).

The three main features users can conduct on the exchange include:

Dig: This feature allows users to partake in liquidity mining in a bid to earn BONE tokens as rewards. Users can vote on important governance decisions, including what upgrades will be launched.

Bury: Burying tokens is similar to staking in the cryptocurrency space. When you stake your SHIB, LEASH, or BONE on ShibaSwap, you can earn APY rewards in BONE.

Swap: Users are allowed to exchange one cryptocurrency for another.

It is worth noting that other features can be conducted on ShibaSwap, including to “Woof your returns,” an initiative similar to crypto farming, and to buy and sell non-fungible tokens (more on this later).

3. Non-Fungible Token Ecosystem

Shiba Inu now has a non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace. NFT is one of the hottest niches in the cryptocurrency industry at the moment, with billions of dollars being exchanged every month. Not planning to miss out on the major crypto trend, Shiba Inu has also launched its NFT marketplace, a platform that has become home to 10,000 unique Shiba Inu-generated NFTs known as SHIBOSHIS.

With Shiba Inu now offering NFTs, SHIBArmy can mint and trade various digital collectibles on the platform. Aside from ShibaSwap, interested traders can purchase their favorite SHIBOSHI on Ethereum-based OpenSea.

4. Upcoming Metaverse Project

This year, the Shiba Inu community was thrown into shock after the project’s team announced its metaverse project dubbed Shiberse. This initiative would give the SHIBArmy access to a digital world.

The announcement happens to be one of the continuous steps by Shiba Inu to increase its ecosystem. While there are tiny details about the initiative, the crypto project proceeded to unveil its metaverse land, a virtual real estate known as Shiba Lands, with LEASH holders tipped to become the first users to gain access to the digital property.

5. Shiba Inu Burning Program

The Shiba Inu community has embarked on a conscious effort to reduce the token’s total supply as much as they can. According to data on Coingecko, Shiba Inu has a total supply of 1 quadrillion. However, the community is rallying together to burn some SHIBs out of its total supply, and one of the ways to do this is by sending the cryptocurrency at intervals to an inferno wallet.

In 2020, the developers behind the Shiba Inu project gave Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin 50% of the total SHIB supply to ensure the cryptocurrency’s price stability.

Buterin proceeded to gift 50 trillion units of the token to the India COVID-19 relief fund and further sent 41% of the SHIBs he received as a gift to a dead wallet.

Steven Cooper, the founder of Big Entertainment, has also joined the SHIB burning party by raising funds through the sale of event tickets, etc., while using a portion of the company’s profit to buy and send Shiba Inu to a dead wallet.

At the time of writing, a total of 259 billion SHIBs have been burnt, with an additional 1 billion scheduled to go up in flames by next week.

Final Thoughts

Shiba Inu started as an experiment, and it has proven to have a series of use cases like other popular cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Ripple (XRP), and Cardano (ADA).

When the project eventually unveils all its plans for project this year, it is expected that the value of the SHIB will surge tremendously.
